I agree to an extent, atleast canon-wise. It's kind of like my opinion on the Terminator series - the first two really said all that needed to be said, and the rest are milk worthy. Payne has basically done all that's been needed to be done...however, Max Payne 2 was just too bad ass to ignore.

max payne 2 had a nice story as well... it just came too soon and had no new innovation aside from the monumental good graphics!

Objectively, a story rewrite is not necessarily a signal of further delay or development trouble. Remember that Half-Life 2 underwent a major story overhaul in the year or so between the beta leak and the final release.

Yeah, and HL2 missed it's originally planned release date by what... a year?

And HL2 didn't so much go through a rewrite as they just cut about half the content out.

What's wrong with the GTA games? GTA3 was a great success and before it, the GTA series weren't mainstream, and all its sequels have been great up to now.

Anyway, here's my list:
Super Mario Bros. 3
Contra 3: Alien Wars
Zelda: A Link to the Past
Duke Nukem 3D
Doom 3 (no matter what they say... Doom 3 is a great game)
Warioland 3 (the best of the series and a great platform game)
Super Metroid
Return to Castle Wolfenstein (As you know, Spear Of Destiny was the first sequel)

I'm faithfull that Max Payne 3 will be great. I don't know what direction Max Payne 3 will take, but graphics will be great. I hope that mayor re-write implies Max's not bald anymore. Man, this game have potential even with the direction it has taken up to what we know, but it's up to then if they totally ruin it.

Anyone who says that Doom 3 was superior to Doom or Doom 2 invalidates any opinion they have from here on out.

Doom 3 = almost no strong community base.

Doom 1/2 = One of the strongest community bases of any video game ever made, with new mods being created all the time.

My hopes would be higher for Max Payne 3, but much like with an arguement or mathematics, if your initial logic is faulty, the overall picture is going to be just flat wrong. That's what Max Payne 3 is destined to be from what I see. Flat wrong. Nothing like the other two. I can already see the excusers are ready for action. Its a forgone conclusion that this game will have people going "Well its not like Max Payne 1 or 2, but what did people expect? The same gameplay and style of the other two games? Things have to change." Just like with Resident Evil and so many other franchises out there. The excusers are right there ready to defend shit, just because nobody can be critical, nothing can be bad, and everything is relative.

My statement about graphics is not ignorance, it's simply fact. The graphics rendering capabilities of a PC is far more powerful than a console - read the specs.

From looking at the screenshots, the graphics suck, and the common reason for that is that many games are made to run within the graphic capabilities of a console. And that is another fact. So if facts make you mad..... don't blame me.
