ADVISORY:
I have discovered a very big bug concerning the newly made fall damage system placed in since 4.85 concerning Bubsy's gliding and using the Jetpack to save yourself from falls. It doesn't work in that version. It has been fixed now though and will be in a not-to-far off bugfix release, but there are other things I'm going over before I release the bugfix, so please be patient. ![]()

Using the jetpack and Bubsy's gliding ability to negate fall damage is fixed to actually work again. Now you can see the amount of damage you receive from a fall. AMOBEAACID and HOTLAVA damagefloors created. AMOEBAACID is a stronger(3-15 HP dmg per interval) FLOORSLIME that eats through boots faster as well as damages slightly more frequently then HURTRAIL and FLOORPLASMA. HOTLAVA is an even stronger(6-36 HP dmg per interval), more frequently damaging version of FLOORPLASMA that eats through boots even more often. The BOOTS actor can now have it's pickup value damaged and even be destroyed completely if it falls in or on a damagefloor or damagesector for too long. Also, when the BOOTS are destroyed, they fall into pieces. When a player or monster's own BOOTS item is completely depleted by a damagefloor, they will also break up into pieces to give a visual indication of their loss. When an inactive and living character in your group levels up, the level up message now actually says WHO leveled up as opposed to being nondescript about it. [an oversight I made in the old 4.88 -.-;]

Some bugfixes of various sizes were fixed, ranging from suffering falldamage if on a slope while in the menu, or having your jump counter set wrong by exiting the menu. Two MORE damagefloors, MEGALAVA and ULTRALAVA are added. I might release a map soon that has some of the experimental stuff I've been working on, including all these new damagefloors, so keep on the look out, but the level's not all that much in actual depth, just a medium sized room with a few oddball things. :P

For the last 7-8 days, I've been basically at work with a major 're-routing' job of all of the stats. A long time ago, I planned to extend the limit of all characters and actors maximum possible stats to a much higher number than 32767, which that number is the highest health and armor can be for a normal player using the default system[and it can't be extended in the source code appearantly for various reasons]. Realizing that the vars hold a much larger limit (2.14 billion on both the positive and negative side), I had planned on this re-routing for a long time... And let me tell you, it was sometimes pure Hell trying to work on this. Rerouting the player's armor and firstaid were simple as cake, but I knew the health value was going to be the tough one, and I knew it wouldn't be the easiest task in the world, but I really underestimated it, especially when it came to the non-player actors. Several times I had problems which looked like it would halt my efforts in their tracks, and I will be honest about this as well: there were times I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs and just strangle the life out of the game/EDuke32 for all the hassle I was getting, but I kept thinking ahead and pushed on, and finally I got it pretty much stable. So what does this mean exactly? All characters, NPCs and monsters can have their stats as high as 524288 now[SIXTEEN times the original limits], although their Current HP/AP/FirstAid can be brought up to 1048576 with Atomic Health and similar items now. I don't plan for these limits to be constantly reached by every actor in the game, but it was put that high for being safe about it, and not to mention, it allows various major future bosses to have full freedom in their stats again. Also, as an added extra, I had to redo the entire concept of how the invulnerability artifact's bio-aura feature works[the one that basically kills enemies like the Star in Mario via touching them]. It is a bit different now, and it won't destroy every piece of scenery anymore, nor will it kill certain actors/players depending on the actor using the aura. Enemies with the aura only kill players and NPCs, while players/characters and NPCs using them[yes NPCs can now pick up items that fall next to them :P] will only kill monsters that get close, and not each other and the player/characters. Also, since I was finally able to get rid of the crappy hitradius system for the bio-aura, I was finally able to correct a bug in another aspect of the Invulnerability that was around in the year's much earlier releases of NR, and was scrapped due to having no solution to it: the DEFLECTION feature. Yes, the deflection feature makes a return. For the new people to the mod, this means if someone shoots a invulnerability holder, their damage is sent back to them, ignoring their armor and defense. This works for players and monsters as well. Additionally, now when you or actors suffer damage, you'll see the percentage of damage[compared to your/the actor's Maximum HP/AP] they suffered, to help give a better idea of how badly you're getting chewed on[or other actors are getting chewed on. Some other smaller things are also featured in this version of NR: You no longer get EXP/RANK if a monster is killed by damage belonging to anything other than you[an enemy kills another enemy, an enemy is killed by a damagefloor = 0 EXP/RANK]. If an NPC or civilian is killed by anything but you, you lose much less RANK than you used to. Sometimes you just can't save everyone, and you shouldn't be so horribly penalized for it. :P Basically, even though I've gotten a lot of this stuff stable, it would be help if anyone who plays this could test it to make sure there aren't any major bugs I missed. I hope you enjoy this, even if it doesn't appear to have a huge amount of changes from before.

