Re: Duke Nukem Forever fanbase CHECK! Please report here if you still care about DNF!
Yes, I still really would like to see DNF released!

But I'm also sadden by this "last minute" development pause....that's really triggerng a "cliff hangar" feeling! :-(

Just hope George and Scott are able to get the game finished while it's still "hot" and "innovating"!

I just wanna say, the situation of 3DRealms reflect perfectly what the world is, how does it's ruled, publisher, distributors get over every companies, like in the food industry...

Can you understand why did you alway pay the same price for a game when it comes out ?? Wasn't that an arengment over the prices ? Can you sincerly leave in that world with blind eyes ? It's so big that no one seen it ? Really ?

Tell me that you knew it.

For me what take2 did was just blackmail. Then i'm gonna stop coz the only things that i would say now would be insults.

I've just pain in the heart...

Even if DNF doesn't get released, Duke 3D is still a pretty awesome game. It's just DNF except it has graphics which are about 10-15 years old. Game is still fun to play.

I play games for the fun parts in them or the storyline, not because they have eye popping graphics which are bleeding edge.

If it does get released, then that's great, but it's unclear at this point. Not really sure what's going to happen.

Actually with the hrp and polymer engine it's already starting to come close to dnf.
The idea behind duke nukem 3d is not the graphics.
Wolfensten 3d, doom, heretic, quake, death rally, raptor and super mario brothers or pacman or all the other classic games, we all play them for the ambient and music not for the graphics. The oldness is a huge part of that ambient and when remade with better graphics, they can actually lose part of their ambient if not done right. We all wanted to see a new duke nukem game, where duke nukem talks new one liners with the same old voice and we also wanted to see how a fps game with him would look like if done today.
Let's be honest, the thing that is killing us is the curiosity to see how it would look like today.
I personally feel that my curiosity has been at least 50% cured after seeing those screens and that gameplay trailer.
From there onward I think we can all imagine how that game would have played along. A new duke game wouldn't be a break through at all.
I am not implying a new duke game should be a breakthrough, but we all want a new duke nukem fps because we all think that duke nukem and his universe are some things that were not exploited enough. We can all feel that the duke universe can be detailed so much more and for some very awkward reason, it remained in a dark hole for all these years.
I think we all agree that all of those other duke games which are not fps games, were just some games that were lacking almost everything from the duke 3d ambient.
So if you don't agree with me on this, then I still state that this is how I think about it. A new duke nukem fps game is just something I wish to experience in order to compare what has become of a once perfectly tied together gaming experience which was flawless.

I'd be happy with DNF having 4 year old graphics. It's the story that I like and all the cool stuff in the game like playing pinball, pool, and such. I actually checked out Polymer today and if that was DNF, I would totally buy it.

Yeah I am still waiting for this and I come back and check for updates, even if my old account was deactivated because I didn't log in regularly, which is fair enough.

One "never thought it would happen" came to be.. which was the Guns N Roses album "Chinese Democracy" at the end of last year..

Come on.. this can happen too..

Because they could have recorded Chinese Democracy in 1983 and still release it in 2009 with just some minor post-production work. You can't create game in 1996 and release it in 2009 as a normal AAA title.

If it ever comes out you can bet your ass I will be getting it then and there. Maybe even 2 copies for prosperity

We have to wait and see how this case with take two handles I suppose. Who knows anymore if this game will ever come out, looks less and less likley that it will.

I care about Duke, but not 3DR. If I get to play DNF, I will be very happy.

I'd love to play DNF as a wholly owned T2 game that was completed by them, as 3DR has had their chance. Again. And again. And again.

If it's a result of 3DR winning the court case, I'd rather not play it. But I will. For sure.

I still have huge respect for the former 3DR employees, I mean, take a look at their photo album again. Relive all the fun they've been gone thrue involving their past releases. Unlike money-hungry companies like Take2, It appears that 3DR was bound by friendship and talents. Something that could've been an example to todays gaming industry. This and the good memories with Duke3D and the DOS era, makes me a true 3DR fan!

