No more sidescrollers?
It saddens me to think that Apogee will no longer be doing side scrollers and that they won't call themselves Apogee anymore. Their side scrolling games are what got me hooked on Apogee games, and then 3d realms games, in the first place.
Sure, Joe said that the name/focus change was because the player doesn't know what kind of game they're getting when faced with the Apogee name....but that was part of what made them fun!! You never knew what you were going to get. What saddens me most is that now their rival Epic is the side scroller king with Jazz Jackrabbit 2! This game is GREAT!! unparalleled in sheer fun and addictiveness by most 3D GAMES!! I think Apogee should release one last side scroller, just to prove that they're still number 1! ![]() It could be a 4-player fighting game....in the same style as Super Smash Brothers on the N64 and would feature popular classic Apogee characters and locations. I'd love to see such a game. I'm tired of having to go online and put up with lag and crap like that!! I want a nice, fun party game for the PC, where me and 3 friends can just fire up the game and play. Who Agrees....please let me know. ![]() ------------------ Ajaxx ICQ#15069804

Re: No more sidescrollers?
The only reason that Apogee is not around is because everyone left and started a new gamming Buisness(I think thats spell wrong) or joined another. They couldn't afford making more games also they weren't making enough so they emerged with 3-D Realms so they can make more money. Some joined Ion Storm like Tom Hall and John Remero and the rest went somewhere else. So they can come back but why do that when they're making more money now then before.

Actually, they used to be with id software. Apogee published some of id's games, but Tom Hall and John Romero never worked directly for Apogee.

quote:
who agrees?

I doubt that would be good, especially considering that multi-player games on the computer a very hard to manage, because you'd either need a bunch of different input devices or be connected over the internet or a network, would it also be possible for only two people to play, because then the modem could be used. I don't have an N64 (I prefer quality games, like playstation stuff) so I wouldn't know exactly what the game's like, all I know is that it looked retarded to me when I saw a commercial.
Oh well, I won't go on and on with this, but I'll just say that a platform game would probably be a lot better than a fighting game... be a pacifist, enjoy peace while you have it, soon there'll be a war, and... oh, uh, violent games are bad, I thought that before everyone was talking about how bad Doom, Duke3D, and Quake were because of the violence... oh well, whatever, it probably wouldn't sell too well because it's not 3D, and, well, that all little kids buy these days, so... ------------------ Steve HARDCORE VIDEO GAMERS GET SCREWED IN THE END!! You're judging by looks alone. looks aren't everything y'know! And I never said that it HAD to be 4 player...it would just have support for that much! Why does everything have to be 3D now! I don't get it! I like 3d platformers, but all the good ones come out for the console and all the lame, Tomb Raider wannabee's come out on PC and I'm sick of it!! Well...at least the new Indiana Jones game and Max Payne look cool. ![]() If you played Smash Bros., you'd see that it's not all that violent at all. It's light and humourous and LOTS of fun. There are references to all kinds of old&new nintendo games here: Metroid, StarFox, Poke'mon, Mario, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Zelda, etc. And I thought it would be cool if Apogee did a game in this style....Y'know, as kind of a homage to their long time fans!! ------------------ Ajaxx ICQ#15069804

Pardon? That's not true. Apogee is 3D Realms is Pinball Wizards. They're all the same thing. No one "left" anything. It's just the name of the label we stuck on the game. Nothing more. ------------------ Joe Siegler 3D Realms Entertainment Click here for info on how to use this UBB --- "Selling skin, selling God, the numbers look the same on the credit card" -- Queensryche, Spreading the Disease

Re: No more sidescrollers?
I meant to tell you that, Soldier-X, Look's like Joe beat me to it.
![]() Anywayz, about the idea I mentioned, I think it would be a lot of fun. Imagine a fighting game where 4 players can pick characters like Cosmo Commander Keen Baron Baldric (Mystic Towers) Hocus Pocus Mylo Steamwitz (Crystal Caves) Endrick} Elandra}(Realms Of Chaos) Duke Nukem (of course) Snake Logan and other such characters from the classic Apogee games and beat the crap out of each other. part of what made me come up with this idea is that I just recently played Super Smash Bros. on N64 at my cousin's house and thought that a game this fun should be available to PC gamers as well. Part of what made this game fun was the familiarity of the characters featured. I can't think of any set of characters more familiar to PC gamers than APOGEE CHARACTERS!! So, who agrees?......please let me know! ------------------ Ajaxx ICQ#15069804

Hey! N64 is WAY better then PSX (From a tech. pov anyway. PSX = 32bit, N64 = 64bit, DC = 128bit.) N64 = Better graphix, good games. PSX = blockyish gfx, also good games. ------------------ Volte-Face [email protected] |

Re: No more sidescrollers?
Jazz 2 rules the sidescroller genre now, but from a marketing standpoint, it wasn't that big of a hit. Truth is out, the majority of people like 3d better... jerks ;-)
*advertisement* ![]() But hey, atleast there's still over 1500 levels, and 40,000 msg board posts at j2c keeping Jazz alive ![]() - DethMan |

Re: No more sidescrollers?
Aaahhhh.....It does me good to see so many supporters. I didn't expect this many.
![]() Back in the day, in my opinion, Apogee ruled the side-scroller arena. Who would even turn the corner of their eye to "Jill of the Jungle" when games like "Monster Bash" and "Bio Menace" were around? Which is why I think they should release one last side-scroller, to reclaim that crown. ![]() just look at what IGN said about Smash Bros. and I'm sure you'll agree that in this weary world, there's always room for side-scrollers.
quote:
Let's start off by saying that Super Smash Bros. is not really a fighting game. Yeah, we know. It says "fighting" in our categories box to the right -- and in a way, this HAL-developed beat 'em up bears all the signs of a traditional fighting game. But unlike the Tekkens or Mortal Kombats of this world, Smash Bros. does not rely on complex button combinations or a ton of moves to bring the game to life. To figure out what this game is all about, imagine a hybrid of Mario Bros. (the original, non-scrolling game) and Street Fighter. The outcome is a refreshing multiplayer battle game that won't fix the gaping hole in the N64 fighting game lineup, but delivers a ton of fun and heavy dose of nostalgia

pretty good, huh? IGN gave it an 8.5 out of 10. If Apogee did a similar with their characters for the PC, It can't help but be a hit. keep posting your comments. ![]() ------------------ Ajaxx ICQ#15069804
