Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
Don't F.U.C.K. with me, this is waaay too incredible!!!
I actually don't know the developer, nor have I played the games its founders are associated with on a google search I did (I've never tried Riddick)... but I love Wolfenstein! Ouiii Also, they couldn't get enough of the actual nazi span, right? It will be funny to see how this alternate reality works out.

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was awesome as far as I'm concerned. That game is quite dated now. I see they also worked on the original Darkness, which got a great reception when you take into account it was a little buggy. I need to pick up both the Darkness titles - I have yet to try them. Darkness I was loved for not just being a shooter, but had a great story and level design.

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
Yes, the three of them are well reviewed games... while not always a good sign, I hope it means good, this time. If they don't change the expected release date (am I kidding me? it will be changed), it won't be long 'till the game's out.
What saddens me is the lack of the id Software logo on the trailer! It actually infuriates me.

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
Yeah, MachineGames is founded from former members of Starbreeze.
While Riddick and The Darkness are great games, they were both lacking in the combat area. There was plenty of combat to be had in both games, it just was rather meh. But, that was mostly an engine issue with how it felt and worked. With them using idTech5 for this, I'm hoping they can capture the same awesome "feel" id manages to put into the tech with player movement and combat. But, I'm a huge Wolfenstein fan. So this is awesome news, personally, I can't wait.

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
I'm not too hooked on the idea of it being some weird reality where the Nazis win since in Wolf3D you kill Hitler, but I guess if it's in the new timeline it will have something to do with time travel maybe. It takes place in the 60s after all so BJ is like at least 40 now.
Isn't it time to remake the Mecha Hitler fight?

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
It is stated it is a reimaging. Don't know if they're keeping continuity with past games. I would have liked to see a sequel of those. I know! Wolf from 2009 just had too many things in common with RTCW, and Wilhelm Strasse is still on the run!

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
This will probably be fun for one playthrough. Raven's Wolf was enjoyable, if mediocre.
Don't know why they're betting so heavily in this series (we just had a Wolf "reboot"...In 2009!) when it doesn't even have all that much appeal (to modern audiences) nowadays. Hope they don't "modernize" it or try to make it "cinematic".

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
Maybe they figured ROTT was making a comeback so why not...but yeah like you said we just had the 2009 Wolf. My favorite is still RTCW. The only part I hated hattttteeeed in that game were the sneaking alarm otherwise you failed missions. I hate shit like that.

And, why make a statement like that? Who's to say what appeals to who? A lot of people seem really hyped for this new Wolf game as the series has a pretty large fan base. I find I'm far more interested in this new Wolf game then anything else coming this year.

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
It's been nearly a decade since Doom 3, though, so Doom 4 isn't really pushing it.

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
I am really excited for this game. I am glad that the devs are taking the game into a new direction by setting it into a different time period with an alternate history. I hope they explain the alternate history in deep detail and explain what happened to the Soviets, the Allies, what did Germany do to the Japanese empire. Did they turn on them on destroy them? Is Hitler still alive and still the ruler of the Nazi war machine?
Anyway, I hope you get to go to various locations like London, Paris, and New York and get to see how the Nazis destroyed/remade them in there own twisted image. I also want a final battle on the moon with Mecha Hitler! |

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
This preview from venture beat is kind of interesting:
http://venturebeat.com/2013/05/28/nazi- ... -matthies/ I especially like this quote: GamesBeat: OK, no screwing around. When does Mecha Hitler show up? Jens Matthies: There is a plan for this, but I can’t divulge anything. and this: GamesBeat: Is there going to be anything to extend the game beyond the campaign? Matthies: There’s a lot of depth to the gameplay and secrets to uncover. There’s also a point at which something, depending on the choices that you make, might create a fork. You can think of it like an alternate ending, but it’s really early in the game, so it affects the whole game. There’s a good reason to go back and make the other choice. Mecha Hitler and alternate choices kindle my interest greatly. I hope that the game will end with a final boss fight with Mecha Hitler on the moon. |

Yeah, it looks and plays pretty generic.

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
While I can understand why people say it "looks" generic... how the hell can you say it "plays" generic? You haven't played it? Specially for roughly a couple minutes of spliced together footage.

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
I agree. People are already judging this game to be a flop when they haven't even seen more than a minute and a half of gameplay. Geez, give the game a chance. At least wait till we see more substantial gameplay footage.

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
The only thing I don't like is the dual wielding. I used to like it, but now... IMO, it takes the protagonism from the guns away... As if they were just simple toys you can dual-wield just for the sake of more power. I like it like in Blood, just for a brief period of time, but not like Blood 2. TPS are something else, entirely.

Also, the emphasis on "merging storytelling with blowing shit up" sets off my spider sense, that simply sounds like a euphemism for riddling the game with cutscenes and rigid scripting. In the end, my position is this: why should I be excited for a game that not only looks bland, but also seems to pay no more than lipservice to the legacy whose back it's riding on.

We have seen someone else play it in that footage, haven't we? For an experienced FPS player it's enough information to deduce from.

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
I don't know why some of you guys are complaining. I think it is a fresh step in the franchise. Many games(like CoD) tend to stay the same, and people get tired of buying the same game with different characters. Just give it a chance. Hell it hasn't even come out yet and people are judging it.

I can find footage of games I LOVE on youtube that look awful gameplay wise just by how they are played. Until I see a gameplay presentation that follows a continuous sequences of events that properly shows the flow of an area... I'm not going to make snap judgements just because it doesn't look like Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I remember people throwing a fit over the 2009 Wolf because of the other world areas. Commenting that early gameplay videos looked horrible and the game would be ass. Yet, it turned out awesome.

The game looks neat, unfortunately I can't support any future title Bethesda releases after scrapping Human Head's work on Prey 2. Total scumbags!

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
https://twitter.com/jasonlblair - From Prey 2's narrative director, today:
"This Prey 2/Arkane rumor is giving new life to a lot of old lies. I'm been quiet about this whole business but can't stay so anymore. I've worked at/with @humanheadgames for years, including different stages of Prey 2 development. I was narrative designer/writer on Prey 2 for the last six months of its development at Human Head. It was a lot more than a demo. Prey 2 was a full game. And a crazy fun one. The team was small but you wouldn't have known it. What happened to Prey 2, from where I sat, was political. And petty. And potentially litigable. Human Head had a great game. I was heartbroken when Prey 2 went into limbo. Human Head deserved to have that game released. Frankly, they needed it. As for Arkane, I've enjoyed what I played of Dishonored. They have the chops. If the rumor is true, they'll likely do well with Prey. But I mourn that Prey 2 won't belong to Human Head. I mourn that my friends won't get recognition for what they accomplished. Instead, they get the same old "Prey 2 was never a game" and "It was just a demo" thrown around. Shameful. And completely untrue." Scumbags! Fair enough, Damien. It sucks because New Order will be awesome. The game looks great. But Bethesda can go to hell as far as I'm concerned. |

Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order
If we'd only seen about a minute of footage from RotT... then yes. But, considering they've release a lot of footage from the game. And, I've seen nothing that makes me think it looks fun... then, no.

Yes. The most boring, generic and uncreative 1 minute footage that you can prepare for the first gameplay video of your new game. After all, first impressions mean nothing.
