Very disappointed
Bought the game last night, installed it about 8:00 PM, and I've already completed the game in less than 8 hours.

Very, very disappointed.

Predictable, easy, and not all that exciting.

PREY is a much, much better game than Doom 3.

I enjoyed D3 a lot, and have played it more than five times. But PREY surpasses it in every aspect. Remember, just because a game is long doesn't make it great.

Short games can be very awesome, Max Payne 1 and 2, FEAR and PREY are all pretty short and very awesome to play.

I wouldn't say so. I loved both of them. Although, of the two, Prey is probably more accessable/re-playable, if only because it's shorter. Doom 3 requires much more time.

Prey isn't revolutionary which is why I was dissapointed...the graphics end is dated, the new features Prey had were done by the modding community awhile ago. It should have had something new atleast on the graphics/rendering side. The ONLY thing I have to give Prey props for is fixing and using vehicles.

Compared to waht current game?

Every idea has been done in some mod or previous game. There is little that's truly new and fresh. It's the overall package, and while I can see people dismissing all of Prey's unique items, I guess the game just isn't for everyone.

George is right. This game has something for all gamers, and if you can't see that, you're being too picky.

Hey, we can go far by saying who has done what first. Shadow warrior had portals where you could fire trough them. It's not like prey where you go back and forward, in SW there is a teleportation thing. But you can still fire trough them. Still, Shadow warrior is an old game.

If you don't want to give Prey credit for its other features, why do you give it credit for vehicles? It has also been done before, even more than the other features you don't think are impressive.

No, it is not. Doom 3 does a way better job at immersing you. Of course atmosphere is not everything, but the combat in Prey is less intense and the puzzles not worth mentioning.

That's funny. Wandering around through endless generic corridors in excessive darkness as a generic space marine who mysteriously can't carry a flashlight and a weapon at the same time, waiting for generic enemies to occasionally pop out of convenient hiding places is not my idea of "immersion".

Prey, on the other hand, did a fine job of immersing me in the atmosphere of an organic alien ship.

Talking about FEAR? Doom3's level design was nowhere as generic as FEAR's, and it's flashlight worked indefinitely, although you had to put it away to shoot.

I have to agree that Doom 3 was more immersive than Prey. It was a lot scarier and conveyed a more depressive mood. Prey was more fun though. But Prey didn't really make me feel like as was there in those corridors, clinging to my flashlight with sweating hands, listening to my own breath. For that it was too surreal.

It's only scary for the first few minutes, before you realize that the entire game is about having things pop out of convenient hiding places to attack the main character in the dark. Also, you think that a generic demon invasion is more depressing than (POSSIBLE SPOILERS for anyone who hasn't finished the demo or the full game) coming to the realization that humans are being used as food for aliens and seeing innocent kids and the main character's grandfather get brutally murdered? That is a joke, right?

ah, it was a matter of time that someone comes up with beeing disappointed by prey, 10% of every group are against everything, out of principle, if you try very hard you can hate everything; prey, D³, Fear, pizza, sushi, day, night . . .even your own mother *shrugs*

But hey thats ok, the majority loves prey, the only criticizm that´s present on prey doesn´t count for me, I gonna play it over and over and enjoy pizza and sushi every day and night

I thought Prey was alot better than Doom 3. I thought Doom 3 was ok. I was really looking forward to it, but it disappointed me. The gameplay got old fast. I played through it once and never touched it again. Prey held my interest though. Prey has more interesting things in the gameplay like puzzles and has a far better story than Doom 3. As for which game is immersive, I can't really say either one really made me feel I was there. Anyone who thinks Doom 3 was far better than Prey must really like their games generic and simple.

No, I mean it. And I tell you why: Doom3 took itself a lot more serious while Prey always has a tongue-in-cheek attitude going on. The Art Bell parts, as funny and enjoyable as they are, are enough to rip you out of the dark mood. And there are more things like that in Prey.

