Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
At this precise point, unless you speak German, your options for general news/content Max Payne fansites basically come down to
Deep Six and MPHQ. Most of youprobably already visit MPHQ on a daily basis but Deep Six however, isn't nearly as fortunate. A LOT of people still don't know we even exist and I just wanted to make sure they are aware we are doing a good job on the Max Payne 2 coverage. So why should bother to check us out?: - We've got a regularly updated Max Payne 2 FAQ that has evolved over the last 4 or 5 months so you could say it's pretty complete. - We have just set up a Max Payne 2 page on which you can view practically ALL the screens we have gotten to see and it's all updated regularly (even Jade's tuesday morning scans are there). - We are covering every single worthy news bit about Max Payne 2. It's a pretty fast-paced situation indeed but I am doing my best to keep up with it. There are already 5 different news posts for tuesday alone! - We are in the process of migrating to a new website whose design will surpass our current one by far. It's gonna be way more dynamic, user friendly and efficient for us to maintain. So what do you think? Give it a shot by pointing your browser to www.planetmaxpayne.com and we'll make it worthwhile. Just a public information service |

Yep, it's the only site I'm visiting. Luckily aavenr pops by the IRC channel when there's big news around though

Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
Luckily most of that stuff get posted here, oftentimes before anywhere else, so I won't have to read any MP2 newssites

Yup, Deep Six is a great Max site that's been around for a long time. Check it out if you haven't yet. And remember, if you are looking for mod hosting, you can't go wrong there either. aavenr, keep it up.

Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
Thanks Mixuk, KillJoy, Superbo3, Synti, biXen, Bow, Agent J, ADoomedMarine, J, and Straton for the support. We rarely even get people on our forums at all or receive emails with feedback about our work and therefore, when 9 out 9 guys have something good to say about D6 it is something truly special for us. I think I speak for the rest of the team (Maniac and White Rabbit) when I say this inspires us to go the extra mile and keep supporting the community, however hard that may be sometimes. And as for this:

make that ten. I love Deep Six...you have great content and no stupid POP UPS! A definite plus in my book when I don't have to close three or four windows everytime I click on a link.

Yah MPHQ is terrible with pop-up. Almost makes me not want to go there anymore.

Look I mean no MPHQ bashing here, I know the guys running the site and the are all a pretty bunch of cool people. I am just trying to further prove KillJoy's and Crashnet's point here. Here's what you get after a brief look on the comments section at Blues News and Firing Squad just after the word on the early screens got out: From Blue's News - "Wow, that site is evil. Not only did it give me 7 pop-up ads, but one of them installed a piece of spyware on my system. Blue, can you please give us a warning about sites like these in advance?" - "Someone else better start a website, if they are going to allow that kind of crap to ruin the experience. Advertising is fine, but it looks like they're pretty desperate over there." - "I went to the link and was assaulted by something like TEN popups. I kept shooting them down and more would come! Man, I get real sick of that kind of crap from some of these sight. Blue, I swear, I pray you never jump on that bandwagon. If so, I'm out." - "how many shitty popups can one site have! christ!!!" From Firingsquad - "Errmm.. holy $@@@, 6 pop ups and a 180s spyware certificate request." - "I wouldn't recommend anyone go to this POS site, even hitting back after loading an image spawns several pop ups. The 4 blurry images are not worth it" - "GAAAAAAAAAAAAAH THE POP-UPS" - "OMG those POPUPS r EVIL" - "omg...those pop ups are some of the worst I have had the deal with!" Don't you guys see a pattern there? [ 07-01-2003, 09:55 PM: Message edited by: aavenr ] |

Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
haha.. ahh well you gotta give them credit though, they don't have the backing of a big business though.
Doesn't matter I don't go there because of the advertising (I have pop-up blockers so I never even knew it had pop-ups), I don't go there because the design isn't what I call "eye-pleasing" and theres no need to go there if Deep Six is doing it all just as good So yeah don't give it up guys, you are definitely doing something right! |

Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
Yup, Deep Six is definitely my first port of call for Max Payne news (well, aside from here of course ). I can't count how many times I've seen an article pop up there, only for it to be replicated everywhere else the next morning.
But...you realise that poll on your site has been running for almost a year now? |

Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
just was at mphq...
got some sad news.... only three pop-ups when forst loading the MPHQ home page.... THEY WERE ALL THE SAME POP-UPS!!!!!!! Why must I be bombarded with the same popup three times in two seconds?!!! Do they not think I will see it the other two times? I was on the virge of commiting suicide for not knowing what the world had come to, but then I loaded up DeepSix and the suicidal feeling dissapeared. Deep Six saved my life, It can save you too! I am not bieng paid much for this endorsement. |

