I got this email from one of my co workers here at 3DR - does anyone here know anything about it?
------------------ Today I was shopping in the toy section at Wal-Mart, and I was looking at an electronic learning toy called the "Datamax", made by a company called Kidz Delight (http://www.kidzdelight.com) I was playing one of Datamax's vocabulary games, called "Letter Intruder." The object of the game is to shoot extra letters out of a jumble so as to form a word. When you succeed, you are treated to a little reward animation. Imagine my surprise when I saw the Dopefish grinning at me from the screen. It's the classic head on view of the fish, with the big buck teeth, the sorta sideways smirk/grin, one eye bigger than the other, everything. The only element that was missing were the fins, but the face itself was unmistakeable. It seems really strange that a mainstream toy company would steal Dopefish's image, but at the same time, the faces are so alike that it hardly seems like it could be coincidence. I mean, who the hell thinks that a bucktoothed smirk is a good reward for winning a vocabulary game, anyway? I checked their website, hoping to see a screenshot of the face, but there doesn't seem to be anything there. If you want to see it for yourself, you could do the same thing I did: play the "Letter Intruder" vocabulary game on the Datamax they have on display in the toy section at the Wal-Mart on the corner of I-30 and Broadway.
