Awesome. There has never been a better time to be a comic book fan...also, we finally get to see the Mandarin!

Re: Iron Man 3
Indeed. I'm looking forward to seeing Ben Kingsley in this, the villains look better with each movie. Mandarin's accent was somewhat reminiscent of the terrorist leader (10 rings) who kidnaps Stark in the first movie. The trailer was great.

Re: Iron Man 3
As long as it's better and more focused then Iron-Man 2, I'll be happy. More in line with the first IM movie.

Re: Iron Man 3
Looks a lot darker than the previous films which I'm liking.
Still can't believe they got Ben Kingsley to play the Mandarin. This is going to be ace.

Re: Iron Man 3
I really like the scene where the Iron suit stands over Tony, whether it's just a dream, or something that happens for real in the movie, it looked like a very interesting concept. I haven't read the comics, so I can't tell what's the deal with it. But it intrigues me a lot. The whole trailer looked fantastic.

Re: Iron Man 3
This is the first Iron Man film I could really care less about seeing.
I loved the first one, but felt the second tried to do "too much" in an attempt to be more then the previous film. And it hurt it instead of helping it. And this one... looks... I don't know. Not bad, but... just seems like they are going in the same direction as the second film and not returning to what made the first film great.

Hulkbuster armour right at the very end.
Think I might go see this now but I must catch up on the second first. Some reports saying this will be Downey's last Iron Man film.

Saw it earlier today. It was an enjoyably engaging movie albeit with some question marks. Packed with a ton of action but quite a bit of it felt over the top. Ben Kingsley was interesting

Re: Iron Man 3
I really enjoyed the humour and the humanity the film and it's characters provided. It dragged on a bit but was overall enjoyable, albeit forgettable.
Also, I find it funny how the Avengers movie has more Iron Man in it (Stark in his suit, that is) than any of the stand-alone Iron Man movies each, the third being no exception. |

Re: Iron Man 3
Avengers was basically "Iron Man and Friends".
And, IMO, it's horribly overrated. It's okay, but it's nothing amazing. I'm interested in seeing Iron Man 3. But, IM2 left a "meh" feeling with me. I liked the first film's more focused direction. The second felt like it was trying way to hard to outdo the first film. And I've found I've had little interest in the third one. None of the trailers or anything have really made me think, "I really want to see this."

Re: Iron Man 3
Actually, by the look of the trailers I was worried this was going to be bad. But I saw it yesterday, 10 PM presentation and this films was the biggest fun I've had at the theatre for a while. I like it even more than Avengers and the first Ironman.
Compared to previous films, the showdown was miles better. Spoiler:

But is it as good as the first one?
I loved the first one. Found the second one... meh. And personally think The Avengers is one of the most overrated "action" films in a long time. It's okay, but it's pretty... meh.

It's up there with the first one. Doesn't quite surpass the first one's brilliance, but it definitely kept me engaged, excited and entertained on a similar level.

Re: Iron Man 3
I think the issue with anything after an origin story for Iron Man is his rogues gallery is terrible. There's no Joker, Penguin, Two Face, Bane, and so on, it's just a never ending list of god awful characters e.g. the mandarin is all magic etc... right? how the hell does that fit in with a film about a man that builds combat suits and mechs?

What's wrong with Magic vs Technology? One's traditional, one's modern. One's predictable, the other unpredictable.

Batman has always had the best villains, and perhaps by coincidence, he's my favorite superhero.
In Iron Man 3, very minor spoiler: Spoiler:

My problem with the later movies is that while the villains & third acts got better, the presentation of the "science" elements (which grew increasingly fanciful) was under-developed imo.

Re: Iron Man 3
Saw it.
Miles above and beyond the second film. The first one is still the best, but that's because it feels the most focused. It's not about Tony trying to improve something, or overcome something... it's about him becoming who he's meant to be. The second film, while okay, is a bit of a mess. Disjointed and crammed with characters that don't need to be there and just... meh moments. This one felt much more focused, had better pacing and MUCH better action sequences. And honestly, I don't have a problem with Iron Man's enemies. The majority of the Marvel comics have really weak baddies. But, if they are presented right in the films they could be awesome. Whiplash could've been great in Iron Man 2, but... it felt like they hardly paid any attention to him. Here, the Mandarin was awesome and I personally loved the twist with him. Killian I also thought was done really well. Personally, I enjoyed this much more then I enjoyed The Avengers. Honestly, I'm that odd one out that thinks The Avengers is horribly overrated. It's, okay... but it's not the amazing action film people say it is, IMO. If I had to rate the Marvel movies so far... (the ones that "count" in their series) Iron Man Iron Man 3 Thor Incredible Hulk The Avengers Iron Man 2 Captain America And even then, I loved The Amazing Spider Man more then most those movies.

Re: Iron Man 3
I'm not keen on magic superheros. I don't think I'm the only one either as characters like Dr Strange and Captain Marvel have bombed despite having had a huge push.

Re: Iron Man 3
Even if it's over the top and unrealistic, people are willing to accept a super hero brought on by science... then magic.

Re: Iron Man 3
Can't tell if you're being sarcy but I agree with the statement.
Even if the science isn't there (Hulk and the gamma rays etc...) they can retcon it later with a more 'realistic' origin story to keep the character relevant.

Re: Iron Man 3
No, I was being serious.
Even if the science is over the top and fanciful in it's own way, people are more likely to accept it because it is science. It's grounded in a sense of reality. Where as with magic we just have to accept it because... it's magic. It's part of the reason I have issue with The Avengers. They did a great job crafting a grounded, realistic Iron Man in the first film. Making it seem almost plausible. The second stretched it a bit too far at times... but tried to stay with the "real world, it's science" aspect. And then The Avengers comes in, takes this grounded Iron Man, and throws him in the same ring as alternate dimensional Gods with almost magical powers and aliens... and it just didn't mesh IMO. It would've been like if they had taken Nolan's Batman series, which had been built completely on the concept of a grounded, realistic(ish) world... and thrown in Solomon Grundy or Clayface. They would've stood out horribly.

Re: Iron Man 3
Audiences don't have a problem with magic when it's presented Arthur C Clarke-style as sufficiently advanced science. Or as spiritualism, in the case of Star Wars' The Force. Self-consistent magic systems with their own internal logic have put fantasy literature on bestseller lists for years.

Re: Iron Man 3
It clearly has it's audience when based in it's own world otherwise games like Zelda and WoW wouldn't be successful, but when you try to mix it with sci-fi it's a dead duck and completely off putting to me - could you imagine a sci-fi Zelda?
Regarding Star Wars, I never considered 'The force' concept (before Lucas ruined it in the second trilogy) magic. I saw it more as 'the one' type deal we saw in the Matrix where one (or a group) are thinking/acting or are physically on another level compared to the people around them. Plus, the Star Wars characters are all alien as well.

Hey, I liked He-Man. I know nothing of Final Fantasy, I tried playing a demo years ago and it wasn't my thing. A better example might be Warhammer 40,000.

Re: Iron Man 3
I doubt the rise of He-Man would have occurred had it not been for the bodybuilding craze of the 70's/80's. The guy was beyond shredded at a time when most comic book heroes still looked fairly normal.
Wasn't his magic power that he became ripped too? I want that power.