Thanks Baskinator, Maddieman, Maxey and Chimera for the support. Anyway, got some bad news. It seems we at Deep Six are experiencing some severe technical difficulties that have at the moment screwed up the whole main page and made it unreadable. We sincerely apologize for this uncovenience and I am trying to get ahold of the site's admin, White Rabbit, as we speak. Deep Six should be back in business by the end of the day. I promise as soon as this baby works again WE'LL BE BACK WITH A VENGEANCE. Reading a PC Powerplay issue as we speak and planning to post a snippet about it as well as 3 new graphic novel/sketches shots that are yet to be released. Just stick around guys. Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
Well actually it's like 2 plain vanilla sketches and the JUICIEST graphic novel released so far. How come? Well, let's just say it's pretty revealing about the new plot (in a good way, it's no that big of a spoiler but hints at what direction the plot will take).

Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
I am the webmaster over at Max Payne Headquarters.
Yes I understand about the popups. for some reason the ad network I belong to likes to bombard it's users with a bunch of popups that are exactly the same. I really have no explanation for it. There are however a couple solutions. If you just leave them open subsequent page openings will not open more popups but open the same popups in the same windows in the background a second suggestion is to use a web browser that blocks popups. i do! third, no website can install spyware without someone clicking "yes". a user that blindly clicks things deserves spyware in my opinion. Finally, I do understand that popups suck, but they pay the bills. MPHQ is not part of a big corporation. It's just me. |

Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
You know that MPHQ isn't all that bad. Its actually the only MP fansite that has a download database with almost every mod released. And MPHQ is also the one of the few site that has ofered hosting for MP moding crews.
and about the popups.. I rather go through a storm of popups than recieving spam letters from gamespy. Then about Deep Six: It's a great page aavenr, I use to stop by there often to check out your articels. Keep up the great work! |

i'm not getting any popups from MPHQ, both sites are good.

Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
i'm sorry to complain to much, but i generally visit site to site, compare all the news and such...
so i've got to side with gutbomb on this, a few pop-ups aren't so bad, Mphq does solid work... if you want pop ups.... try nfscars.net that site annoys the hell out of me, yet i still frequent that place to post my work. but i'm not knocking deepsix.... that's been in my favourites for along time.

Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
I agree with endo, FreDsom (aka R|pper) and Gut. MPHQ is a solid url. Like all sites it's got its highs (namely the mod database, the forums, hosted mods) and it's lows (pop up's not so regular news, not so regular articles). And again, it's being ran a very helpful bunch of guys.
The important point is that the community becomes a littel bit more diversified a this time around, it used to be EVERYTHING turned around MPHQ. I am very much looking forward to bix's Payne Reactor going live myself, a community landward on the old days. Thanks again to all who've expressed support for us guys. It's been a while since we last felt so much love |

UPDATE: Site's back on business guys. This morning's technical problems have now been taken care of. And to make up for that we've got a big snippet on the excellent PC Powerplay Max Payne 2 preview plus some more graphic novel and sketches shots. There's the latest on the Light Saber and Street Fighter mods plus some new stuff about the Max Payne movie.

Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
When the mod database has only 10 mods REALLY worth hosting it may not be worth it for 5 popups IMO. Besides, aren't they hosted in some other place, not directly on your servers?
Anyway, as of now there won't be banners, ads or anything at PayneReactor, the content is heavy enough. Deep Six is doing a great job with the news at the moment, I hope to back that up, but my focus is as it has always been on the content. Sharing my knowledge about Max Payne with readers. Focus will obviously also be kept on the mod stuff that is interesting. As aavenr says, I think the community will profit from it's richness this time around. I can't give any dates on Payne Reactor, I'm sick right now and will be for a while, but am slowly working on it, you'll hear about it. I'll say within July and be pretty certain... |
|
07-02-2003, 07:37 PM | #37 |
Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
Yes it's hosted elsewhere, due to the other customers using the same server. Anyway, nobody got the same collection. 90% of it may be shit, atleast we host it, and the day you find somthing good enough for you to download, you have to choises: MPHQ or file planet.. so what's best. Queuing in 3 hours, or face the horror of 3 popups.

Re: Max Payne 2 Coverage at Deep Six
aavenr, I have a week of vacation coming up in August... I plan on sitting down that week and cranking on the Katana level I had started for MaddieMan. I haven't touched the computer much in the past couple of months, and haven't done any editing in that entire time. Anyway, where I'm going with this is that I'll give you some exclusive screen shots sometime in August.
Then, when the summer is cooling down here, I hope my overtime at work will go down as well, and THEN I will finish the Katana level. Once that is done, I'm going to sit down and get my SDK ready for Evolution, along with some levels that are finished and some that are not. Then I'll give the whole package to you to release at Deep Six. |
