Octabrain and protozoid slimer: I figured it out!

Okay, here are the clues that allowed me to come to the conclusion that I'm going to explain in this post:
1) whenever there are slimer eggs in Duke3D, octabrains are bound to be nearby (and usually, cocooned women are nearby too, while there is "alien slime" on floors, ceilings and walls)
2) in Episode 4, a sign shows that an octabrain's brain is just like a slimer
3) the octabrain action figure contains green slime in its brain
4) in the 2001 version of DNF, there were people with tentacles (octabrain tentacles?) coming out from them

These facts allowed me to understand the truth behind the slimer and the octabrain: THEY ARE ACTUALLY THE SAME SPECIES!!!

You read it right. Their reproductive cycle resembles the reproductive cycle of the xenomorphs in the Alien movie. The eggs (their resemblance to facehuggers' eggs is NOT a coincidence) open and the slimers come out. When a suitable host comes nearby, they slither up to his/her face, where they plant an octabrain embryo inside the host. Octabrains can prepare this phase by cocooning their host of choice in hard, green alien slime. The embryo grows inside the host, until it becomes a small, but fully formed octabrain. When ready, the octabrain shreds the host body from the inside (that is what is happening to this EDF soldier: http://www.planetduke.com/images/ima...mer1999/10.jpg ), giving the impression that people (hosts) "are turning into monsters"!

1) In Duke3D, the slimers killed you when they crawled on your face - The point of a host body is NOT to get it killed before whatever it's hosting is ready to come out

2) You don't know if those tentacles in the shot really come from Octabrains.

Well, the manual says that they suck your brain out of your nose. Maybe they MUST do that to replace your brain with an OCTABRAIN'S brain (which I remind you, looks just like a slimer)! And from that, the full octabrain grows!

Hey, maybe a slimer IS an octabrain's brain! After it sucks your brain out (effectively killing you) it settles itself in your cranium, so it can still use your body as a host (effectively zombifieing you) until the full octabrain comes out!

That's very interesting...
It's a very good theory, that fits well...

But, the tentacles bursting out of humans are long purple and have claws all over them, the Octabrain from DNF (sewer, and coming above) Had somehow the same style of colors as the Octabrains we know (light brownish + skin-like color) and the tentacle didn't have all these claws and were not as long...

I think it's nothing but a very big coincidence that it fits so well together...

What? Do you mean that in 1996, 3DRealms explained all of this?
I thought about it because it's something I'd like to see in DNF. I don't want DNF to be a "switch off your brain and shoot everything that moves" FPS. I want a real backstory, I want aliens that make actions for a reason and have a plausible lifecycle, and I believe that 3DRealms purposely inserted some clues in Duke3D to reveal all of this in DNF.

In 2006, yeah, back when I first played it (1998-ish) I felt the levels were incredibly detailed and that everything was photo-realistic

The only problem with this theory is that the NEWBEASTs are clearly modeled on the aliens from the Alien movie franchise. But that would mean that they should be what hatches from the infested humans, not Octabrains. Perhaps there are actually several different forms of the same species -- embryonic conditions determine which genes are turned on / off depending on the needs of the colony, with the result that sometimes the embryo develops into a alien, sometimes an Octabrain, etc.

None of us actually believe that this had been carefully thought about by the developers, right?

Anyways Sang, I think it was meant to add an "aliens rip off" or to just add some kind of mystery to the game. There are lots of unanswered bits to the duke universe which leads me to believe the actual alien race is larger than thought.

That makes sense, I have always noticed the octas hang around the eggs. I've heard a lot of theorys about the slimer. I've even heard that that is what the aliens turn women into (which would make sense, since the cocoon women are usually near the octas and slimers).

also, it might take the host's organs as they are needed. like the heart to pump blood and oxygen through it's system while it grows etc.
I assume that the octobrain is asexual, which makes it so much easier to kill. There is no worry about making a widow out of some poor octobrain girl.

Yeah but once it 'hatches' the host organs are gone - so then what?

You never know, advanced species may not need these functions.

In my opinion, no matter how advanced a species is, without these fundamental body functions they can't survive.


edit - Of course, the Octabrains look cool so it's not like I want them changed so they make more sense or anything
