Installation problems
I am getting an error when the installshield is trying to load. Here are the details:
Error Code: -5003 : 0x5
Error Information:
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (1886)
PAPP:Max Payne 2
PVENDOR:Remedy Entertainment (http://www.maxpayne.com)
PGUID:EFE1AB94-5466-4B6E-BE31-FF4C115FD25D
$7.1.100.1248
@Windows XP (2600) IE 6.0.2600.0

I am running Windows XP and everything excedes the minimum requirements.

Now, I've searched for help but all the suggestions were unclear/not working. I've clear my windows/temp directory, made sure no background applications where running, updated my drivers, butnothing worked. Any help will be great!

Re: Installation problems
I'd install the availiable Windows updates before complaining something doesn't work, personally.

Re: Installation problems
Well, I got all the updates. It says the same thing. Except now the last line is:
@Windows XP Service Pack 1 (2600) IE 6.0.2800.1106

I even updated the sound card and nothing. This is making me frustrated....

Re: Installation problems
This is starting to get annoying....
I installed all the updates. I've updated all the drivers. The CD is not the problem, the CD-ROM is not the problem. I've even gone through every step of one of the posts that try to help with this problem.

Am I hosed?

Re: Installation problems
Hmm... Could be one of those things that still need patching. Just wait and don't return the game yet.

Re: Installation problems
Could be your video codec maybe....sometimes codec packs you d/l have codecs that completely screw up the PC, id recommend a re-format and keep your PC clean and stick to well known codecs.

Please refrain from spreading FUD. Thanks.

Abalone: what shows up in event viewer after the failed installation attempts?

Nothing appears in the event viewer.... The only error message I've seen was the one I've included.

What you mean FUD its true! if you get dodgy video codecs from places they screw up your PC and stop everything working properly EVEN GAMES! so dont have a go at me i know from experience that this is true.

Re: Installation problems
Well, the only video codex I have is DivX. And that is one of the most well known codexs, so I doubt that that is it.

Re: Installation problems
Yeah, ones like DivX, Indeo and Xvid are good ones but people get others for films that they have d/l and have no picture and they are very very dodgy.
Id say just reformat your HD and re-install if you cant get it working.

It'd be a pain in the ass, but I might have to do it....
Oh well. I'll just wait a bit to see if they release an updated version. But thanks for the help anyways!

Yes, if you are a moron and you install every bad codec pack you can find, problems can occur. I'm not sure what kind of an idiot would recommend formatting immediately, though.

Things to try beforehand would include clearing your temp files or doing a repair install of Windows..

Re: Installation problems
Repairs on windows are about as effective as pouring a can of coke inside your tower, and if youve got windows XP then i bet the coke option would actually work better and clearing your temp folder?? what the f#!k is that gonna acheive!! truth is re-formatting is the best way to go, just get all your programs on a disk and you wont lose anything.
I reformat mine at least every 3-4 months as the internet fills it with all sorts of crap that isnt good for it.
