Prey demo to be released on Jun 22, 2006

I think I speak for everyone when I say:



I am looking forward to the demo for Prey. Already I applaud you folks at HH and 3D Realms for releasing a pre-release demo, but releasing a large 5 level demo? Be careful guys, or you'll spoil us!

Damn good thing I've got F.E.A.R. to keep me occupied until the Prey demo comes out. And this demo will give me a chance to make the necessary tweaks and preperations for the full retail release. But as I said in a previous post, the servers are going to be *JAM PACKED* the second that demo is released, servers all over will crash! The prpohecy is upon us! Oh, all kneel and convert to the dogma of Bane and.....errr....sorry, I got carried away.

All in all, this is definatly good news and I look forward to get my hands on the demo.

Well, the shareware episode of Duke3D takes me a bit longer than an hour to play through.
Back in the days, shareware gave away about one third of the whole game; that won't be happening with Prey or any other high profile title again.

Awesome news but I'm a bit torn.

I'd love to see how the game runs on my system. I can play Doom 3 on Ultra settings at 1024x768 with the framerate pretty much locked at 60fps.

However, I don't want to spoil the game and am afraid playing the demo will give away some stuff I'd rather save until I purchase the main game.

I'd *presume* that since I can run Doom 3 that well, that it should be able to run PREY pretty well also.

Either way, I'm still excited.

BTW: Got the July PC Gamer in the mail today. I had already seen the advertisement for the PREY ad here but it was cool seeing it in print.

I kind of feel the same way, plus I will probably be upgrading after the demo comes out, but before the full game does. I think I'll download the demo and test the multiplayer, but hold off on the singleplayer so I can see it in higher res glory

im torn.. but ill try em both out, versions that is, that way i can diside if i want the 360, pc or both... Oh just to make shure.. will the graphics / sound be stripped like most demos, or will it have maximum Quality like the full version...

And ill definatly join the multiplayer server if 3dr makes one... Can't wait to play against Joe.. maybe some others from 3dr / hh will join too..

why you all say that demo will spoil the game? its not like the demo will start an hour before the end of the full game You just play the beginning with demo and when full game will come you contiune from where you left off. how is it spoiling the game? Tim even said that game saves that you did in demo will be compatible with full version.

and as george said if you are afraid that it will spoil something and you know that you will buy the game anyway then just skip the demo, its not mandatory to play it show the strenght of your willpower

We could have cut both shorter, but why do that? If someone doesn't like your demo, it's likely that they know that within 10-15 minutes. Doing a longer demo just feels like the right thing to do and goes back to our shareware roots of "try before you buy".

Well the demo is coming on June 22 and we still don't have a release date for the game. So that would be a yes.

So far all rumors point to PREY coming out in July. But officialy it's WID.

I'd assume if the demo is coming with THE first few levels plus the ability to use savesgames in the full version, it would indicate that the game is done at that time. The 'gold' announcement will probably come sometime before or during the demo release (just a guess here, only 3dr can say when)

Don't know whether to play the demo or not, as I'd like to get an idea of how it will run. On the other hand I want it to be as fresh as possible, and I don't need the demo to convince me to buy it. It was always on my `to buy' list.

It's really gonna be hard but I've decided to skip the demo. When I play "PREY" for the first time, I want it to be the full version of the game. It's just my preference.

Hmmm....I don't know Micki. I kinda like my Paladin Avatar alot.

Anyways, back on topic, even though the size of the demo hasn't been revealed, I have a feeling that it will be quite large. With 5 levels, and both Single Player and Multiprey (heh, sorry. I just *HAD* to say it!) support, I think the demo will be around 600 MBs big. Maybe more.

Thank god (and Jesus, Abraham, Moses, and Muhammed) I have gotten DSL this year! With bigger demos comming out, I would have been SOL with a meager 56K Modem.
