Re: Prey X360 Demo.
I'm a little disappointed in the 360 port of prey as well, I don't mind the 30FPS at all but it just doesn't look nearly as good as Prey on PC on the lowest graphics settings, the gun models on 360 are dsitinctly low-res in comparison, it stutters (it lacks a general smoothness of motion), the redesigned main menu and loading screens are awful, multiprey doesn't work (if you don't get "connection lost" you get lag like nothing that came before it and it only allows 8-players)

Venom and other developpers should have taken a lesson from what rare did with PDZ, which also runs at 30FPS and doesn't stutter, the texture work is awesome and incredibly sharp even close-up, weapon models look crazy good, the multiplayer options are incredibly diverse the amount of customization is unrivalled on any console game and it has 32-player online multiplayer with 4-player splitscreen absolutely lag free, why is rare the only developper who succeeds in writing a decent and stable netcode for live?

8 players is the limit on the PC too, I heard that this is the case because much data has to be transferred because of the different gravity areas/portals and such. But saying it looks worse than PC on lowest graphics??

Are you paid to make this game look bad? Because, other than this or drugs, I can't find another explanation for this wrong claim of yours.

^ but in that case a gamepad is still too easy to use.

That virtuall crap that looks like a hockey-puck wins.

The human eye can indeed distinguish the difference between framerates higher than 24, even 60. The difference between watching a movie and playing a game, however, is the motion blur.

Motion blur 'fills in the blanks' between images, whilst on a computer screen the eye has no exposure between frames, giving games their jerky appearance when movies look fine at the same framerate.

Motion blur tech is coming along, and providing devs can keep their framerates constant games will start to move a whole lot better at lower framerates.

One reason why I have the better version of Prey LCE for the PC on preorder. I mean, I still respect the X360, but I only went with the Standard, because I just needed the PC version to get more attention due to this reason. The X360 version may steal the popularity, but the PC version will play better physically, let's just say it that way.

I'm not getting payed to make prey look bad I like prey a lot as a game, i've preordered it on 360 a while back and tried to get the LCE released in Europe, it just falls short on 360.

As for my claim that prey looks worse than on the pc's lowest settings is very true in some cases, some of the textures look very low-res (texture on the snipe gun bullets for instance), jen looks even worse on 360 than she did on PC, the weapon models are very low rezzy and lighting (compare the lighter on both platforms) on 360 looks worse than on my pc (P4 1.8GHZ, Geforce 6200, 1024mb RAM) running the PC demo on the lowest settings. As for the multiplayer you're quite wrong as PREY on PC allows 16-players instead of 8.

At least it's a far better port than Quake 4.

He's right about the 16 player limit on PC,as for 360 vs. PC graphics Ill have to get my Digital camera out and take some comparison shots.

Or get an HDTV with Component slots for the X360 and maybe a DVI slot or VGA slot for the PC. Make sure your HDTV has split-screen capabilities, then you can take and compare them side by side. IMHO, that's probably the way to do things...

My HDTV has splitscreen PIP but unfortunately it doesnt let you splitscreen two high def signals such as HDMI and a Component input.

But my PC monitor and HDTV are fairly close together in the same room so I should be able to do a fair comparison. Ive done this before comparing other games ,I just set my PC's options as close as possible to 360's (for example I run my 360 @ 720P so Ill set Prey's resolution to 1280x720 on PC).

Would you people just shut the hell up and appreciate what you have? A century ago we barely had machine guns, and now we have machine that can display a virtual world with other people who are interesting in their own ways even though they are not real, delving into the depths of virtual reality, and much of this technology is available for 400$. I came up with 600+$ just by asking for money for Christmas, and doing some work. And hell 20 some years ago you were controlling an Italian plumber, who you could only see the side of.
Prey looks awesome on the 360, and yes I'm sure it can look better on a high-end computer that costs 1,500+$. So if you really care that much about graphics than save up cash and get a better computer. Stop hassling other people after they've worked very hard and long to port a game. For a final note: NOBODY CARES IF YOU'RE DISSAPOINTED WITH SOMEONE!

Actually close to $1,000 if you build it yourself.

No, while I agree with you Prey is going to look as good as its going to get on the 360, I think that comment is pretty arogant, due to the fact that we didn't get as far as we have today just by "appreciating what we have".

Gives the game this cool sort of Movie-effect.

It just doesn't make sense in the Pc-version which normally
runs faster than 30fps...
