I can't understand what anyone says in this mod, the voices are to quiet and explosions sounds over power the voices. So I couldnt work I why I would randomly keep dieing on this first level and my screen going all white and can't do anything. Till I herd him someone something about "reactor and 1 miniute." (was hard to make that out) Also, having to wait 5 mins at the start for the door to open is really stupid IMO.

I don't get what Zaxtor means with "arch-levels" : multiple-ending levels, maybe ? So, if you do a certain thing on E1L1 you'll go on E1L2 and, if not, on E1L8, for example ?

Arch levels are a name I gave for wickedly hard levels.


Benefit of passing them is getting boosters to make weap 5-8-10 insanely strong.

also something regenerate your ammo of 10th weap (slowly)

I try to add everything I can get to run. (Other than maps. There are already great map hosting sites.)

Some thoughts about Oblivion : in the past, I've played thru all the 4 episodes and now I've tried 4 maps of the 5th episode. My opinion is still the same : great ideas, great effects, but very bad gameplay.
I really love Billy Boy maps (and I've finished 'em all) and the old platform games from wich Zaxtor take inspiration, but all of this stuff is largely more player-friendly than Oblivion.
Let's take the "Alien Temple" map : cool idea (I love "bio" levels), awesome look, great texturing, but very messy gameplay. I mean : there's that tower that you've to climb with platform-jumping, an idea that would be a classic in any old 8/16-bit platform game but in Duke is a real pain in the ass. And the place where you begin is in the middle, so you've to reach the ground to solev some puzzles, and then climb the whole tower again ! No jetpacks, of course. Later, you find a larget network of "alien offices" with almost all the door locked and with all corridors FILLED with badass enemies. And your arsenal is : a pistol, a shotgun, a chaingun and some bombs. Result : you'll be annihilated no matter what you'll do.
This is really TOO BAD, 'cause this mod is crowded with great ideas and effects. I really suggest to Zaxtor to let some other people playtest his mod and THEN release it.

In that tower a passage appears so you don't have to reclimb all that tower.

When you press that switch near the front window.
A teleporter will appear way down to bring u back up.


PS

You're not obligated to play E5 to finish mod.

E5 is the ultimate levels / arch levels. Ultra hard levels.
Reason is to get an insane enhancer for ur weaps.
Some bosses die in one shot with these weaps.

I thought he mention that tower you must jump all the way back up in E5L3.

If there is a walkthrough would be cool...but...


Is it normal when you can't find the real exit on E5L2 then it send player back to a "restarted" E1L7?

I do cheats to get the real exit, then I get entering E5L3.
(For me, killing monsters not that hard, but puzzles is goddamn hard. )

If I go back the "teleportation door" which I found in somewhere and it send me to E1L7 --- a restarted E1L7 whatever you did before entering E5L2, it all restarted.

Yes is normal.

Maping system of E1 are mixed like example.
Cuz in older duke you can't make more than 5-6 maps.
Its an exploit

E1L1 (lv1)
E1L2 (lv2)
E1L7 (lv3)
E1L3 (lv4)
E1L4 (lv5)
E1L8 (lv6)
E1L5 (lv7)
E1L9 (lv8)
E1L6 (lv9)
E1L10 (Lv10 last level)
E1L11 (secret)


Now ur question.

If you play (starting from E5)

You will play E5L1, E5L2, E1L7 (lv2)
once ur at first rainforest after dry forest and finish it. You will abnormally endup in the base instead secret level or second part of the rainforest.
Which will alter some level length.
Like level 7 (E1L5) is short normally, but with altered way it will be soooooo freaken long and wickely hard if you walk instead of taking the stargate.

About E5L2
It has 2 ending.
one ending if you come from E4L? to reach E5L3.
second ending If you come from E1L? or start from E5.
Then you go to its alternate ending and it will bring you to the dryforest (E1L7).

PS neat var FX I did is if you try to re-take the portal for E5L2 from the forest it wont be there.

I play it with E1L1 -> E1L2 -> E1L7 then found secret exit -> E5L2.

Shit...What a messed up route...
I don't care it sent me back to E1L7(In fact, I prefer it sent me to E1L3... ), but why it is "restarted"... I was killed all monsters and get all secrets then go to E5L2.

Great! Now I must play whole E1L7 again...

(And thanks your "neat var FX" block that secret way to prevent player go to E5L2 again from E1L7... damn, I just need a ****ing WALKTHROUGH!!!! )

Another question : Is E5L1 a normally-accessible level ? or just a independent level?

It brings you back to E1L7 (dry forest)

E5L1 is a playable level.

You play it from finding secret somewhere in E4L?.

Or from episodes menu.

I doubt that, though they might (my personal speculation) delete files uploaded by owners of the hosted sites they're going to be removing soon.
