1st person vs. 3rd person
For those who remember my topic about there being a 3rd person view or not in the DNF forum, what do you guys think of it in duke 3d? Do you like it more or do you stick with first person mode?

I stick to first person, since it is a fps.
I just don't find any use for 3rd person.

I like the 1'st person view better...
In 1'st person, you can also see the weapon you're holding, which isn't the case with 3'rd person, where everything looks like the same weapon... (Even pipebombs... )

I like them both equally, but I prefer 1st Person in D3D.

I'm pure FPS in Duke 3D myself. Once in a while, I'll switch to TPS if I only find it necessary. Sometimes even Overhead by the TAB key if I feel that there's nothing to do in FPS. I play all three ways on occasion, but FPS is still #1 for me.

First person is the only way to play DN3D... DN3PS is evil and sh*t.

Yeah I like 1st person all the way, but it would be cool if alot more fps games had this as a cheat option lol.

Re: 1st person vs. 3rd person
Doesn't this whole "First Person Shooter" seem like an overgeneralization of a genre?

I mean, if the entire game ends up looking like every other "Over the weapon" view (aka FPS)... then what's so special about simply being the "I" that rips through stages, the only difference being the backgrounds, the shapes of the 'other' characters, the sounds, the music, the pitter-patter sound that indicates how cool it is that the 'Shooter' is walking on different terrain?

A Duke Nukem game is much much more than just hearing a fantastical slew of Duke quips and one-liners! What's Duke doing in the First Person Mode? Sitting in front of a computer, commenting on the Player's cool jump-kicks and dodges? What else! Do people want to play as Duke in His world, or just sit inside his head and look through one of his eyes?

Please help me to understand why so many people seem to think that seeing Duke, and, yes, even controlling Duke is such a detestable and gut-tearing heartbreak?

I'd love to see an intelligent mix of many viewpoints!

So I have to leave that up to the 3DR production people, cause I can hardly even spell intelligence

Hrm.. The whole point of the First person view is to see through the eyes of the character you are playing.. Meaning that in a sense your making the choices as if that person was you. 3rd person would be more so like a movie, like your watching someone do it.. I prefer actually feeling the character moreso then just looking at it from the Diablo II aspect. Sure you may be controlling Duke still, but chances are you wont be as immersed in it as you would be if you were actually seeing it through his eyes.. If you look at a scary movie, and you watch as the actor is walking and you see something sneak up on her, that could be scary.. Now how much scarier do you think it would be to have a first person view like the actor and all of a sudden something grabs her around the mouth... To see the hand reach around in front of the screen would probably be scarier then to watch it in the 3rd person aspect.. Just my 2 cents

I like the overhead view, except that it's impossible to play using it because you can't see the enemies...

The 3rd person view doesn't work too good either, but i still like to switch to it sometimes for some variation. It's also good for testing maps, to make sure everything's the right size.
