I want to see Co-Op implimented into the engine so that even though the Single Player Campaign may not have it, at least it can be added to fan made custom made maps, if map makers so choose to do so, rather than having to create it from scratch like with Doom 3.

too many people LOVE building pcs, and everything about them...

ALSO- The TECHNOLOGY comes out faster then the developers can utilize it in gaming/software...with their product...

Its like the sli-video cards and the duo-core stuff....its all over kill!

STANDARD gaming machine, as of now = 2.0 ghz, 128mb card, 1gb ram....

NO GAME/SOFTWARE will MAKE you upgrade to a +6.0 ghz ,3 gbs ram, 512mb vid card minimum...for another 6 years at least!!!!

DIRECT X 10 wont be industry standard till 2009. [Dx9 dies]

Yet, people are waiting to upgrade/buy Dx10 cards as soon as they come out...

A while ago I remember someone at 3DR saying that the "un-announced project" would come out after DNF. But I will have to check up on that to see if that's true or not...

DNF - what is expected
Hey,I've been gaming for about 4 years and have never played the Duke Nukem game. I, sort of, have the impression that the gameplay in this series is similar to,"Enter a level...at some point, do something to trigger non stop killing for the next 10 minutes find the exit and repeat in the next level." Is this what is expected or will there be something more to this game?

yeah , you must enter level trigger stuff and then kill then go to the end.. but that's what we see in a lot of FPS except sometimes the triggers are given by the comm-link or similar.... it's still the same.. only different way of using it..

interactivity in duke nukem 3d is still kind of up-to-date in a way..
I mean even doom 3 and others have less interactivity than duke 3d(except the possibility to point and click on computer screens)..

so what is expected.. well a lot of interactivity, and easter eggs since for me it's what defines more duke nukem..

Just watch the 2001 trailer?
Imagine something like that, but expect it to be like 20x better, when it's done?

I wouldnt be so sure. I mean, we probably can expect something like that, but I dont think it would be just the "2001 gameplay only 20x times better". I would like to ask any of the 3DR members if they could share with us any DNF gaming moment which they considered to be interesting, so we could have an idea of what the game will probably look like. But I dont think we're getting the answer (again)

You can basically say that about every shooter ever made (save for hybrids like deus ex).

Duke Nukem 3D was the first shooter to do many things, and many things right. The interactivity and gameplay mechanics were far above the competition, even that so called "revolutionary" Quake game that failed to do anything but usher in the 3D card (beginning of tech over gameplay if you ask me).

If you haven't played Duke yet, then do so now.

Yeah, you can even use a pool table in D3D nothing else to add then the opinion that D3D just did everything right.

DNF will be a truly spectacular game with amazing graphics and fun gameplay, with great replay value and multiplayer to boot.

However, by the time it comes out, it will just be one of many such games.

Hopefully there will also be a few parodies like in DN3D.

Nah, PC games and gamers won't loose traction. I always felt that consoles are more geared towards mainstream use, and to be quite honest, the games made for the PC and consoles have a different mindset and have their place.

For example, the GT series and Forza - two of my favorite driving sims (Forza edging out more so) doesn't even have anything similar on the PC realm. There is a freeware driving sim which is more hardcore with realistic physics, but without any licensing from any car manufactuers, it's doomed to more mainstream players who like more identifiable cars and the feel to get in and get a handle of a car they will not own, but at least feel confident that it is a good approximate of what it is like on the track.

Also most good platformers are on consoles, too. Mario Bros, TMNT 2, Contra - all have the classic aura and more identifiable to the mass gamers than Commander Keen, Duke Nukem 1 & 2 (most thought Duke Nukem 3D was the first Duke game).

When I played Commander Keen and the old sidescroller Dukes, I wasn't totally impressed. They both had that wannabe vibe. No offense. These days, I'll gladly play them of course, knowing their origins, and being more on the PC side of gaming. Most gamers never heard of them.

As for what I'd like to see in DNF, my same tune has always been more Game Types. Despite Joe's opinion, DM and TDM is nearly dead. Most of the gamers who have experienced the multi-gaming types of Halo/Halo2 and the UT series have strayed away from classic DM. More game types mean more variety, also means more people will play. The Duke franchise had been overly popular during the 90s, despite being a PC-only IP for a while. Most of it was due to the mass media (they were complaing about how crude and violent games were - any publicity is good publicity, I guess).

Personally, I don't have a huge list.

Expect them to start over with a new engine next summer.

Partially kidding.

With how dated this will be, and the frenzy with which the FPS community dotes on graphics, I have some doubt that this will ever be released.

I hope more than anyone that I am wrong and will gladly eat 3 tons of crow should this game be released and be successful.

Re: DNF-what is expected
Why will it be dated? They started building (on the latest engine) assuming a couple of year were to go by before it came out. So their tech must have been way too heavy back in 2003, but perfect for release WID.

Yes and they have been updating it continually with stuff like new and updated shaders and changes to the renderer to the extent that that hasn't delayed it.

Re: DNF-what is expected
Like I said, no one wants me to be wrong more than me.

But, assuming they really bust chops and go from pre-alpha (with lots of content not done) to release by this time next year - the game will have been in production 5 years since last restart.

Could they tweak the engine lots and do nifty things? Surely.

But, to imagine this will be upper-tier graphics is asking a lot.

Personally, it won't matter a ton to me how uber the graphics are. But to the genre's short-attention-span fanbase it will matter a lot.

That's all I was saying.

I'm not casting any insults here. I admire that they are doing it their way.

Re: DNF-what is expected
Why wouldn't they have hight graphics? That is mostly depending on the amount of polygons they use for their object and characters.

As for new graphical features. A lot of them "slide in" without having any effect on the content of the game.
And since according to george the graphics department is ahead of schedule (as in, they are not in a hurry) they have the time to update things when needed as well.
So I expect DNF to have a compareble quality at least.

Personally I would prefer to have a good game then just a game. Just because it's a game with Duke in it, doesn't mean it can be average. On the contrary, it means it is supposed to be great and entertaining. At least, that is what 99% of the people are expecting. And that is what 3DR is trying to create.