Yet I doubt the DS/PSP Duke trilogy games will sell very well without the 'backup' of a 'major release'. Just like Duke Nukem Advance wouldn't have done so well without the success of Duke Nukem 3D. The reactions on gameplay footage are more than alright though, so I suppose it'll all be ok!

I still have faith in the game. In the event that 3DR wins the case, DNF will no longer be in limbo. From there...personally, I don't know. I don't work in the game industry so I probably have no idea what I'm talking about, but if it's a lack of manpower 3DR suffers from, maybe they could team up with Id or something to finish it?

Re: Duke Nukem Forever fanbase CHECK! Please report here if you still care about DNF!
At this point, I'm not even sure. It's been about 13 years by now... I'm now 24, I'm not 12 anymore. I've pretty much doubled my own damn age, yet DNF is... still in development hell. In fact, it's actually completely on hold if I understand correctly (why does it feel like this has happened almost a half-dozen times in the past 12 or 13 years of development for this game?).

DNF is basically three, totally different games from completely different time periods (technology moves fast), spanning different game engines due to bad decisions and slow development, and it's unknown whether we'll even see A SINGLE ONE of them. Certainly not the original two or so versions... let alone the very latest. And yet, the very original trailer from around 2000 was the one I liked the most (with the strippers, UFOs, cowboy, truck chase, and the cool music). Sounds like I'm f***ed if I expect to play what I originally liked (and still am impressed about the most).

Duke Nukem, once an awesome character, is now looking pathetic, and in many ways... I really *don't* care any more. It's sad, because he was one of my favorite characters ever since DN3D was released. He still kind of is, but I've lost pretty much all faith in 3DR ever releasing a proper sequel by now.

Conclusion: Yes, I would still love to see a DNF. But unfortunately, by now I'm not anywhere near as anxious to see it. I don't even know what to expect; hell, it could just be another game not worth playing (all the development trouble would certainly make this a possibility--obviously someone can't handle a project, so who's to say the game will even be worth a penny?). I'm not expecting to see shit, honestly; I don't even expect it to be released. Hell, I don't even know why I'm here now (probably the beer I'm drinking, plus Duke nostalgia).

But the first I hear of it being released (which will likely be from friends or advertisements, since I've stopped following the game myself), I'll certainly look forward to playing it (though with much less anticipation than if it was released when it was supposed to... around six years ago or more). Of course, since my interest has waned, it's not on my "must try immediately" list, but after a while I might try it.

I'm extremely disappointed... yet it would be nice to play it... someday. But I'm not keeping my hopes up any longer. I'm getting f***ing sick of waiting.

Bottom line: I'm torn. I would love to play it, but at the same time, I don't expect to play a god damn thing.

Duke Advanced didnt sell well because of Duke3D. Duke 3D was released in 1996, and Duke Advanced was released in 2002. If any games really helped Duke Advanced sell well it was Duke Zero Hour (1999), Land of the Babes (2000) and Manhattan Project (2002). We had a large number of Duke related games coming out back then. Plus the Duke film was supposed to be coming out at the time.

The portable games however also have a fairly good hype trail behind them, plus people are hungry for Duke content, plus its a guarenteed series thats being produced.

The only hope we have right now of Duke ever making it back to the top is for Gearbox to get back into producing Duke Begins, or take up working on Duke Forever in a three-way deal between 3DR, Take 2 and themselves.

Duke3D was released in 1996 but it's still the game that started the 'hype' for third parties, I believe. Or in other words, without it's success games like Duke Advance, Zero Hour, and various ports hadn't seen the light of day.

That's why I'm a little concerned about the success of the Trilogy games, there hasn't been any new Duke game (other than the XBLive port) in the past few years and DNF is merely discussed in 'negative' news items on game websites. You'd have to be very optimistic to see a comfortable future for DNF after reading all that has been going on. Or on the other side, it could just make Duke a more recognizable character anyway and make the Trilogy a success.

And for Duke Begins, I won't concern myself with that unless there's gameplay proof!
