*Sign here* If u have Total Meltdown
*signs* I just recieved in mail today! The game blew me away! Sure u mighta hear some bad things bout this game, but If u don't mind a wee bit choppiness (which can be resolved in options), downgraded graphix, or the fact that the Damn Im Good difficulty is gone, this is one duke u won't want to miss! The remixed music originally from duke 3d is AMAZING! This is the best duke 3d port I have ever played, sure it doesn't have easy multiplayer like duke 64 (u need two tv's two ps1's an link cable ) But there is too much good in this to make up for it! Who needs multiplayer anyway (don't get me wrong, it still kicks ass, but single play duke is good enough 4 me) I never played the Saturn Port of duke 3d, heard it has great graphix, but was alittle screwed up (secrets removed, controls etc) Plus the Plug N Pray Ps1 exclusive episode will have u head over heels! It blew me away (I litterly blew up) on lvl 1 (damn hard to see trip mines!!!). If u are looking for some duke 3d action with touched up music, elsewhere besides ur PC. I Highly suggest u get this game

When i saw it in the bargain bin for £6, i did my duty as a 3DRealms fan boy and bought it. It probably runs at 10-20 frames a second. The special episode is cool but i got stuck of the 3rd level.

Iv'e heard that the Duke64 for Nintendo64 is the best version of Duke3D for the consoles... Although, it didn't include any adult content, but the weapons were in 3D (i believe all of them was) and there was 1 new weapon... And the remake of Grabbag should also sound better if i remember right...

I guess, from what i've heard, Total Meltdown is only the next-best thing...

1 new weapon? lol no try 8. None of them are modeled (guessing thats what you mean by 3d?) and the grabbag remix sucks.

Anyways...
If I ever get a PS1 ill be sure to grab Total Meltdown.

Well, at least this weapon looks pretty '3Dish'...
http://www.gamespot.com/n64/action/d...ns.html?page=1

And the reviews on Gamespot, gave the PS version 4.8 (poor), while the N64 version got 7.3 (good)...

IGN.com, gave the PS version 7.0 while the N64 got 8.0... I guess everyone else find that the N64 version is better...

But you must be right about the weapons though, i remembered wrong, when i thought all were in 3D...

true. Although Total Meltdown is the most accurate translation (has all secrets, and the locations look exact to the pc version), the Sega Saturn version's frame rate and kick ass lighting make it king. It may be missing a lot of secrets, and some nice little effects from the pc version (swinging doors, ratating sectors, the subway cars in rabit transit, along with a list of others), but it's still fun. Another cool thing about it is that it looks filtered. It looks nice and crisp, unlike Total Meltdown which looks grainy, or Duke 64 which looks fuzzy. Total Meltdown is still worth a buy, but I usually end up playin it on the Saturn or pc instead.

Re: *Sign here* If u have Total Meltdown
Like I said I never played saturn version, but I think total meltdown is better than duke 64 here r pros. and cons for both

Total Meltdown
Pros.
- includes adult themes
- NEW duke one liners not seen in duke 3d
- Best duke nukem music in history (remixed from duke 3d!)
- All new Plug n Pray episode ONLY available in total meltdown
- Has more duke 3d control feel (atleast if u have it on the Doomed control style which is my fav)
-More similair to duke 3d
-Allows u to choose any of the episodes (including Plug n Pray)
-Has a Quicksave feature

Cons.
-worst frame rate than DN64
- worst graphics than even duke 3d
- Requires 2 Ps1's for multiplay
-NO co-op

Duke 64
Pros.
-Better graphics THAN even duke 3d
- All new grenade launcher and other new weapons not seen in duke 3d or total meltdown
- Some levels from the Atomic Edition (or so I've heard)
-Dukebots (up to 3)
-up to four players on dukematch on 1 console
-2 player co-op (on 1 console)
- has ammo for more powerful pistol and EXPLOSIVE shotgun shells!!
-Plenty of multiplayer levels
-Allows u to save between each level

Cons.
-No Music
- Edited, no strippers, some duke liners missing, and stupid duke liners added =(
-Some levels were tweeked
-Some weapons such as freeze thrower, Ripper (replaced by 2 weild machine guns), and Devastator missing, which really pissed me off
-Not allowed to choose any of the 3 episodes, U need to start at the beggining unless u have a saved game
- No additional 4th episode
- No quicksave feature

Take it from me, if u love duke, want some duke 3d feel, and more I totally reccomend Total Meltdown, just cuz the frame rate is lower DOES NOT make it bad ppl! It is fun and gameplay that matters most. The ONLY reason I could recomend DN64 over Total Meltdown is it's multiplayer, meaning in an FPS, u don't care bout the single play AT ALL, and u just like to play multiplayer, well first off, shame on u (lol jk), and second, ONLY THEN will DN64 probably be your choice, I just felt that too much was taken away and changed in dn64 it almost didn't feel like much of a duke game at all! So there ya have it.

I have total meltdown, but I've always hated it.

The plug and prey episode sux!! And even when the turn speed is set to high the framerate is tooooooooooo low. It's like I'm turing I;m turning. Uh OH! I have to turn back around now and I'm turning I'm turning.

I do agree that remix of the Midis into wave is excellent. The new one liners are a plus and the new pistol sound effect is better.

Doesn't the game run better on a PS2 ?
(I only have a PS1, and I don't own DN3D:total_meltdown yet)

I have the Saturn version, and it looks like all maps have been re-done for saturn (missing secret places).
But the nice framerate and lighting make the game really cool, it doesn't have a quicksave though.

