A curious question about the expansion packs.
No, this has nothing to do with how to run them. I want to make that clear right off the bat. This is just about the expansion packs in general. Since they're official, I don't think they belong under the "modifications" sub-forum. But if I'm wrong, by all means move this thread.

Anyway, I have a question out of general curiosity. Of the three main add-ons, Nuclear Winter, Life's a Beach, and Duke it out in D.C., I've noticed that the episodes always replace Shrapnel City. I'm wondering why this is.

Is it something technical? Is Shrapnel City just the easiest to replace? Is it because the Cycloid Emperor is the boss? If that's the case, why does NW still take up the third episode? Or is it the other way around? Because it's the third, the boss has to be the Cycloid Emperor or a heavily modified version of it? If so, why the third and not the second or the first? Or the fourth?

Really, this isn't an important question. I'm merely curious.

No answers yet... Hmm.
I only know that as a general rule the first episode is not replaced to isolate the add-on from working with the shareware versions... beyond that, I do not know.
I know I enjoy the WizardWorks add-ons. I know some are better than others, but I like them all for different reasons.

That makes sense.

It's generally to have an ANM cutscene at the end of the episode, and to have an episode longer than 6 levels (the max for Ep. 1).

Also, Nuclear Winter uses episode 2.
