What do you think of Rott, overall?
I have heard many opions, but let's put them out here.
(I already know what Aurora51 thinks, so don't bother. Hehehehe)

hehe, i just cant get into rot. I dont HATE the game. I'm just not into it. I liked the weapons, the death animations (no no, please dont shoot) and the taunting, but I just couldnt get into it. I was probly spoiled by Doom and Heretic.

I thought ROTT was an awesome game, and the fact that it was made by Apogee is the reasone why I'm a Duker, not a Quaker

The thing is, I lost my registered ROTT CD, and the copy on my hard drive was lost when I got a new one

I still play ROTT after 4 years. It's still a great game, just like Tie Fighter.

Sure, the engine is outdated, the graphics are not that good, but it's still fun, and will be highly enjoyable ten years on.

ROTT is cool. Period.

I think ROTT is one of the most fun 3d games. It's kind of like an old tile based puzzel game in 3d.

Yeah, it was rather refreshing to see Apogee make fun of how invincibility was called God Mode... and that Dog Mode stuff was just a hoot... I actually used cheat codes (egad!) just so I could play the whole game as a dog.

I think ROTT should ppl you can play a serious game, and have really really really REALLY goofy stuff in it. ROTT made gaming companies think "We gotta go back and work on our game a LOT more!" I don't think I'll ever see a game quite like ROTT again, even if there ever is a ROTT 2, it's just not the same without Tom Hall.

ROTT had many cool features, like the "dog mode" and the the green baseball-bat, but i never found it to be realy fun, you couldn't jump or crouch and i hate the way the weapon is on the center of the screen. And after you killed a guy you couldn't blow up the corpse!!

Rott is still one of the simplest and coolest games around. Great weapons, cool bad guys, mega-simple level creating, and still one of the greatest soundtracks in Gaming History (are you listening Lee? Soundtrack......)

And there's nothing funnier than an eye-ball rolling down you're screen.

BTW - I'm actually going to perform a 30-hour process on my computer that brings back even the oldest deleted/format files, include my old Rott maps. That should be quite fun.....

I love the weapons, I love the begging of the enemies, and I love both hands holding a gun, but I just couldn't get into the levels. They were so out there and they resembled absolutely nothing. At least in Doom and Quake you had some idea you were in some hellish underground dimension. But with ROTT nothing, nada, especially for a game apparently set on Earth. That sucked, I just couldn't get into it, and stopped playing after about three levels.

ROTT was OK - I found it lacked the humour of Duke Nukem/Shadow Warrior but that's just my opinion. It also got a bit too repetitive after a while.. [img]images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/img] Still the music was cool [img]images/icons/cool.gif[/img]

So? Something has to be something you recognize in order to be fun? Wolfenstein 3D was fun - when was the last time you ran into stuff like that?

The indoors levels were just fine. The outdoors levels did look like a bunch of blocks, but on the other hand were really superb design-wise.
I said it before, ROTT may not had the best engine out there, but it used whatever it had to the extreme.

I disagree - I still think ROTT is fun, and despite the opinions of some here, could still be a viable franchise.

However, it won't happen. I've always said if I won the lottery and came into a LOT of money, I'd start up my own company and license the rights to ROTT from Scott & George and revive it myself.

I also found Doom to be easy (Ultimate Doom had some thoguh levels though) But the fact that you have infinate ammo for the machine gun just simplifies it way too much. It also lacked the extreame atmosphere that Doom had. RotT is above average for the FPS genre, just not by much.

But I'd have to agree - I don't know what it is but playing stuff like those subway levels in Duke 3D were quite a bit of fun because they actually resembled something in real life.
