Hi all -- Welcome to the latest edition of the Prey Weekly update. Er, hasn't really been weekly for the past few weeks, though.

Things around here have been busy, but not nearly as busy as when we finished Prey. What have we been up to this past month?

Well, we've still been settling into our new offices; preparing the Prey patch and additional content; we had a fantastic Prey release party; many people have been taking vacations and sabbaticals (after you've been with Human Head for six years, you're granted an extra month off vacation. A lot of people are exercising that vacation now that Prey is done); and we're preparing for future projects (training, rethinking the design process, etc).

Question Pricing on Extra Content for 360
After reading the release about the new content, it suggests that

- There will be a price point for 360 content, it just hasn't been determined what that price is.
- No mention of the PC content costing anything

Are 360 users paying for the development of both the console and PC content?

I know this will rattle a few feathers, I was just hoping what I inferred from the release might get squashed now before we have a holy war on our hands.

Joe, does that mean the weapon switch speed will be more inline with the single player game?....Also, it sounds like the additions maybe a separate release from the patch...yes,no?....any chance player banning available in the patch,cause a kicked player can come right back which is alright if you're kicking a newbie for not pressing the "ready" button byt not so good when there is a truly disruptive player who won't take a hint

outch, for a game that has a really weak MP backup it's kinda funny that they want money for it. ah well, looks like Prey is not gonna make it then. Well, back to Q4

I don't know any more than what's in the update.

Hmm, if the model you control is different, will the first person perspective also be different..? Like, the hands of a Hunter alien surely doesn't look like a human hand... Also a Hunter doesn't have a human spirit either...

I've been gaming widescreen using custom height/width parameters in the configuration file. Will this make the widescreen option available in the menu or make sure the images aren't distorted?

We never said that was happening in a 1.1 patch. George said that would eventually happen, but never comitted to when.

If that's true then screw them. I don't mind to pay for an addon if it offers enough to be worth paying for or even a sequell. But I won't pay for some extra maps and game modes which should have been in the game from the beginning.
Well, I just hope there will be some custom maps of the mod com...havn't touch prey for over a week now. Don't let the honest people who bought the game get screwed like that

GASP! I just had a TERRIBLE thought! Maybe they're doing this on purpose to ENCOURAGE piracy for Prey and to ENCOURAGE people not to buy the patch. This way, they'll be able to say: "People pirated the hell out of our game and refused to buy the patch! Therefore, we MUST include compulsory online activation, automatic purchase of new content with the user's credit card and invasive CD copy protection in EACH AND EVERY of our projects!"

Yeah, not happening. I'm not paying for any 'booster pack' or patches. Sorry. Unless it is an offical expansion pack adding more SP and such like real exps then they might get my money.

Paying for extra content is ridiciulas imho.

Well, the tech patch is out there now for the 360. The "new content" $ issue is still up in the air, but it's not something WE are deciding, it's a 2K thing. However, don't forget that on the 360, the new content stuff for $ is not something that's never been done before, it's a pretty standard thing if you look around at a lot of games.

War appears to be pretty common nowadays, too. I hope that's not a reason that you go out there and shoot someone because he refused to buy the "patch".

Question Joe - Will the new content be backwards compatible? If some plays at a new map or with new characters can I play with them? If not then won't that destroy the amount of possible servers? Call me cheap but I'm not paying for small oblivion-like add-ons.

The mp is struggling as is;nobody'll pay for a mp addon that'll make it harder to find a server you are compatible with. I already paid for two copies so oi could play mp easier and right now, that extra copy looks like a waiste

no you can't, you must have th,e same content to join a server...I can't believe That a mp game that frequently has "0" ppl on all the U.S. servers, is considering" charging" us for giving it a much needed boost!!!!...that'll be it for me and I've been "out there, playing" as much as anyone

WoW, thats so cooooooooool, finaly a reason to step over to piracy.

Yes i bought the game, but if you guys are gonna charge us money for some extra content in MP just to make MP better (cause it sucks now) then im gonna get me some illegal extra content, you can be sure of that.

I love the game, liked the creators, but if you guys pull of something like this....(you do the math).

I really hope you guys listen to your gamers instead of the marketing. If you charge (even if its only 1$) you can be sure to lose a lot of fans including me

I'll also disconnect from the Internet before running Prey from now on. I'd hate it to "accidentally" stop working because of a problem that wasn't there the day before and can be "magically" solved by purchasing the patch.

lauwie0 - Don't blame 3DRealms, Joe already stated it was 2kgames call. Since 2kgames is the publisher of Oblivion I imagine its a major possibility. I'm not buying it so I guess thats it for MP for me unless others feel the same.

Exactly. Prey has already been "patched" (for free) on the 360 - see the other thread about this issue. The $ issue is relative to new/additional content, which is so NOT a unique situation, I'm surprised we're getting grief for it. It's a pretty standard thing on the 360. Still, I was told yesterday the situation has not been decided on one way or another ($).

this was where the possible fee was brought up and we are simply airing the potential consequences of a fee and how we feel about it and I imagine our disenchantment may get back to 2k games

That's why i put the word patch in ". Patch or mappack or whatevershoud come for free, especially for a game that has already an almost non existing online com. Common sense, don't you think? A game where only 3-6 active servers are want some doe so it might get what should have been there to beginn with. Games like BF2 and co have a hugh number of gamers so they can affort to do so, even if they shouldn't because it's a joke what you get for the 10 bucks.

I think you will see a very nice update to the multiplayer code that may change that. I cant say too much, but from coding and testing, I can say that even on a 250ms server you could still lead off correctly and kill just about anything even with the low ping guys. And there is always something to be said about netcode that allows you to run and snipe people with accuracy. More like the good old days of being a railmonger in Quake 3.

First off all I think when they go to sales of the extra content, 3drealms will be sure to get a part of it. I thought they always made stuff for the gamers and never under any circumstances where gonna be under the influance of the marketing. They even say so in there introduction if you want to get a job here.

Second, 3drealms and Human head are still the creators and im sure they will have a say in it.
