Discontinued
I understand why Apogee doesn't discontinue games (like Wolf3D) and then make them freeware, but what I don't understand is why they haven't given out as freeware games like Arctic Adeventure, Pharoh's Tomb, Monuments of Mars, etc. I REALLY want those games. (Registered, not shereware.)

Re: Discontinued
I think they disconcontinued those games because they don't work on newer computers, so what's the point of giving it out as freeware anyway. Try searching for Arctic Adventure to get the shareware of most the discontinued games (I know you don't want it, but hey, why not?. Just remember they can't give technical support.

Re: Discontinued
I agree with Pycine. its just not feasible for me to buy Wolf3d and Artic Adventure. Thats why I guess i dont have the full versions. I really dont want them either..

Re: Discontinued
By plans for them, do you mean you'll make CGA graphics seem "cool" somehow, or do you mean you'll include Pharoh's Tomb for free in Pharoh's Tomb II?

Re: Discontinued
Because at some point we'll use them again. It's just not known when or in what format.
If it's been discontinued, but isn't released as freeware, we have some hazy "way in the future" use planned for them. ------------------ Joe Siegler 3D Realms Entertainment www.3drealms.com

Maybe. We don't know. The most likely use will be a compilation CD of some sort, but there's no concrete plans. There's only four games that we know we will never ever do anything with ever, and two of those we have released all liability of, and have nothing at all to do with anymore. The other two have already been released as freeware on our site here (Beyond the Titanic & Supernova). ------------------ Joe Siegler 3D Realms Entertainment www.3drealms.com

Re: Discontinued
The proposed future Classic Compilation CD ... is that likely to have the two Spear of Destiny mission packs that I just can't find anywhere? Or are the rights to those tied up by others - id, Forgen, etc. ??

I just can't find anywhere?

No, those aren't our games. We enver had anything to do with them. They are on the Wolfenstein 3D CD-ROM that id Software issued last year through Activision. It's got Wolf, Spear, both Spear addon packs, as well as the demos for Quake II & Hexen II on it. But we don't have anything to do with that, either. ------------------ Joe Siegler 3D Realms Entertainment www.3drealms.com

Re: Discontinued
The 2 add-on missions for Spear are hard to find? I never knew this, I bought Spear Mission 1-3 (2-3 are by FormGen I think) and a random level maker for $10 (new, unopened) at cyber exchange (go to http://www.cyberexchange.com), they might have another copy somewhere in the US, but their online catalog has been down since '97, so I doubt you'd have much luck there (but they might have a franchise listing on that site (they probably do). The 2 missions aren't that good, they didn't reprogram the end of it, so the story looks odd, and the art (they had to redo all of it for legal reasons or something) is very poor looking.

Re: Discontinued
Cyber Exchange is where I got Spear of Destiny and 2 of the 3 mission packs. I also got a ROTT add-on too from there. It's a greeat place. You really don't need an entire CD full of games, just go to a store like that and buy them really cheep. I got Catocombs Abyss 2 there. It's a great great place.
