You're right, but the game being almost done can be considered an assumption based on a reading. An exact date that pinpoints an exact day, however, doesn't look like an assumption to me.

It's interesting to note that Amazon, along with other retailers, say the game is coming out on July 10th. I'd normally ignore their release dates, but 3D Realms has linked all of them as official sources for pre-ordering the game. This could very well mean that June 22nd is the day 3DR is releasing the Prey Demo.

This project was actually started based on my proposal to Id. Also, while Id developed this project, it's really no different than the many other projects we've done with external developers, like Remedy and now Human Head, with Apogee/3DR playing the role as producer & co-designer.

The July 10th release date that many retailers have linked to is an official release date from 2k games, the publisher.

You have a wrong assumption there, that is you assume that what 2K Games says about the release date is official. That is simply wrong, their word is not the official word.

Why does a game need to be non-linear to have replay value? If the game has memorable moments it does have a lot of replay value, for me anyways.
For instance, Half-Life is linear but I finished it for over 6 times. Maybe more.

THR: 1998? You've been working on it for eight years?
Sorry a bit off topic but I thought DNF would have cost A LOT more than 7.5 million since 1998. I thought it be WAY over that mark. I still badly want that game.

I think you read it wrong (although some do say it wrong). Non-linear gameplay adds to the replay value. IMO anyway, but it is definately NOT required for me. I finished doom 3 and quake 4 a few times and I enjoyed it every time.

yap... thats what i thought also... its only 1 million per year, or less than hundred thousand per month... even just a payroll should consume more than that.

Re: Release Date Revealed?
Is there ever going to be a release date, or will it be announced in the very moment? I mean, it is supposed to come out in July, and we're already in mid-May... I don't know the exact time games are given a date, but I think it should be given in no time, unless the sudden announce (let's say with a week time) takes place.

Yep.

There were guessed release dates on Doom 3 and HL2 right up to each games Gold announcement, and 90% of those specuated dates were wrong.

And with any 3DRealms project it's always WID, so just have some patience. Sit back and watch the badass videos they're gracing us with. Also we've got other games to keep us occupied (HL2:E1 comes out June 1).

But a PREY demo in late June would be awesome.. completely badass. But I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Release Date Revealed?
By going gold is it meant to be finished, no? But then no release date is needed, the game may ship as soon as the casing procedure is done, if I'm not wrong. I don't understand much of this but I thought dates were given as soon as you have advanced enough to know when you're going to finish... however, as I have told, I don't know about it, this is the first game I've been following, and the best I've seen about in my life.

If you by this mean the multiplication(copying) of the game then you are correct.

Duke Nukem Xbox.com fake hype
All of my friends keep telling me that this game is coming out on June 1st, 2006 because quote "that's what is says on xbox.com" And well that is what it says but we all know different, not to mention that I was home in time to watch all 5 days of the E3 coverage on G4 and while they did review the game they didn't not once mention a release date. Im just gonna be quiet and stop arguing with everyone and patiently await my adventure .

Since the game is not even gold yet, it would be very unlikely for prey to come out then.

But if you don't want to argue or something, what is the point of this thread? We all know that fake release dates are being posted everywhere.

A one month gold status (i.e. cd's being printed) is pretty standard IMO. Not that prey is gold yet though, that can still take several weeks.
