Re: Besides the game, what do you want in the Duke Nukem retail box?
The game(ofc), manual(so i can read it at school and say it's the best book ever), concept art, wallpapers, art book with commentary, mouse-pad with a nuke logo, soundtrack CD, a disk with a little movie with the developers talking, and saying thanks for buying the game, and hope you enjoy it. :P

Re: Besides the game, what do you want in the Duke Nukem retail box?
I like Steelbooks,so at first, the Retail-Box should be a Steelbook with a relief Nuke-Symbol.
The Manual, for God's sake make it colored and i don't mean colored front and back-cover, the whole thing should be colored (i cant stand this trend to make it all black and white - feels to cheap). Trailers and behind-the-scenes info on the RECENT Version would be nice too, as i don't think that they are including everything from every version DNF has gone through. Maybe a Video like the 2001-Trailer thats chronologicaly revising all iterations of DNF in a pure 3 Minute Action-Trailer. A belt with a Nuke-Symbol would be nice too. Artbook and Soundtrack would be nice, but today all of that would count as a Special Edition. I cant think of much more, all in all the retail-box should give me more value over a digital download version so there is a point to actually buy the game at retail and not as a download.

Re: Besides the game, what do you want in the Duke Nukem retail box?
Retail should always dominate over digital. I like to actully OWN what I buy, not just a generic copy off a server, that I could potentially lose due to a harddrive failure. Plus I like being able to stack up my cases so when I do have friends over, then can clearly see my giant wall of games.
That being said, although there is no tax, yadda yadda, and they do nice sales. I refuse to support Steam, and when I see a game with the Steam label. I make sure there is a crack already made so I can bypass it. I don't game with friends, and I sure as hell don't like shit running in the background when I play a game. Mainly because if I am playing a single-player game, I like to turn my Internet OFF. (Thanks C&C4 for fu..ing me on that one. -_-) |

Re: Besides the game, what do you want in the Duke Nukem retail box?
You only own a box in retail. Not the stuff on the disc. The only difference is you install the game from a disc instead of over the internet.
Also, he mentions cracks. He's a pirate, arr!!! BAN THE BASTARD! Also $2957.22 spent on Steam here. Let me add another $50 for Duke Nukem Forever.

First, just an FYI, you do realize with older OS becoming obsolete and unsupported, you can't play older games properly. Example, I had Scrapland and Windows XP 64. I could not install it because of the security system, telling me I needed Win XP. So I contacted support, what did they tell me? Install Windows XP. Thanks guys. Also, when the Lost Planet demo came out same issue, but I got the demo off of Steam, and lo and behold, it works. Second, do you honestly think that Valve only has a single HDD with all the games and their databases on it? They have several all over the world, with multiple copies. There will not be any harddrive failures where everybody loses their games. If you actually think that, you are really out of touch with reality. Third, do you think a physical copy means you own the game? No it doesn't. You own a license to run a game. Any company can revoke those licenses under their discretion and thus the game is deemed illegal for all intents and purposes. But you don't care right. Your a bad boy, aren't you? Your going to play the games regardless, fighting against the machine. Fourth, what does it matter if they can see your games or not? Is it really that important in your life that you need to get validation from your friends over physical possessions? Quite the pathetic life if you ask me. Quote:

Re: Besides the game, what do you want in the Duke Nukem retail box?
1. I was talking about MY harddrive.
2. I run all 3 types of Windows on my PC. (Go me?) 3. My computer is a 7 years old single core capable of playing Crysis maxed out. 4. My ISP charges me for time spent online, so when I don't NEED to be online. I don't WANT to be. 5. My ISP also throttles any file over 1gb, so I end up getting a download speed of like 120kbps. 6. I live in the country, so thats about the best Internet you can get out here. 7. I like looking at the manuals well I take a shit. Can't do that with a Digital Download. 8. All of my games all 100% legal. I just hate Steam.

Re: Besides the game, what do you want in the Duke Nukem retail box?
Redownload FTW!
All three types? See, when there is a Windows in 32-bit and 64-bit, and then 5 different versions and also a bunch of other stuff, then "3 types" means nothing. Quote:

Using a crack to bypass something makes it illegal. So if you buy Dawn of War II but then use a crack to play it, whoops, you're playing it illegally. Have a nice day.

Why are we arguing about steam? Either you use it, or you don't. And fanboys will be Fanboys, Twitch just ignore them.

Twitch is a fanboy too. A fanboy of retail. So you fail really hard there with your argument.
You just got served, Oveneise. Really hard. So hard Cthulhu will eat your sould twice.

Re: Besides the game, what do you want in the Duke Nukem retail box?
NO STEAM FOR DNF! IT IS DIGITAL SLAVERY! YOU MUST SEE THIS! THEY FORCE FREE WEEKENDS UPON US THAT WE CANNOT REMOVE FROM THE GAMES LIST UNTIL VALVE DECIDES TO END IT!
VALVE ARE THE ANTICHRIST AND STEAM IS THEIR RIGHT HAND FOR ENSLAVING EVERY SINGLE PC GAMER IN THE WORLD! SAY NO TO STEAM AND BEING FORCED TO ALWAYS STAY ONLINE TO PLAY A SINGLE PLAYER GAME!

Re: Besides the game, what do you want in the Duke Nukem retail box?
Well it does seem like Twitch lives in the middle of nowhere with no decent connection or ISP around so in that case I can understand why he might be opposing the whole digital distribution thing... but if you càn afford a good ISP then there is no reason at all to be opposing Steam IMO.

And no, please stop being a troll. I agree, Steam is a great service, but some people just don't want to have to connect to the internet while playing a game, which is just fine. The majority of gamers will most likely buy from retail. I respect both of your opinions... and NO! I didn't get served.

Re: Besides the game, what do you want in the Duke Nukem retail box?
I prefer retail over download as well (and I'm talking about ALL types of media, not just games). But that's mainly because I like to build a visible collection, and have something to read when I'm bored like Game Manuals and such. Sure downloads are cheaper, but hey, I'm helping the economy by paying taxes and such, right? I just like to have something to look at is all.
Duke Nukem Forever better have a huge special edition!

Re: Besides the game, what do you want in the Duke Nukem retail box?
For me, it's either retail or Steam. If a game is not available on Steam but on other digital distribution platforms (ie. D2D or Blizzard's thing)... it's gonna be retail for me Just preference.. and I don't want to use like 20 different clients to keep track of my games.

I'm surprised this thread is still open. We should make a "Steam: For it, or against it" forum. xD lol that would be a flame war of a forum.

And otherwise... most of your complaints seem to be about the ISP available in your country... not STEAM. So.. they are completely pointless in justifying anything in your reasoning as to why you dislike STEAM. It's not Valve's fault... it's your ISPs. Blame them. And really... this again? "I hate STEAM!!" Yes, because Steam stole your identity, ruined your credit score... killed your dog, and ran off with your girl friend. *gasp* Also... and finally, this thread is NOT here so people can go on and on about STEAM. If you want to... there's a General Gaming section just for that. This is for DNF... keep it that way.