Come on, man. Spoiler:

It's like saying: which one is the scarier horror film: "The Shining" or "Scream"? At least for me the answer is obvious.

Re: Very disappointed
Like the starter of this thread, I too am disappointed. Not because of the graphics, but because lot of the socalled revolutions in the gameplay, never was there. The Spirit walk and Portals are just gimmicks. Especially the portals that are nothing more than doors. The wallwaking and gravityshifts are fun, but dont really add to the gameplay. They are also used in puzzles, but they are very easy and kind of generic. The guns are ordenary. Allthough they look alien, they dont act like they are.

So I'm disappointed because, it could have been a great game with all these great and innovative ideas. Shame these ideas never was realized to their fullest potential.

It would've been nice if Tommy gained a few more abilities as he progressed through the game. It irritated the snot out of me every time I got to the training ground levels (with Enisi) and all Tommy could do is wander around bleeting about "I've gotta get back to rescue Jen!" I could've strangled him on several occasions.

Also the levels were just way too linear and didn't have too much exploration/interactivity going for them. It just seemed like a whole series of rooms with one entrance and one exit, and the only interactive objects were the ones you were suppost to interact with. No wonder people are finishing it in 6 hours if you give us next to nothing to sidetrack us with.

Those are my disappointments. Love the game otherwise. Will the folk at HH be listening to our comments here for Prey 2? I hope so.

Re: Very disappointed
wow, what do you people want from a game? Seriously...this isnt an RPG, its an FPS, you blow shit up!

If you dont think this game rocks you should seriously stick to EA Sports games. No other game I've played has been as fun on Singleplayer AND multiplayer since HaloPC came out. Think about all the work that went into this game considering that all of these maps and levels have to be basically "Wrapped" into the inside of a box. The levels are truly 3 dimensional, there is no UP or DOWN but yet you are always on solid ground, shooting at things above you, or are they below you....whatever. There is some serious shit goin on with this game.

And if you think the graphics suck...get a better PC, or at least ditch your AGP 4x video card and step into a modern gaming rig.

Re: Very disappointed
Finished Prey. My conclusion :

Prey is way better then the boring Doom3. In Doom 3, after you get scared for the first 15 minutes, rest of the game is absolutely same, with absolute no other variation - you just keep on walking in absolute same looking dark corridors, and if you touch an armour vest or weapon box, some creature jumps at your back from some hidden wall. Absolute no other variation. Prey has much more variations, and the story is also bit more engaged the Doom 3 (or Quake 4).

The wall walking thing looks like a new game gimmick. Hats off to the programmers though for making wall wall walking possible in selected paths. I do think it needed huge hours of man efforts to modify the Doom 3 Engine to get it done, to code something in program that goes against the laws of Physics. But at the end, the end result looks like a gimmick. Definitely, all the programmers effort in coding that wall walking thing is wasted, as the feature is severely under utilized.

The Spirit Walk is definitely a gimmick. When all the routes in your front are broken, and you switch to spirit mode, you see there is a route. This is completely lame.

Also when you die, you go and shoot some souls and come back to life - this feature takes a lot of the fun away. Although this is new innovative thinking, surely it made me feel the game like I was playing Quake 3, just go and shoot like hell. I know nothing to worry about if I die. This new death concept thus takes the hiding and creeping factor away from the game.

The puzzles are ok. They are neither too tough or too easy, suitable for a FPS gamer.

But the two things that I disliked most in the game -
- Too short. I finished the game in 11 hours and 20 mins. That is my one days playing.
- Too few number of giant alien creatures. That's not fun.

Otherwise the game is ok, much better then Doom 3 or Quake 4, and with a decent good story line, is worth paying for. I however wished it had atleast 50 hours of game play !

Mind you the initial post was essentially yet another "OMG the game's too short!" post, and there seems to be a lot of them. I think the folks at HH get the picture by now. (though I'm slightly suprised by the lack of a "I want quality rather than quantity" post in here...)
