Best ROTT website?
Hi,
Can anyone tell me of a good ROTT website that has up-to-date news? I have looked at the ROTT in Hell article and followed up 3DR's ROTT links. Anyone know what happened to the HOT ROTT SPOT site? I'm trying to find the latest info on who's creating new levels, engines, add-ons etc. Thanks, Tony |

Re: Best ROTT website?
There are hardly any ROTT sites at all, none of them been updated at all, the best place to start would be www.classicgaming.com/rott where you can read the most thorough article made on the game (ROTT in Hell).
The Hott ROTT spott (http://www.gibbed.com/rott/) is sort of active, altough it's supposed to be dead and buried. also try the ROTT webring (http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webri...fthetriad&list) for some others. I hope this helps, also, all the official and some other good user made levels are placed on 3dR's site. Re: Best ROTT website?
Speaking of which, Joe, you mind explaining me once and for all why does the screenshot in the ROTT page mostly taken from EROTT? isn't that a *bit* lying to the costumer?

There's not much going on ROTT wise. Wish there was, though.

Re: Best ROTT website?
Thanks Moonbuzz and all for those tips. I've read the ROTT in Hell article before and it is very good.
Generally there doesn't seem to be much happening on the ROTT scene at the moment, apart from in this forum. Oh well - thanks again, Tony |

At the time I took those shots, EROTT was still an item you could buy, and therefore it didn't matter. I simply have never taken new ones. I suppose I should. ------------------ Joe Siegler - Webmaster, 3D Realms --- Got a Duke Nukem Forever Question? GO READ THE FAQ BEFORE YOU POST ABOUT IT! Click here for info on how to use this UBB

Also, don't forget about this site. It used to be run by a few fans (one of which now works for 3DR). I put it online in order to keep it from dying completely - but I don't plan on updating it. ------------------ Joe Siegler - Webmaster, 3D Realms --- Got a Duke Nukem Forever Question? Re: Best ROTT website?
Hey Joe thanks for that link. I found one or two bits I hadn't seen before there.
Of course one way of generating a lot of interest in ROTT would be releasing the source code ![]() Cheers, Tony |

Pardon? v1.0 shareware was released on Dec 21, 1994. The date you refer to was just the 1.3 update. ------------------ Joe Siegler - Webmaster, 3D Realms --- Got a Duke Nukem Forever Question? GO READ THE FAQ BEFORE YOU POST ABOUT IT! Click here for info on how to use this UBB

Re: Best ROTT website?
I didn't realize this until now, but Rise of the Triad was released on August 18th, '95, and i celebrate my 17th birthday on August 19th this year. And Rott has always been my favorit game, second only to duke nukem 3d! Pretty interesting.

Re: Best ROTT website?
Unfortunately I seem to be running into this cynical 'it can never happen' attitude wherever I go.
![]() Over the last several months I've been working on various approaches to doing a ROTT2. (In my spare time). I've been evaluating all the options. I was going to write this all up but I'm getting generally discouraging feedback. The truth of the matter is that at the end of the day 3DR don't really want it to happen and that is a big negative. Here's what I've been looking at: * Begging 3DR to release the ROTT source. * Contacted 3DR regarding porting the ROTT source code to initially Windows, then Linux and Mac. * I have walked in Mark Dochtermann's footsteps converting the Wolf 3D code to protected mode. * I have written a VERY basic ROTT engine that will read an RTL/WAD file and display it. This was for proof of concept that a backwards compatible 'new' engine could easily be made. I am convinced it can. * I've evaluated various other open source engines as a suitable basis for ROTT2. I have very encouraging results. I'm not really prepared any more effort on it at this stage because, as I say there is too much of a negative attitude around anything to do with ROTT. I personally play ROTT more than Quake and Doom and probably about as much as Q3A so I would like it to happen but the will just isn't there. I think at long last we should finally accept that, sadly, ROTT is dead ![]() Tony |

Re: Best ROTT website?
Just a heads up. I'm currently looking into resurrecting my HOTT ROTT SPOTT once I get a hold of the Gibbed.com staff to get my password back. I tried to pass my site on to another that would have more time to maintain it, but that never appeared to work out, so I'm gonna try it again on my own. Any help would be appreciated as far as sending/posting ROTT files & such.

My Wolfenstein 3-D website, BJ's Hideout, also posts news for BUILD engine and ROTT news, when I see it. I'll admit, the well is very dry. And it's hard to get your bucket to pick up any water.
