Well then maybe I should install the UDK and make the next UT game.

I say this because it is so far fetched and I have no experience with UDK at all just as it seems you don't either.
But at least I know that I wouldn't waste my time because it would fail. As Mikko said on D4N,

I still got 12+ years and several revisions before anyone can crap on me for not producing.

Ya well, started off with eduke32 but, just can't bring myself to work in 8bit mode, Unreal is great but a PIG, working with Blender and Unity3d now (sweet pair of programs).

Sued??? Who gonna sue me?? 3DR??? nahh, from the start this project is a 'gift' to 3DR. I won't release any part of the game (maybe screenshots/vid) no playable material. Once done 3DR can do what they want with it (release it, junk it, whatever). This way I dont get sued, they own the IP they can do what they want with it.

I sound like 3DR? prob because I have a very sarcastic sense of humor and a heavy dose of frustration over DNF (but hey we all have that).

Have some nice tools I found though.
Everyone here prob have visited Ken Silverman's page and tools.
Well..... He has a very nice dukemap to STL format (ascii) converter AND blender supports importing STL format files - SWEET - now I can import Duke3d maps into blender. Except the textures are lost in the process. Fine! I can deal with that, re-apply hi-res textures then save the blender file. Oh did I mention that Blender can export to Unreal?? and Unity3d??? and just about any of the big game engines??? drool!!!

You dont have to, considering Eduke32 has two completely different versions, one offering a near fully complete array of next-gen features.

They own the IP either way, and this "gift" will be completely ignored because its of no use to 3DR.

Is that a joke? EDuke32 is 32bit as well, or did you not know that?
In fact I am sure EDuke32 supports more image formats than Unreal.

Sounds really cool.....don't listen to the naysayers, I'm very eager to see what you come up with and I'm sure a lot of other people would be to.

In fact, it's extremely admirable to see someone taking the Duke IP into their own hands and actually getting something made for a change.

I definitely say "go for it", and wish you the best of luck.




PS: Try recruiting people to help you, I'm willing to bet a lot of people would be thrilled to be part of your project.

I don't know if many people would want to unless they saw that he could do what he was saying.

Even something basic as a layout or something.

Good thing I have always stated the finished game would be given to 3DR and T2. They can sell it and keep the $$$. This is just to get a new Duke FPS game out there.

You have no right to develop a game in the first place. 3D Realms cannot and will not accept what you give them.

He hasn't even done anything, first he said he was using the UDK, now he keeps changing engines more than 3DR does.

Also haven't seen a single picture or video for any development made.
In fact I probably have done 100% more than he has just by importing the E1L1 mesh into 3DS Max.

In other words, this project is fail even without the intervention of 3DR.
