Max Payne 1 has stopped working
I seem to be in the same boat as some of the other users. My Max Payne game has been working fine for as long as I have owned it. (About 6 months or so).

Inexplicably, now when I hit play on the launcher, nothing happens. The CD Rom runs like it's going to start up, but I get nothing. I've tried so many different ways of starting the game up, from Autorun to the CD Rom icon, to Start-Run, to startup from a DOS window. Nothing has really changed on my computer. I've got Intel Pentium 4, 512MB of RAM, etc. etc.

The only thing I noticed was that right before I tried to start up the game, Windows had just finished running it's updates. Yes, I too have the SP2. But, even with that, I've had to "unblock" certain game programs so they'll work, and up to that point, never had a problem.

There just seems to be some conflict, or some process is being interrupted when I hit "Play" on the launcher. But, I've never had any error messages come up. I've downloaded the patch and uninstalled/reinstalled the game. But, still the same result.

The freaky thing is, ANOTHER one of my games is showing the same symptoms. There's no rhyme or reason for it. At this time, none of my other games are acting like this. It's just my Max Payne game and my Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. The other freaky thing is, the expansion games for MOH run fine.

Can anyone offer any advice as to what to do? I'm at wits end. What would cause a game to not start up? With MOH, there is a "server" that runs with all these DOS-like processess. But, that is missing when I hit play for MOH. I've tried manually opening the server, then opening the game (a lame try), but that hasn't worked either.

Help??
