I don't want a bashfest either, but you can't say he wouldn't deserve it. This article said it all. 3DR failed to make a single game in over 12 years thanks to a crazy behaviour of wanting to make a perfect game - noone can do that, there's no such thing. If 3DR failed to realize that they live in a dream world, and can not make the perfect product, then they are not mature enough to make business. It's sad to think that 3DR failed to make a "real" 3D game in the end.

But reading it makes me sad too...

thanks Wired Magazine! Yes I guess we are the most patient fans on earth and I'm proud to be part of it!

despite all this what happened there is this bright light at the end of the tunnel personated by Scott Miller that has something up his sleeves...

Stay tuned...Duke doesn't stay down long!

Fairly weak article if you ask me. It had almost zero sources. It will be interesting to see if the actual story of what happened ever comes out.

well it lacked some information that we already know thats true! But I see it more as a source for new information than a complete look on the history of DNF!

Yes George gets treated very harsh in this article! Although I get the feeling that it's true, I feel pitty for George!

Hey George if you read this, I respect and love your dedication for DNF although you had to let your team go in May. You were hitting milestones and it would have been done around end of 2009 it seems. You earned it to get it done with the help from Brian Hook and Isaac Tramell and the rest of you team. Well I hope you still will be active in the game industry, you famous talent as the industry's best "shit filter" shouldn't lie to waste. And if you decide to leave the industry, just remember of the good days!

I understand that, but they didn't even really quote those anonymous sources. The article also made it seem like the 2001 version of the game was near completion or at least on its way and we know that wasn't the case. It seems like this article is just a lot of speculation without much factual evidence to back it up. It seems as if they took all the theories and hearsay out of the forums and published it.

DNF in its current state is dead without question everyone knows it but most are in denial, leaving us with nothing again. I hope 3DR loses the rights so we may one day see the game.

Whats with the genius remarks regarding GB? He's not a genius, has a severe case of OCD and a fear of not being number 1. You never had to be number 1 to make a good game. Epic 13 year failure. Good job

I also find it typical that 3DR is trying to make TT the enemy in a failed attempt to make themselves the victim. Take Two did the right thing, as they see it: 3DR cant produce a damn thing and they want what?!?!?!? more money.... hmmmm I don't think so not without some kind of end/product in sight.

George B does not know how to manage a company and should of hired someone else. 20 million down the drain without producing anything is beyond acceptable, it shows tendencies of being a complete idiot.

He should of stuck with Quake 2 instead of trying to reboot the project over, and over, and over.

Frankly at this point, considering how long I been waiting for this game, George B you can go to hell sir. Get your shit together and finish the game, you owe us that much you son of a bitch. Duke Nukem would spit on your grave sir for what you have done.

that wasn't a game, it was just a montage of scenes. I don't think 3DR ever had a version of the game that was shippable within a reasonable time frame, save for this latest build.

I also hold the theory that not being accountable to a publisher for a deadline for development is what ultimately killed the game/company.

The part where George apparently said "we can go years without releasing anything" is horrifying *IF* true.

Irregardless of all this mess there's a few things.

1) It is amazing there is a very active fan base for this game to this day. Over 7,000 fans have already joined the Duke Nukem Facebook fan page. That's in just a few months time. Pretty damn impressive for a character that hasn't seen a new game release in years.

2) The game can absolutely be salvaged and released. It appears to have been very far along.

What I think is happening now is we have some massive egos ramming heads between 3dr/Take 2. They all need to get together in a freaking meeting room behind closed doors, apologize to each other for all the past bullshit and come to some type of agreement to get this resolved and save the game.

Yes, probably easier said then done but why not try?

I believe!(TM)

Yes, but this is exactly what massive egos will not do.

I'd love to believe, but 3DR used up all the faith credits I had in them. I simply won't believe anything they say or do anymore until I see the game on a store shelf. Even then, that DNF will not be the DNF I was waiting for. That game was killed off in '02 or '03.

That's a strange realisation and something that I expected a good while ago, but it wasn't until I saw footage of the 2006+ build that it really it home.

The Wired article articulates what most of us long-time followers suspected-- whether or not the pieces of the pie chart are in correct proportion, those three obstacles are the ones we've always cited in our speculation.

3dr simply missed their window of opportunity, where a small-but-talented dev team, with enough time and capital, could produce a AAA title. Now, the AAA titles are created by enormous teams at enormous cost.

Its a shame.

Everyone indeed wanting that version since that trailer alone gave off a true Duke nukem 3D sequel vibe. The newer one only looked like a Prey clone, George pretty much sealed the companies doom when he decided to not release that version of DNF.

The moral of the story is if you're waiting for everything to be perfect you will never get anything done. I'm grateful to Wired for writing this article and confirming what I have been saying for years, being this whole train wreck can be laid at GB's feet.

I can't say anything more negative about GB than has already been said. He knows what a huge cluster DNF has become but his arrogance won't let him admit it. Look how he has been pretty much shunning the media for the last 12 years, he does not want to answer for the mess he has made. He's like the Howard Hughes of video games. Notice how he is trying to blame TT now, like some kind of brat kid that gets caught being bad and then wants to focus the blame & attention elsewhere.
