Post Teenage Assesment
My little brother (aged sixteen) has a two-term assignment, specifically on 3DRealms & Apogee. It will be what he is graded on, and possibly what will pass/fail yr10 for him. Does anybody else know anyone in a similar situation, or have been in this situation themselves?

Personally, if I were still at school, this would have been my dream come true. An excuse for playing 3DRealms games when I should've been working.

Haha, yea... 3 years ago when I played games while everyone else was working on their science fair... My excuse was I was studying Artificial Intelligence... In the end I just programed a little game in 3 days and got 2nd place in the Science fair.

As much as I enjoy games, I don't think it's interesting to talk about them in any way in a professional or semi-professional (ie. school) setting. Gaming, for me, is something personal - I enjoy them and post about them on forums but I don't talk about them much IRL.

I can understand your stance here. Far better than you can realize.

Games however are seriously professional due to the extreme amount of money it costs to make them, and if you hit big, the amount of money you can take in.

However professional gaming, ie: gaming as a sport, is just retarded.

If people can compete in something, they will.. Not really retarded, just a part of human nature I guess.

Ive been writing an paper in science of religions at the university of Uppsala on religious symbols in computer games. It was in term 2 of my basic course in religious sciences in the part about religious psychology and sociology.

Well, I've read and have tried to learn swedish language, mandatory in Finland, for some 10 years now and still I don't get it. I understand most of it, but can't write proper swedish nor speak. I would have liked to study spanish, italian or russian - all more usefull for me

How is that any more stupid then regular sports?
Yea, like I want to waste a saturday afternoon sitting in a chair all day and watching people run and kick/hit/throw a ball back and forth for hours on end. The fact that people may money to see that, in my opinion, is retarded, and the fact that these guys get paid millions of dollars a season for basicaly just moving their limbs, is even MORE retarded.

No offense to any sports fans though, I just thought I'd point that out.

It's not about the viewers, it's the PARTICIPANTS. You're taking the wrong stance.

I happen to agree with him - "Pro video gaming" is really quite odd, I don't get it.

This is similar to what I what I was thinking... to some degree, or maybe in some cases, the participants are simply doing what they enjoy. Millions of people play all kinds of sports that don't get paid anything and they still do it. The fact that people will pay so much to see so many sports is the part I don't quite understand. I do what I enjoy often (like play Duke Nukem!) and NO ONE pays to see it, much less cares to hear about it... too bad cause I would be rich!
