Xbox 360 Prey Trailer out Monday on G4

As most of you know, the Microsoft Xbox 360 console is being released in the United States on Tuesday. As has been previously announced, Prey will be released on that console (as well as on the PC). While the release date is still "When it's done", we do have something to look forward to that's a bit more concrete than "When it's done".

This coming Monday, the TV network G4 will be airing a 3.6 hour special about the release of the Xbox 360. They will be having live coverage from several locations around the US with several of their personalities such as Adam Sessler, Morgan Webb, Sarah Lane, and our old friend Geoff Keighley, as well as many others.

As part of their coverage, they will be having the world exclusive first look at Prey for the Xbox 360 in the form of an all new trailer.

Here's some text from G4 about the event:

It's an epic event: The launch of Xbox 360, Microsoft's next-generation video game system. G4 celebrates this milestone like no other network can with "Countdown to Xbox 360," a groundbreaking 3.6 hours of wall-to-wall coverage with live, up-to-the minute reports from Xbox 360 launch events across the country. Premiering Monday, November 21 at 9:00 PM ET / 6:00 PM PT, this unprecedented night of programming, hosted by G4's Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb, also delivers the ultimate buyer's guide with an in-depth look at the making of the 360 as well as reviews, tips and tricks for the first Xbox 360 games.

We're told that the Prey trailer is supposed to air between 10:45 and 11:15 PM Eastern / 7:45 and 8:15 PM Pacific. However, since this is a live special we can't guarantee a specific time, so you might want to tune into the whole program to make sure to catch it.

G4 usually releases their highlight from shows on the net. This means that the Prey trailer would most likely be uploaded as a standalone for people interested only in that. Don't take my word for it though.

Ok...ok....

Well.....it's not much different from the trailer that was floating around online already.... there were a few scattered split-seconds of new footage here and there.

My TV's kinda small, so I can't comment on them in detail....it all just looked awesome overall.

Well, I didn't knew it was a PC game first. But yeah, those kind of things suck.

And more so because Halo 2 was never released on the PC.

I think they only released it on the PC to stay true to their promise. For Halo 2 they made no such promises.

Mac and PC, while the real fuss about Microsoft buying Bungie was because of the MAC. Buingie has made the Marathon series. Which was a MAC shooter. Then imagine this; a new shooter for the MAC developed by Bungie, called Halo. MAC users finally though they are going to get their ultimate shooter.
So people were angry with no Halo for MAC as well as the PC.

Now, where did I leave that Prey trailer?

Whenever it did air, it did so considerably later than it was projected to. I stayed up an hour past 11:15 p.m. Eastern and didn't see it.

Yeah I almost missed it myself...The only warning was a little text blurb on the bottom of the screen that was only there after commercials for like 10 seconds.

Hopefully they post the video on their site sometime soon so you guys can see it!

OK, they replayed the show, and knowing that the trailer was 2 hours and 45 minutes in, I was ready. And I nearly missed it again. They must go to it right after the commercials. I do think I caught the overwhelming majority.

Impressions:

I don't really know what to say. The gameplay hits you in one second snippets. Seemed to be almost entirely previously-unseen footage, but as for new elements in the new footage, I can't sit here and describe one thing. I think I saw a new enemy, and perhaps a new weapon. I saw many familiar elements, in familiar-looking surroundings. It all looks pretty similiar at that pace.

I don't think the trailer plays well on television. I much rather experience it sitting 12 inches from my monitor (with play/pause buttons), rather than 8 feet way from my TV.

From what I saw, maybe it was the TV, but it seemed although sub-PC trailer, it still looked awesome. Nice FPS and stuff.

Man am I glad that I built a computer mainly just to play this game. I think that without a doubt Prey will be the next big FPS that's going to shake the industry.

Word on the street is that Xbox 360 is having problems with the Doom 3 engine, or at least the big rumor is that Quake 4 runs like a fat kid at a track meet on the 360.
I'm surprised by the fact that it has framerate issues and the texture resolutions have been lowered for the 360 too. It seems like a kind of bad omen for the system that it can't properly run the Doom 3 engine without breaking a sweat.
