Here's a low quality interview on the old Prey. It explains portals and it's very neat. In 1996/97, this was jaw-droppingly cool! (And IMHO, some of it still is!)

<font color="orange"> Link removed, get K_Hectic's file instead. It's better quality.

I can't really go into the tech area, because I don't know shit.
I do know the difference between "common-game-portals" and the "Prey-portals".

Prey-portals have supposedly zero-density and can connect ifinte areas together (I geuss).
Also Prey-portals don't need fixed positions or have to be built in the map from the start. They can be created on-the-fly like with an item in your inventory on any spot.

Atleast this was back then, don't know what's up now

well.. thanks to you guys at 3drealms to make sure that this game is going to kick again!

just imagine, holding prey *and* dnf in our hands in the not too far future. it's not going to happen, anyway, but it would be the best thing ever.

Actually, it was because the development group was divided, and you needed to concentrate all your resources on DNF because it was taking longer than expected.

You are self funding DNF, and are running out of cash, and you need something to help bring in a profit.

It's not hard to figure out what's REALLY going on

Well thank god we have you around to tell us these things.

Human Heads involvement is an old thing - a rumor that was reported aaaages ago on Evil Avatar. Then it was dubious because EA is a tool and doesn't know what the *****. But now it has been confirmed, years later. So I daresay, Lengis, that this is not some furtive moneygrab, but something that they've been thinking of doing for a long long time.

If you don't believe me, look no further than George's words alone,

We had too few programmers early on.
Maybe because...... half of them were working on Prey? I think it makes sense to ax the project to consolidate your resources.

And honestly, do you think money grows on trees in Texas? Where is all this money comming from that allows them to fund DNF for 9 years? They already sold the rights to Max Payne, and they can only survive on console duke royalties for so long. I'm not saying they are milking a cash cow, but the true intentions seem pretty obvious.

Did Turok have any influence on this game at all?? I know the original was released in 1997...so it kinda fits the timeline

Wait, are you saying that 3D Realms is bent on making money by releasing interactive entertainment computer software?

What an insidious plot they have! THE GALL OF THEM!

I'm not protecting anyone, however I do believe that you are talking out your ass.

If they were only interested in making money, they would most likely have released a half-baked DNF by now (and also a half-baked Duke Nukem movie)

Lengis, keeping George honest since that time he misinterpreted what George was REALLY saying about sausages in buns, and it wasn't the kind of bun Lengis had in mind.