Actually, what I mean is that after I released 4.96[when I did the major rerouting of the HP/AP and stuff for the player and monsters to allow greater limits] I overlooked the fact that until a playtester mentioned of it that if you were 'crushed', the characters wouldn't switch, and you'd be stuck in an endless loop of 'crushes with no deaths'. No, a single crusher can still potentially spell doom to your entire group if it's a permanent crusher that doesn't rise back up[which is why I don't have the 1.5 second "Death-Switch Delay" protect from crushers, since it would be pointless for that form of crusher] or slow enough to crush a bunch of people. What I think happened with the door in the end of my Demo #2 was because of the sloped sectors on each side of the door were the real catalyst of that embarrassment. -_-;

Bugfix: Fixed damage-interaction with forcefields and cacti so they damage you again[since changing the HP/Health system unintentionally caused the player to not take damage from these things at first]. Change: Cacti/Forcefield damage is no longer a set 5 HP of damage, and is slightly random and also slightly affected by difficulty level. Change: Cacti/Forcefield damage is displayed the same as attack damage now. Change: Gibs are now spawned with the palette of their owners, this means blown up monsters will use the proper colored gibs now.

Real-Life(TM) has nothing to do with the delay either. :P I technically haven't stopped working on it yet(I haven't taken the work break from it yet, that's sometime next month), but the actual time of release is still pushed to 1/1/08 or later due to other reasons.

Non-game Update Approaching! Anyways, big red text aside, the website has been given a redesign. This has actually be considered for about a month now, and I also wanted to not seem so much like a die-hard DeeperThought fan for various reasons[because the old site design was based off his DNWMD design]. A lot of the text on the pages is from the old site right now, but that will change over time to some extent. Also, the screenshots from the old site aren't up on this new one just yet, however again, there will be some new shots eventually. I just don't want to spoil stuff in the upcoming 5.00 by taking screenshots now. :P I guess if you want to comment on the site design, go ahead, but I'm not expecting too many people will care enough to actually critique it.

Also inventory and stats are quite difficult to find and read. Rarely do I know what my status is. This all makes this mod looking a bit childlike and maybe it is why it is not so popular athogh is good and with even more potential. I don't know what you think but if you want to talk with me about this mod I would share my opinion with you with pleasure. I like this mod but if you want to make it something really hot I think you must work hard and modify some things. At least this is my opinion. These menus are not 100% finalized in appearance and will likely be changed in some ways in the future, but the Skills menu will allow you to for now toggle a couple of special skills specfic to certain characters[other skills for characters are coming in future versions], while the status menu is a lot more detailed look at a character's stats. It shouldn't be too long from now and 5.00 will finally be out, at least 2 more days guys. :P

Naferia's Reign: Invasion of the Dark Mistress 5.00 is finally ready for download!
Some things to inform you about: This version has 4 maps enclosed: !NR.map, which is a demonstration map which showcases and demonstrates many of the features and enhancements so far used in the game. Then there's the usual warp.map, warp_spe.map and warp_zoo.map, most of them upgraded from before with some new things. Secondly, there is a README inside of the 7z file now, which also has some instructions at the bottom for using and creating various NR effects and other notes of interest. Third, just in case no one reads the news article, you will now need to manually set options in the systems submenu when you get this or any future 5.x version for the first time, since the settings will now be saved to the duke3d.cfg file after setting them for the first time. However they will first start at 0(OFF) and some will need to be turned on, else you will see no displays on the screen of any kind, which is important since you can't use the default Duke3D HUD anymore. Fourth, Features: 1. you'll see ATM Machines that can be used[!NR.map has one near the start, but any unbroken ATM texture in any map will activate this when "used" if it's actually a wall texture(not a sprite or floor)] 2. Various interactive little things [PLUG/wallsockets, acid-bloodpools, Atomic-Lightning Bolts] are coded to display any damage done to you in your player damage display. 3. Emulated Damagefloor/sectors are available. What this means is that you can make a normal looking floor texture or underwater sector inflict a specific type of damage. Examples can including water that is electrified, super heated floors, disguised traps, or making underwater hazard pools more believable. You have to set the sector's hitag to the texture number to emulate, but do not set it to the original texture names/tiles from DN3D(there are remade ones to use for it). The README will explain how this works. 4. Thanks to James and Deeperthought, players in NR also make footstep sounds as they walk on various surfaces. However I took it one step further and coded all landbound legged creatures to be able to make their own footstep sounds as they walked around. Also, the character you use determines how light or heavy their footsteps sound, and the speed of the character determines their frequency. 5. Also, thanks to Deeperthought and DukePlus, you can code ladders into the game. The only difference in how to do it in NR is that the sprite it uses is changed to the big red "W" instead of the big red "L", and that each character climbs the ladders at their own speeds depending on the speed stat they have. 6. Also, thanks to Deeperthought and DukePlus, you can also mantle along ledges and indents in the wall. However, unlike in DukePlus, all characters except for Cybanis have a limited amount of time[Mantling-Strength] they can hold on to the edge before they fall off. They can also push themselves up like the DukePlus version, but it causes the mantling-strength to drain 50% faster. You will see a light-green/dark-green bar appear when a character mantles on an edge. The "MANT-STR" stat in the Status Submenu shows the seconds[or tics if Debug Mod is on] the character can mantle for. Mantle Bonuses[appears as a clenched fist] can be found however to increase this, as well as leveling can increase it. 7. It is also possible for characters to gain the ability to perform airjumps, however most characters[except the Mystery Lady] will not start with any and will have to get 20-40 levels to start gaining them. 8. The rest of the features and changes are highlighted in the green on the features page of the website if you want to find out all of them. The truth is, there's a lot of smaller things along with some big things, but I need to learn to keep a changelog of my alterations so I don't forget the littler things I add in the future.

