3D Realms moving forward
Firstly wow what a lot of changes!
I'm interested to know what will happen with 3D Realms? Scott seems busy with his other projects (Radar) and George is likely burned out from 12 years on Duke Forever...so I wonder where to from here (I hope Scott and George still get on OK to work together...must have been a stressful time of late) My hope is enough revenue is generated from the Duke IP deal (the upfront cash and ongoing revenue share from titles) that deals can be struck with developers and publishers to enable new titles to flow under their banner with their guidance! My hopes are (these could be budget titels with fun gameplay without A+++ engine/graphics): Shadow Warrior II (I know its unlikely because of issues of racism etc but damn was a great game - Who wants some Wang!) Death Rally 3D (Original game was brilliant and addictive) Just my ideas.... |

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
hey,
nice post. i really hope we get news from 3dr soon. honestly, the fact that they no longer own the duke nukem IP made me really sad. but it's ok, now we finally get our beloved game. i'm still a big 3DR fan and i love every single game of them. it was my childhood. it would be great if they manage to generate a new IP. 3DRealms rocks!

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
True! After Duke Nukem, they were able to create Lo Wang and Shadow Warrior, while the game came with some stereotypical problems, as pointed above, I do believe it's a great game and it was a step forward Duke3D and the Build engine. And also Tommy from PREY, it was 3D Realms character after all, right?
Heck, they got the character from BioMenace, Shadow Warrior, Alien Carnage and much much more. All we have to do is wait and see what kind of deal was made with Gearbox, cause as far as I know, they could have transfered more ip's than just Duke's to GBX. If lots of money were made from this deal, I hope they use it wisely now. Say, transfer back the Earth No More project to 3D Realms and re-fund it so it can finally be completed, release it under the 3DR brand and hey.. there you have some new stuff from this company, people that's not in the loop will be surprised to see 3DR around and it will go along nicely. I truly love 3D Realms/Apogee, and I'll never stop being a big fan.

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
I can't help but feel sad and sentimental about duke forum. So many great threads opened and closed, so many brilliant posts written and though i was an observer, not an active member (heck, i've been reading this forum for 5 years before actually starting an account) part of me dissappeared with it, because all what is left are memories...memories of eternal awaiting, memories of the most die-hard fans on the planet, memories that will never be the same...as DNF is finally coming out!
As for the 3D Realms, i truly hope they'll continue to run massively, developing new great games , and be the same kick ass company they've always been. With Duke or without him they are one of my all-time favorite game-developer, and nothing can change that. 3D realms Forever! |

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
Yeah, 3D Realms/Apogee could still make something small, but revolutionary. I don't want anything big, but I know that Broussard is full of ideas and he could do something, he just needs to concentrate :]
This forum ment to me a lot, cause I was reading it everyday even when I was in school, trying to catch every news on 3D Realms, sad that someone wants us to move out, if you think better, no one carred about us, it was just a fan forum:/ Like allways there are no answers even for us, forum users. We don't know what will happen with anything and just wondering all the time

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
If they made a multiplayer FPS that had old school game elements that would be awesome.

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
It aint gonna be the same without the 3D Realms logo.At least they gonna let it in Forever cause 90% of the game was done from 3D Realms!!!!!!
And why 3D Realms cant at least become DUKE NUKEM PRODUCER just to see the logo on the newer games after forever?????Gearbox is gonna need a producer anyway!!!!Whats best than 3D Realms?????? Anyway the have many games that have been left witout a sequel.BEST START SHADOW WARRIOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
RoTT2 with the polish that modern games have would be incredible. You wouldn't even need to change the gameplay; just make new maps that look like real places (instead of the blocky mess that RoTT's maps are) and put RoTT-style traps in them.

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
I agree but, I've said it before, not without Tom Hall at least having some creative input. He was largely responsible for the unique feel of ROTT and if there's any hope of re-capturing some of that, it's gotta be with his help. (Just look at that terrible Keen game for the Game Boy.)

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
That would be so f***ing awesome, a full mind blowing sequel with HD graphics i would buy it in a second, Apogee did say they had a long list of ROTT announcements but as of yet there has only been the iPhone port.

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
Well, as much as I did like Shadow Warrior, it had a hard time against Daikatana, I felt. However, with today's technology, it shouldn't be too hard to reclaim its humor and still have a better advantage over other Asian-themed shooters. Right now, the only advantage the 1997 version had was that Lo Wang was funny with his one liners, the gameplay was better, and there was a lot more in the way of blowing things up.

I would be thrilled with ROTT2 or Shadow Warrior 2. But I don't think I could stomach to wait another 13 years

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
Im actually interested in what your up to these days? Joe
you moderated well over the years always trying to please the fans and find that last bit of trivia for us from all the old apogee stuff and as much as I love duke Nukem Joe was the face of duke (and the original voice) do you have anything to say about what you have been up to? |

(Hehehe, sorry, just had to jab at that name! Great screen name... LOL) "HA! I KILL me!" Alf I know what you mean though... every time I hear that Duke Nukem II opening score I think to myself "Here comes Joe S". When demonstrating the game to younger gamers I always tell the story of Joe being the first voice and how long he has (did) work at 3D Realms etc. Then explain how Duke 3D with it Duke Talk impacted the game world etc etc... so maybe Joe started it all with adding the voice to Duke II? Re: 3D Realms moving forward
What about the Duke XBLA stuff? Does 3D Realms make any money from those? Considering when Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project was released and the fact that the sale occurred nearly a year earlier makes me assume 3DR gets something?

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
They get the money from those games, I believe, since they still have a license to sell the older Duke games.

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
Damn what the hell are they doing. They surely made more than 50 millions for selling Duke Nukem to Gearbox.OK We gonna see Forever finaly, but is this the end for 3D Realms????
I love this company and i dont want to see its downfall like that!!!!!!! Now with the money and Duke out of their mind they can develop a sequel to one of those great games they have. Shadow Warrior 2 Prey 2 Rise Of The Triad 2 Why the dont do something serious and they only port Duke 3D to xbox Prey to Iphone or whatever it was. AGAIN I LOVE 3D REALMS ITS MY FAVOURITE COMPANY AND I HAVE THE BEST MEMORIES FROM 3D REALMS IN VIDEO GAMES. |

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
I read somewhere Earth No More got canned - I'm guessing due to funding because no one wanted the distribution and/or publishing rights.
Here it is -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_No_More In fact www.radargroup.com hasn't been updated in years. Who knows what Scott Miller is up to these days? George is busy playing poker with his royalty payments. Nah I'm sure they're both busy on new game projects :-) |

Re: 3D Realms moving forward
They really do need to update the Radar Group site to reflect ENM being put on hold and the Prey IP being sold. They are probably waiting on their first pure Radar project announcement. The Max Payne movie predates the existence of Radar Group so that kinda doesn't count.
