Atari now publishes, or owns and publishes, several MMOs directly competing with each other.

Probably pretty common actually... Has to do with greater market share, and consolidating your customers into a common supply line (like the way bait shops will gather around the same corner).

How did it "hype" every mod? We've all been saying for the past two weeks IT'S A RUMOR. And to wait for PAX before getting all excited.

You guys do understand that the forum staff that I had when I lost my job at 3DR didn't work for 3DR, right? They don't know anything more than you do.

The only person that had some knowledge of what was going on with Duke was me. When I left the forums, the staff here stayed on - for no pay too, I might add just to keep the place from totally going into the shitter.

To accuse the forum mods of stuff like knowing what's going on, and hyping things is a bit silly. They don't know anything more than you do.

Since I haven't worked for 3DR since May of 2009, I'm not exactly the most "in the know" person, either. Granted, I still talk to my former 3DR friends from time to time, and the industry/ex industry people have their own rumor mills and whatnot which you don't see.

But the point is that you shouldn't pick on the forum staff. I might just decide to come back because I'm bored to keep the place in line like it should be.

The mods are very hyped about people who are hyped. I suppose they should lead by example, but who cares if it's exciting news, what'd ya expect?

There is nobody who is a regular here that is ready to go ballistic if it's not true (although I've seen us accused of spreading some kind of possible dreadful dissapointment due to specualtion that's not allowewd to occur ). I agree with Ruski and I don't think he was accusing the mods of having insider info., just of being excited, - even if they aren't admitting it.

This rumor is the best (and only) news (and Rumor) we've had in a long time.

The reason people get uptight isn't because of speculation. It's the real dissapointment of having no game year after year that is the culprit.

I can wait the 10 days until we know for sure. I'm not really expecting anything from that event in regards of DNF. It would be a positive surprise, but talking about DNF is always a risk.

What if they do reveal Gearbox + DNF tie up? People want to see more, but expect it to be delayed once again. If that happens, well it doesn't to any good the franchise. I would be totally fine in seeing some other Duke game being finished - it doesn't have to be DNF. As long as it is top class shooter in the vein of DNF / (DN3D). Gearbox would be the right place to do that. They've got a nice track record of making and finishing top class games.

for sure man, I've been laid off a few times from some pretty cool places (no where NEAR as cool as 3DR but...) that loyalty is still there, I had a short stint as a game tester at EA, only a few months, but I still talk to those guys every once in awhile. Its not like working for Target or Wal-Mart, you're a family that sticks together, its heartbreaking when a small band of people is broken up like that... queue weepy music, lol. Sorta. If the game doesn't get announced at PAX it would feel like it was 'false advertising' in a way, but if it DOES get announced, it will be forgivable.

Yea, the read between the lines statement was read to death around here, and he has since backpeddled into a "no comment"/"I have no idea" position about DNF (if I remember correctly).

I think everyone has been gagged and put under NDA. Even the rumor seems like some kind of viral plot.

Just remember to stay tuned for shock and awe. That pretty much sums it up around here.
