New Prey Ad in Magazines
There's a cool new Prey advertisement now hitting magazines, and we thought we'd bring you a peek at it. This ad is currently running in the July 2006 edition of PC Gamer, but should be turning up elsewhere soon. There's some cool copy in the advertisement, here's some of it:
  • "Imagine a place where gravity isn't always down! it can be controlled, twisted, flipped, and even wrap around small planetoids. Imagine walking on walls and ceilings. Can you handle this new challenge?"
  • "Multiple gameplay innovations from the developer that brought you Bullet-time, including Deathwalk (dying is no longer annoying, it's fun) and Spirit Walk (leave your body to explore, ambush, and solve mind bending puzzles)."
  • "Portals change everything. Experience for the first time the reality bending effects of a portal world. Prey sets a new standard that will completely mess with your mind."
  • "Living Weapons, a faithful sidekick, vehicles, giant environments, jaw-dropping memorable moments, a story of redemption and destiny, and a 3-hour epic soundtrack by Jeremy Soule (Oblivion, Guild Wars). The FPS of the year is coming."

My ad in the new PCGamer says "RP" instead of "M."
Was it already rated now?

I have this add in PC Gamer too, and it is very cool. I'm sure it'll get more people interested in Prey.

Your ad doesn't have the Triton or Direct Song logos, either. This is a slightly newer revision.

My thoughts:

*Has more text to read than a typical ad (which may or may not be a good thing). I'm fine with it. Too much info is better than too little info when trying to introduce a new IP. The tilted paragraphs were very unpleasant to read on a computer monitor, though (which is why it's in a magazine, I guess ).

*"Multiple gameplay innovations from the developer that brought you Bullet-time." Seems a bit of a stretch. 3dr taking credit for features in two games they didn't directly develop.

*There are misused question marks (2!) in the paragraph that begins, "Imagine a place..."

I look forward to seeing it in PC Gamer.

One of the most inventive ads I've seen, looks pretty cool. Though mysteryperfecta raised some good questions.

Max Payne was still 3DR's game though. They worked with Remedy to create it.. they can take credit.

You're right, it may be technically correct, but it just seems like a bit of a thin connection to reference a feature from previous game/developer to pimp features from yet another entirely different game/developer.

I'd be interested to know if someone from 3dr actually came up with everyone of the features they're taking credit for. It's like 3dr came up with the Nike swoosh, and Remedy/HH are the orphans in the Malaysian sweatshop churning out the shoes.

It is not quite like that. But 3D Realms played an important role, AFAIK having Bullet-time depletable and earnable was GB's idea.

I have to *bump* this thread once again...

I just saw the AD in a recent free game magazine, and i felt all happy, seeing the old 3DR logo in one of my magazines again... Having the original AD is cool... I might use i as a poster, but, pehaps it's a little too small...

Meh, anyways, just wanted to mention this...

The magazine btw, is Called Gamereactor, a Scandinavian free game magazine (available in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark form what i know)

I saw it too in Computer Games magazine.
One read sent in a letter regarding the preview they showed. He said that a certain door (that looked alot like female genitialia) disturbed him. In a good way, of course.

Wait till you see it in the game. I got rather excited seeing the new animating 3DR logo on the 360 here at work.

I want to see that animation now...
It sounds like it's gonna be cool... I wonder how the 3DR logo will appear... I assume i'll find out with the demo...

Maybe it'll be like in one of the trailers, where the 3DR logo appeared as well..? (because that looked cool too)

PS
I just compared the AD in my magazine with the one in this thread... It's slightly different... The picture is the same, but the features arent'y listed there... Normally they are there though, english languaged AD's are constantly used in it...