I have a N64, but I don't have DN64. I thought I bought it, but that was DN:Zero Hour. That is also fun, but I think its a bit hard to play because of the controls.

Total Meltdown is barely enhanced on the PS2. I used "smooth texture mapping" (which smooths out most games), and the textures on the walls were barely smoothed out. The sprites were smoothed out pretty nice, but the explosions and water effects were not smoothed out at all. The frame rate was no different.

The Saturn version has missing things, differences, and a few glitches cause it's not the build engine. If you look up and down you will notice that the levels are rendered in 3D (just like in JFDuke or Eduke32 when using polymost). I forget the name of the engine, but it was mentioned in the credits.

Duke64 is worth playing cause of a few nice effects, and cause it's different, but all of the strippers are gone. Some of the edited things from Duke64 (like vitamin x instead of steroids) made it to Zero Hour.

Re: *Sign here* If u have Total Meltdown
You know I have it.

And the Saturn version is brutal, unless you put graphics above gameplay.

Oh, BTW, my review of Saturn Duke:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/satu...ew/R91010.html

I'll probably get around to reviewing the other two. At least in my FAQ.

Basically the PSX has the most stuff, but the worst graphics and framerate. More music, new ep, best control of the three if you use "Doomed" control style. I can't say enough how kick-ass this version is.

The Saturn is really great looking, but missing TONS of stuff. Barely any scripting, missing levels, slower gameplay, worse control than PSX and more. No ducking either, and music can be better.

The N64 version has extra stuff from Atomic. It has two of Atomic's levels as well, as well as new parts to existing levels.. It's missing the naughty bits, but adds more than enough to compensate. Different weapons, and alternate ammo types. Bad parts are missing parallaxed skies, no music, constant lookspring, and not really any control options. Has those wonderful mipmapped blurred N64 graphics.

And for the record, Plug N Pray FREAKING ROCKS. Play past the terrible Nightmare Zone and you'll see how great it is. Don't judge the extra ep on the first level.

I'm pretty sure I have every Duke Nukem game, besides the Gameboy Color version, which is pretty close to Duke Nukem 2.

I still say Duke 3D on saturn is the best. Same thing with Quake. I still have to get Powerslave (why was it retitled?). I got Duke 3D on Saturn when it came out (at $54!). When I first played the PS version, I was severely disappointed with the Saturn version for all the missing stuff, but in the end, it was crap compared to the Saturn one. It was chuggy and slow. It was watery looking due to low res, and the 64 one was fuzzy, again due to low res. If you want exact to the pc version, get the pc version. I also think the Saturn version had the best music of any version, although I did like the redone bar music in the Playstation version. Unfortunately, every copy of the PS version that I played were scratched to hell, even the one I bought.

Quake was great on pc (I think it's odd that my old pc will run GLQuake, but this won't... shitty intel graphics card!), and the Saturn one is really accurate. The graphics actually look a lot better (and not color blasted like the 64 version), even without being smoothed out by opengl. I got Quake for $2 at a local game store! Some kid brought it in (perfect condition, has box, but no booklet), and I said "Shit, I'll take it". The clerk figured he might as well sell it now, so it doesn't just sit collecting dust. I would've payed $10 for it, but I wasn't complaining!

MegaMustaine, I'd give you my copy of Total Meltdown if it was not scratched, and had the book and case.

Re: *Sign here* If u have Total Meltdown
How can you stand playing Saturn Duke, which runs at around 80% the speed of the other Duke games? Yes, it's fluid, yes, it's beautiful, but it's Duke 3D in slow motion. Play PSX Duke side by side with Saturn Duke. Put it this way, I finished E2M1, Spaceport at the time it finished the music. That's 4:19. The game time was 5:10. That means the game clock runs faster than even the PC version. And the Saturn version is slower than the PC.

Powerslave (Exhumed in Europe) on the Saturn, no matter what you hear, is behind the PSX version. The PSX levels are bigger, and runs just as fast and smooth. The Saturn version, however, has those cool light sourced projectiles, and Death Tank.

Quake on the Saturn was quite good from what I can tell. However, I have the European version, which stretches the screen, so can't see the status bar. Thus, it's quite unplayable for me. I think I prefer the controls on the N64 better though, even though the Vore enemy is missing on it.

I can "stand playing Saturn Duke" cause I don't give a shit that it isn't exactly like the pc version. The lighting effects make up for it. As far as speed, the slowest version is the PS version. The saturn one has a good speed, and frame rate. I think the saturn version is the best console port. If you don't, I don't care.

Hmmph... I must be playing different games, because the PSX version I have runs circles around the Saturn one. I wish I had a capture card so I could take two vids of just the first level to show people. And I have both North American versions. So it's not a PAL vs NTSC or something like that.

I play both on a normal basis. The Saturn is slower when I play it. The whole game runs slower, even explosions, your pistol firing and when enemies fall.

I do remember the PSX version of Duke3D to be VERY slow and also very limited when it came to Dukematch and co-op (some levels you couldn't even select even though they were on the menu!) I don't know anything about the staturn version. I really need to find it.

Wow, WTF? That's weird. Really, when I play the PSX version, it runs as fast if not faster than the PC version. In fact, I'm torn between which one I like blazing through the most.

There's just choppiness every once in a while. I'll look into getting a capture card, I need one anyways for a couple of speedruns I'm doing. I just don't know which one to get. I want to settle this whole Duke console debate once and for all.

I only played Duke PSX multiplayer a few times, over the link cable. And I found it excellent. Of course, it's been a while, but I had a really great time blasting my cousin.

If anyone wants me to try to take audio captures to prove my point I'd be willing to...
