In fact I make a habit of visiting the Sydney Children's Hospital and mocking the dying children at every opportunity.

Kinda funny that we're talking sacred cows in a thread taking the piss out of Obama. This Chaser sketch was no worse than anything you'd find daily in Cyanide and Happiness. Probably not fit for television broadcast at 8:30, but the outrage was way overblown.

Bollocks... Never have... I was truly disturbed at the fact that a charity that works hard to give terminally ill kids a chance to smile again was mocked in such a cruel fashion... I'm a teacher and I work with kids. The sketch wasn't well done and was poor in taste... The outrage wasn't overblown... it was well deserved.

No joke at all, in fact I just stole a balloon from a dying child not 5 seconds ago.

Look, why are certain people or groups immune from ridicule just because they do good work? I don't deny that the Make a Wish Foundation is a worthwhile organisation, but why should that mean that we can't make jokes about it? The joke was in bad taste, but many jokes are, and it doesn't preclude it from being funny.

I'm a lawyer and I work with all walks of life at often the lowest point in their lives, and I paid my way through law school by working in a bottle shop and had to deal with alcoholics and drug addicts on a daily basis. That has absolutely no bearing on my ability to take a joke.

Guess I'll go look into getting 'psychological help' now though. Glad I never had so reactionary (and childish) a teacher.

Well it really depends on the reaction of the joke. I mean if you said something like "... is something you'll undersatnd in the future," thats an ok joke. But if all you do if point and say "You're going to die!" then thats just mean. In the end if they are laughing as well then its good.

Lol, to imply that Butler has a psychological problem when you yourself are the one unable to realistically gauge the gravity of the situation is somewhat amusing.

You're not really sticking up for anyone. There is no net gain for you or anyone else for complaining. Their lives are not saved. You do not get a sticker.

LOL, this thread apparently took a few wrong turns since I created it.

Thanks to those who complimented, I did write this from scratch.

One of the problems with a parody that has political foundations is that replies to it often get *very* serious... and angry. I rarely ever back away from a good political discussion, but I regret that anyone took this down the "race" road. It was never my intention.

That might explain the rather creepy PM that I got from some tool...

I dunno. I work in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Medical Center in Dallas. While nurses (especially these nurses on my floor) have a dark sense of humor, that was a little much.

Though, I can vouch, most of the kids, dying or otherwise, have a great sense of humor about it. They're usually incredibly inspiring and strong.

We've lost about one a week over the past couple months, with another one likely going tonight. He's doing his Make a Wish tonight... I think that's all he was holding on for.

Might put it in a little perspective for some folks.
