Alien Carnage doesn't work right on modern PCs so they don't sell it anymore.

It almost never worked. It was a good game if you could ever get it to run.

Well, look at this page. There's a paragraph about our discontinued games.

Alien Carnage (or Holloween Harry as it was origonally called) is a great game. Last time I checked, Tech support has a link to download two programs that make it work on windows 98. I think one was called MoSlo?

Just curious, was the game poorly programmed or something? I remember quite well that it was really buggy, and rarely ran even on computers at the time.

Care to define "buggy"? People throw that around without facts to back it up generally.

At the time it was new, I don't remember it having any more problems than anything else did.

Buggy as in it wasn't well coded. It would work on some computers but not most of them. I remember trying to get this game to work some computers at the time, very few of them could get it running, and when it did, the music and sound didn't work.

It's also the only legacy game that won't run on my win98/dos computer, which runs all the other old apogee games fine.

What about Mystic Towers then? They shared some of the same code.

Nope it wasn't programmed poorly. It's because of the software they used to program it.....PASCAL I think!

It was a damn fine game. I would buy it today for $20.

Just downloaded the shareware. Says it can't find the install file, but it's there. That's the file I'm running even.

Btw, the error message I get when trying to run Alien Carnage is,

Runtime error 200 at 00CF:0091

RTE 200 means you need to use MoSlo or something like that.

Yea, works now..... although barely. I never liked those slow down proggies, they never seem to work properly. Sound still doesn't work though, which is consistent with how I remember it many years ago.

[/QUOTE]

That, plus the zombies wouldn't stay killed, and when you killed them again, you wouldn't get coins. Other than that, I enjoyed the game. Unfortunately, I never got the registered version.

I'm going to keep all the disks I do have for the discontinued games in my safe!!!!

Well, I sure messed that up. I forgot to credit Avatar_58 for the quote. Also, I forgot how to make the quote appear in a box. Sorry...mentally challenged all day today.

Hmm, I always thought Alien Carnage was just Episode 3 of Halloween Harry. Well either way, you can fix the Runtime 200 problem by patching the affected .EXE files using a program like TPPatch.

Just run it on all the .EXE files, e.g. "tppatch harry.exe" and it'll fix the runtime 200 error - bearing in mind that with Halloween Harry and probably Alien Carnage there are more EXE files than you probably think - you'll need to run it on at least these files:

HARRY.EXE
HARRY0.-0
HARRY1.-0
HARRY2.-0
HARRY3.-0
HARRY4.-0
HARRY5.-0
HARRY8.-0
HARRY9.-0
HARRY10.-0
HARRY11.-0
HARRY13.-0
HARRY14.-0
HARRY15.-0
HARRY99.-0

And possibly also these files, if you have them:

HH-HELP.EXE
HH-HINT.EXE
STUDIO.EXE

Once you've done that, you should be able to run it without any problems. If in doubt, just "tppatch" every file in the directory, and it'll fix the ones that need it and ignore the rest.

After this you should be able to play it without any slowdown utilities, and if you use DOSBox, with full sound and music.

No, Alien Carnage is Halloween Harry with Episode 3 and Episode 1 swaped and I think maybe afew other changes.

Oh, well that explains it - I only ever saw the shareware version of Alien Carnage which would've just been Halloween Harry Ep3. Alien Carnage also compressed most of the game data, which Halloween Harry didn't.

Episodes are rearranged. Title changed. Price dropped at the time the change was made (I think). That was about it. The game play/levels/art is unchanged.
