Engine changing possibility?
Do you think it is possible that 3DRealms will change DNF engine to Unreal Engine 3? Or make their own?

Re: Engine changing possibility?
They already made their own Engine by rewriting 95% of the Unreal 2.5 Code.
![]() And why should they use UE3 if they have a better solution with their current one.

Re: Engine changing possibility?
I highly doubt it. They rewrote the engine they had all the way to its current state to their liking. So then, why would they switch to another engine that may not include features that they want?

Do you even know WHY they changed? Technoligy limitations and being understaffed are what caused the dev time to be this long, nothing else. With the rewritten 2.5 code they've basically been able to achieve what they've wanted to achieve, and I very much doubt they'd flush this much work down the drain. This is different then the previous two engines from what we've been told, and like RVD said, George has said they wont do another engine change.
![]() Even if they did, thats their decision and if its to the betterment of the game then so be it. Though honestly i'd think that would be nuts and pretty much make it crystal clear they dont understand one of the fundamental rules of art. Its never "completed" its only abandoned. You can never perfect something, you will always eventually find something you could improve or change, eventually you have to settle and move onto another piece. ![]()

Re: Engine changing possibility?
The trailer was graphically unimpressive by modern standards, which might make 3DRealms start again from scratch. After all, people do go for the graphics.
If not the engine change, the game might go through a model upgrade for the models in the teaser were quite low-poly and so were the environments. And concerning the history of Duke Nukem forever, I do not think that they will just change the engine. Most likely scratch and restart altogether. After all, it has been many months and no new teaser... Well, that is my 2 Cents :/ i hope I am wrong.

Not to worry, they're licensing the Cryengine as we speak.

Re: Engine changing possibility?
well, if you want all this good ideas from the forum in the game, i think you need vista 5, directx 35, and the unreal engine 10...perhaps...and over all the power of 50 9700 quad cores, about 30 gb ram dan 200 geforce 9800gtx cards...
if they realizes all wishes from the customers, the game would never been finished...so let the guys just do their job, and when its done take a look on it and decide everyone for himself if its a real good game, or even not. i felt it in my morning urinination...we all will get answers...this year :-) |
