3D Editor? When will it be true?
I know that today we have 3D editors for games such as Duke Nukem. But the fact is,we don't have 3d sprites. When you put on on the wall, yes it is 3d,but the ones you put in the sector.I hope that 3D-REALMS will make a complete 3D editor for may'be Duke Nukem Forever. It will be great to finally see a game with fully 3D sprites.

heh heh...
a sprite is a sprite, something 3D is not a sprite, so a 3D sprite is a pretty good oxymoron, am I right? anyway, a sprite is just a two dimensional image, but don't worry, DN4 will have 3D stuff...as for the editor, since they'll use the unreal engine, they'll use some form of UnrealEd. |

Re: 3D Editor? When will it be true?
I believe you are right. But in this case,we don't need sprites then.We just need to have sectors. The problem is like trying to make a 3D toilet. It is very complex to make the toilet actually 3D.Cause their are so many polygons and it gets very complex.I believe the game space would be from like 70MB to like 1000MB at least.

Also,it doesn't feel real when you are playing with 2D sprites. It just downright sucks.3D-REALMS programmers, look out, here I come, just wait a few years, till I get out of this darn high school,I'll unleash true 3D graphics and make 3D-REALMS the best gaming company as it already is.

Man, you'd better take your time to figure out how to display at least a 2d sprite via DX and then talk about what the programmers at 3d realms should do.

Re: 3D Editor? When will it be true?
Settle down, J.R., first off, a 3D toilet wouldn't take up tons of space, it would just be a few (maybe 50) points, connected by vertices, then some art in the art database placed on the polygons created by the vertice points. Also, BUILD isn't a 3D editor, it's a simulated 3D editor, if it were 3D you'd be dealing with polygons instead of sectors. Hey, here's the defenition of sprite, from the Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Fifth Edition (c) 1936
sprite,n. 1. A shade; ghost; also, an apparation. 2. An elf; fairy; goblin. So ha! You're wrong, Tavern! (yes, I'm just joking around, I'm not stupid enough to believe the defenitions of words from the 30's are still the same, but man, I gotta get a new dictionary sometime soon) [This message has been edited by StevenVI (edited 11-15-98).] |

Re: 3D Editor? When will it be true?
Like I care if it's a 2D or 3D sprite that I'm blowing up when I'm playing.
Why is a 3D sprite more realistic? You can make 2D sprites seen from different angles when you walk around it. Does a 3D sprite blow up better then? The toilet: Why do I even want to admire the great 3D toilet, I'm busy shooting alien bastards. Hey make a triangle and put a label 'toilet' on it, I don't care. So in short, my question is: do these things add anything to the game? |

If you want to know what the Duke Forever editor is like, go play with UnrealEd.
