Re: "Grabbag" fan remix contest
ah crap, didnt see this one earlier because i was busy making the website for my little gaming-music project (see other thread) or else i would have joined the competition. Would have voted for vertex-guy though anyways =)

edit: carbohydrom's version is really awesome too. Great guitar-playing there

Ahh... so we may have our 8 contesters as I mathematicaly estimated.
I also received a PM from a VGMIX artists (Florence natingale project) that only answered a few days ago...

Nevermind... that was fun and maybe in some years I'll plan a new contest.
I really like to organise funny fan contests...
Also I was really surprised to get Mr St John offer and a reduce price for an audio record, but as said all was already purchased and I couldn't pay for more prizes...
__________

Let's talk about prizes in details... while still collecting adresses (that may maybe speed up some )

So... based on current currency balance :

1st Prize : OBUT Balls of stells : 48$ (USD)
2nd Prize : KEM poker deck : 40$ (USD)
3rd Prize : MALABAR's bubblegums : 4$ (USD)
4th Prize : Stainless steal SHAKER : 32$ (USD)

Extra Prizes : Berlin wall ROCK : 6$ each (USD)

Include to this all the air freight and the average cost of the contest would be close to 200$.

Will inform you once all expeditions done (certainly during the weekend, when I'll have some free time).

Kind regards from Paris, France.
Benoit, webmaster of http://www.icemanpage.com

Damn... is there any way we can find out what the vote count was... because if Bob won by only a couple of votes... then I'm going to be pissed that i didn't see this thread sooner because I hated it.

I thought Either Vertexguy or Carbohydrom was the superior rendition. Yes vertex guys did have a lot of improv that did sound like it detracted from the original duke nukem theme, but did have ATTITUDE... and Carbos was decent with the changing moods and different key changes.

Well, basically I simply counted the votes... from the start of counting till the deadline...

There's only one way to change it :

(^_^)

Also note that "piss" and "hate" are in my opinion not really constructive.
I'm a graphic artist and for me any of the music creations that were part of the contest are for me masterpieces...

That's why while I was in Berlin I bought some piece of Berlin wall, then any contester will win something...

Well, as said up, only one way to change the contest, and unfortunaly Doc' Brown isn't in my MSN buddy list

So... I had a look of ETD, that'll take almost a month (excepts for the rocks and the KEM cards)... so be patient (^_^)

just wondering. are you the same Piano-man From the FL-Studio Forums that got banned like 6 times?
if so, you should remember me from collab. we have to get in contact to catch up on stuff that has happened since.

and also,
why did you "hate" my cover?
please be constructive, because a song like that takes alot of effort and hard work.

OK... OK... maybe hate was too strong a word... the reason i didn't like it as much as the others was mainly because I didn't feel it envisioned the true masculinity of Duke... you listen to the original grabbag and it's got ball bearing heavy metal, dark fierce crushing drum beats and a bass line thats just meaty.

Yours didn't have a lot of bass in it, which made it sound light and sort of lacked a little attitude... plus i hated the sort of crystal siren sound in the middle of it...

We want a masculine sound that will go rolling through the mind of Duke nukem as he sweats, shoots and obliterates alien scum....but hey - thats just my opinion...

I don't technically hate it... I just felt that Carbos and Vertexx's had a lot more meaty, bone grinding ATTITUDE...

And no... i'm not the guy from fl forums... (whatever the hell that is???)

"Uuuuhhhh, much better" comment (^_^)

Music is as colors, food... and so many other "artistic" or "gustative" tastes.
I don't think that this result is due to community, only to the fact that the average list of voters prefered Bob ones.

Still preparing expeditions, purchased some bubblepack for the shaker, and some carton to block it in it's package...

ok, i stated this before, but it seems people forgot. what was submitted wasnt a final version.
i have a bass in there, its just not equalized.

and as for what you thought was a siren, its my recreation of the synth from "jump" by van halen. its a perfict recreation (i can post an example if you dont believe me or are interested). i just put it in there, because it was very low on cpu usage, unlike my other Supersaw sounds.

I really liked this "soundwave" effect in your creation at 0:33"
-Twiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii (increase)- -ding- -ding- -ding-...

It's original and gives a "robot" technic feeling as in the Duke levels space centers.

My favorite part was that I especially appreciated the chorus organ effect at 0:10"-0:12" and 0:52"-0:55" to underline the theme...

I'm not a musician, and can hardly detail my feelings with some missing vocabulary but really can appreciate sounds.
I've headphones on my head whole day in the office and listened carefully all creations.

All packages done, and the small ones quitted France today.
I packed the big ones but didn't have yet time to post them because I've to fill few customs papers (new laws, new papers )

Whatever as the big ones are in prepaid packages, here is cost overview of the fan contest :
- Balls of steel : 29,99 Eur
- Poker cards : 25,00 Eur
- Bubblegums : 2,83 Eur
- Shaker : 20,00 Eur
- Berlin rock : 9,95 Eur
- International freight : 80,08 Eur

TOTAL : 165,85 Eur (259,00 $ USD).
(Last contest was 150 Eur, that's really close and helps me for possible future monthly events quotations).

I asked the post commercial how long it'd take, so... ETD status :
BobTheFish : Not yet sent (big one), count around 3 weeks
Carbohydrom : 1 week
Vertexguy : 2 weeks
Nukkus : Not yet sent (big one), count around 3 weeks
tGz : 2 weeks
Liquid : 3 weeks

Well,... contest is now terminated

__________

Additionnaly, I'd like to have your opinion, as Mr St John sent me an e-mail with a reduce price for an audio as beeing the first prize.
I think he rocks (of course) so as I've still one Berlin wall rock available, that would cost me nothing to post it with a kind note from the community...

What do you think about ?...

"Hey Iceman,
I received my package from you the other day. Thanks for the bubblegum...I was all out."

Get A note from BobTheFish...
Whoohoooo seems weekend starts good !!

Hey Bobby, the green ball is named the "goal" or the "piglet"
Didn't you see the video ?

Basically :
- You find some place (plain ground)
- You make a mark, that'd be shooting start
- You throw the green ball
- You throw the iron balls to get the closer you can

The other must "push" gently your ball, fall from the sky (pointing) or shoot violently from front (shooting).
Classic south France sentence is "Tu tires ou tu pointes" means "You shoot or you point".

Well contest will be running till Liquid confirms arrival... afterwhat I'll make an artwork to end the contest...
____

You wanna know the most funny... :
... tGz (one of our contesters) was in fact the MAGFEST manager

Yup, not kidding.

When I get his adress with MAGFEST I didn't know what it was (remember I'm in France) so I told him :

ice : - "well I can send it to your office but with your name this is easier for postman"
tGz answered : - "no needs that'll arrive to me for sure"
ice said : - "naaaa gimme a name that'll easier no ? Don't panic, I won't use it for commercial"...

In fact generaly people didn't want to give their names because they have fear of commercial or spam... at this time that was my mind.

Afterwhat a month after I made some research by seeing the word "MAGFEST" coming again and again on VGMIX, and saw that this was the biggest event in america.

Is this coincidence or pure luck... no idea, but that's funny (^_^)
