Duke 3d for Linux
This might've been discussed before but couldn't find too much about it - can Jonof's port of Duke3d be compiled and run on Linux systems? I've gotten the illucus port to work but would much prefer the pure awesomeness of the jonof port. Sorry if this has been discussed! thanks

Both JFDuke and EDuke32 will build and run under Linux. The sound patch might even apply to EDuke32 if you use patch -l (ignores whitespace).

I can develop and install my own projects but I can't install EDuke32
Hi.

I'm trying to compile&install EDuke32 and Mapster32 in GNU/Linux but I have not installed some packages and I can't find them . The only one I found and installed is the SDL (because I had installed some Tux games ). Is there a list of all packages needed and where to download them? And where should I install the data files (GRP, MAPs, CONs, etc.)?

I'm using latest Kubuntu and had some experience as developer, but not enough...

Just apt-get install whatever you're missing...

I think Jonof sites has some specs for compiling. It comes down to having requisites for requisites. If I wasn't running Linux on a 5 gig partition, I would have it compiled and run it on my Fedora.
You will need to put all the files into the same directory as the program files.

The problem is that the compiler said it can't find some header files but I don't know what package has that header and the object/library files it need.

Do you say that EDuke32 and JfDuke have exactly the same environment? Then I should try it.

Ok, I'll try it.

Thank you.

apt-get install apt-file
apt-file update
apt-file search somefile

For example:

[terminx@echelonvii ~]$ apt-file search /usr/include/SDL/SDL.h
libsdl1.2-dev: usr/include/SDL/SDL.h

Oh! I didn't know that it's possible to ask to 'apt' which package has the file.

Thanks.
