Question Is Lo Wang Chinese or Japanese?
I have been wondering this since I got SW.

Here is the evidence pointing towards Chinese (off the top of my head):
  • Fortune Cookies
  • "Ancient Chinese Secret!" - Lo Wang
and Japanese:
  • Pachinko Machines
  • "Just like Hiroshima…" - Lo Wang
  • "Just like Nagasaki…" - Lo Wang
Can anybody answer this for me?

"you wanna wash Wang, or you wanna watch Wang wash Wang?"

I think he is just your general Asian stereotype. no national or ethnic association.

It's chinese, he would be named Wang Lo... like his brother Hung Lo And no Japanese would say anything near "just like Hiroshima/Nagasaki" Nukes.

As Hudson said, he's a walking stereotype. Just like Duke Nukem. And that's the fun part of it.

By the way, is it true that asian players did not like Shadow Warrior because of its asian jokes?

^ I think that a "Wang Speak" option in the sound settings menu could solve most of those problems.

Didn't it say where he was from in the novels? It's been so long since I read them that I can't remember for sure.

Asianese? Right.

And I think it's fair to say that 3DR weren't really looking to give Lo Wang any realistic background.

Well, he's a walking stereotype. If theres any reason that the Asian community didn't like it, thats it.

It's only a GAME! Who cares the fuxking stereotype...
but some player on Asian (like some of Chinese or Japenese) maybe didn't like SW because it may messed up their culture or something.
I still don't care those things... because it's JUST A GAME...

Lo Wang should be a Chinese(China) name...

There's no word "Lo" in Chinese - the closest thing is "lou." "Wang" is, but... it doesn't sound anything like the slang word in English.

"Heng Lou" sounds like "hung low," btw.

In Chinese, names are words. Every word in a person's name has a literal meaning because it's a word from the Chinese language. There are only a few surnames that don't have any particular meaning, and even then, they're still homophonous with other Chinese words. I think that, as the Chinese major, I might just know what I'm talking about...

(Yes, names=/= words in English, but this is Chinese. Not English.)

If you used the keyword --- "Lo" on Google to search , you can find some Chinese used this word for "Lou"... but in fact, this isn't really a Chinese word...(Or other "pin-yin" method used.)

What is "Pinyin" : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinyin

I agree , Names =/= Words in English because
there are meaningful only in Chinese.
And always, nobody know a really Chinese name if you don't see or understand the name of Chinese character s.

(Like my real Chinese name [in "Han-yu pin-yin"] : "Teng-Wu Lin" , do you know what the words in Chinese? There are many words-combination for this name.)

uh... Sorry for my poor English, so maybe possible can't be understand...

林騰武? Haha, I have a 10% chance of being right on the Teng part.

Anyway, yeah, names in Chinese always come from words. Sun Zi (Tzu)? His name, directly translated, means grandson.

Haha, holy crap. Are you serious? I simply chose the nicest meanings of "Teng" and "Wu" and picked the only "Lin" surname I could find. Haha! I feel smarter than I have any right feeling now.

My Chinese name's 孫遜, by the way. Yeah, a bit unusual.