Bleh, already a bugfix update. :\ 5.00a is now up on the site. The news update explains everything, but basically it was an oversight bug I made concerning a couple of the damagefloors, causing them to occasionally inflict way too much damage. I also added some other small things I forgot, like the DEALER in !NR.map sells the new bonus items now, and other such stuff, plus a surprise feature Jblade graciously donated to me you can check out in !NR.map as well[has to do with security cameras >.>]

I tryed your mod lord misfit but personally the anime part of it made me get rid of it because i can't friggin stand it. But the mod was a good idea.
DNWMD is probly the best mod for duke 3d i've ever played. |

1. Invulnerable Monsters are supposed to be able to kill both the player and NPCs[any character neutral or on the player's side] with their touch. Not a bug. In fact, it's possible for NPC/civilians to become invulnerable and kill monsters that get too close to them. :P 2. I have no clue. My computer has two 733mhtz processors, I have a 1GB of ram, and I don't remember my video's card's stats. My computer is several years old, but NR runs pretty decent on it anyways. 3. Will be changed next time. 4. Invulnerable monsters/etc will always be part of the mod. Sorry about that. I know they can be annoying, but it adds to the challenge. :P

The reason your characters can't kill NPCs is because they're more or less on your side or neutral, and also because it would suck if you killed them accidentally instead of either saving them, or opening the DEALER's shop menu. If you want to look at it from the character/actor/monsters' perspective, they can choose who their invulnerability bio-aura will and won't kill.
Yeah, that must be some lag if you lose 2 or more people to one monster, since when someone dies, it takes 1.5 seconds or so before the next character can take damage or die in most ways[including invulnerable monsters].

Fixes: LIZTROOPs no longer act like retards when seeking you out or fleeing from you. There was an oversight when I made the footstep-sound code for monsters that caused the LIZTROOPs to mess up in particular. Features: Atomic-Edition lightning bolts[NATURALLIGHTNING] will now damage and kill monsters and other NPCs in the game that are in or around their striking point. NEWBEASTs heal from lightning though, but otherwise, lightning can be made into a potent weapon against most enemies now. :P Monsters' footsteps will now play at different frequencies depending on their movement speed. This only applies to LIZTROOP, PIGCOP, LIZMAN, NEWBEAST and all four of the bosses. Changes: Any invulnerable entity standing on/in damagesectors now make the invulnerability sound when it attempts to deal damage, instead of being completely silent as before.

Anyways, I'm gonna make it clear to people again that I have no artistic talent, therefore I cannot make tiles/sprites/models for the characters myself. That is something I need help for, the same applies to voice actor[ess]s as well. And no, I'm not disabling View Mode because the mod is still in beta stages anyways. :P http://www.zxdware.net/NR/ - 5.01.01122008 released 1. Main features include restored support for taking damage from the alien power reactors like the ones in Episode 2. They hurt monsters that get too close to them now as well. 2. Lightning damage is multiplied on anything in the water around the striking point. 3. The new character introduced in 5.00 now has a toggle-able skill called Triad Blitzkrieg which, well if you look at it, you'll see for your self. 4. Various fixes, including that Stayput monsters no longer try to go for items outside their home sector, reducing AI hangups. 5. You no longer get confused or poisoned by mindblasts or spit loogies if they do little-to-no damage to your HP[they must do more than 5-10% in order to]. This means no more getting confused by an Octabrain even if you have perfect absorbant armor. 6. Assault Captains now shoot double lasers or the occasion double-pistol shot at you now.

So I thinks if your mod has a live-updater,(support resume-download if download failed...) it will be cool and more easy to get your mod. Or... Maybe you can reduce your update data size if just only updated some files on your every update. ![]()

Small Update: I added a "zip" version of the current version of the game so people complaining about 7z can download it without the "hassle of getting a program they will only use 'once'". >_> However to those people, note that my server isn't 100% mine and I share it. If my friend[who owns the server] asks me to take it down because of space issues in the future, I'm gonna have to find a different place for it.
