Don't take this the wrong way!
Did you D/L the patch for SW? There are 3 versions made. Duke3d vers. 1.3d Duke3d vers. 1.4/1.5 Shadow Warrior. |

Re: Shadow Warrior sound problems
There's a post from 3DRealms in the UBB Archive. Click here to read it.
If I'm not mistaken, you should be able to get the sound working without the patch. Once it's working, try going underwater. If the game crashes, you have the PCI sound bug, and should install the patch. |

Re: Shadow Warrior sound problems
The first thing I usually do is open a DOS window and type SET. This lists all the environment variables, including BLASTER. After that, I load the help file (DN3DHLP.EXE for Duke3D, I'm not sure of the name for Shadow Warrior, but I know that SW has a similar Help file) to find out what to enter for Sound setup. Most of BLASTER is self-explanatory, but I usually have to look up "T" to find out what type of SoundBlaster is being emulated. It's usually a SB Pro (new) or a SB 16 for most of the soundcards I've dealt with.
Someone here may be able to give you specific help if you post what soundcard you're using, what BLASTER is set for, whether or not Real-mode DOS drivers are available, etc. [This message has been edited by Scotty (edited 08-31-2000).] |

Re: Shadow Warrior sound problems
I just looked at the SWHELP.EXE file from the shareware version, and it said IRQ 10 may work, but that some users may run into problems.
If you're sure you've entered everything properly in SW Sound Setup (SB Pro 2.0, Address 220, IRQ 10, DMA 1, HDMA 5), and it doesn't work, you may have to go into Control Panel, open System, go to the Device Manager tab, and manually set the resources for the SoundBlaster emulation device so that it uses IRQ 5 or IRQ 7. The easiest way to do this is to uncheck "Use Automatic Settings", then look at the resources that the available Basic Configurations use, and pick one that uses IRQ 5 or IRQ 7 if either is available. Sometimes the only way to change resources is to choose a different Basic Configuration, but sometimes it's possible to change one resource. To do this, highlight the IRQ setting, and hit the Change Setting button. If you're allowed to change it, try selecting IRQ 5 or IRQ 7. To free up IRQs to do this, you may have to go into BIOS setup, and disable unused ports, such as COM 1, COM 2, and LPT 1. I don't know which ports are enabled on your system, or which ones are actually being used. It's very common for all of them to be enabled , even though few or none of them are being used. I'm not sure how many devices are using which resources on your system, what devices you actually need, or what problems you may run into if you try to manually assign resources. Tinker with this stuff at your own risk. (especially BIOS setup) ![]() [This message has been edited by Scotty (edited 09-01-2000).] |
