Coming Winter 2009

EDIT: Forgot to mention.. biggest shock of all? No PC logo at the bottom there. Looks like it's consoles only folks!

EDIT 2: Ok scratch that.. it is coming out for PC.. here's the press release:

Quote:
Rockstar Games Announces Max Payne 3 for Winter 2009

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud to announce that Max Payne 3 is currently in development and scheduled for a winter 2009 release on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and PC. Developed by Rockstar Vancouver, Max Payne 3 tells the story of a retired police detective embroiled in a world of corruption, turmoil and intense violence.

The award-winning Max Payne franchise put players in the role of Max Payne, a hard-boiled New York City detective with a penchant for violence, out to avenge the death of his family. The latest installment delivers more of the classic elements and hyper-intense action that fans have come to love, while moving the story of Max in a new direction.

“We’re starting a new chapter of Max’s life with this game,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “This is Max as we’ve never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation.

”Since leaving the NYPD and New York itself behind, Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out.

Max Payne 3 will be available in winter 2009 for Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 and PC.

The pic actually looks as though it could be Max Payne from the 2nd game plus a few years....unlike the rather unsettling jump between game 1 and 2 where the two Max's bore no resemblance....

I wonder who the real-life model is this time??

Oh, and the fact that the preliminary-teaser-single-faceshot-artwork looks as though it's from GTA means absolutely nothing.

I love it how people jump to conclusions that it's now "GTA-Engine Max"- seriously.

You gotta remember that it's Rockstar themselves making the game this time around, so you think they might actually use their own concept artists for the promo work??

Not to say it ISN'T using the RAGE engine(as it probably is), but there's really no concrete evidence one way or another....and if it is, I'm sure the gameplay mechanics will NOT reek of Max-Payne-on-a-GTA-Engine; every individual RAGE engine game so far has had a unique feel that suited the game it was being used for.

I'm not worried.

Did Max pack his bags and move to Liberty City? it sure looks like it, given the art style...but at least they didn't base Max's new look on Mark Wahlberg.

But still, it will be interesting to see what direction Rockstar Vancouver will take with the series; I can't wait to see more.

This is good news I guess, but I fear this won't be good like the Remedy MP titles. Let's hope I'm wrong, though. I also hope that shitty artwork is preliminary and not an indicative of how the rest of the direction will be...I mean, you can open photoshop and immediately find the brushes they used for his facial hair. Not to mention his forehead is smudge-tool-land. Looks a tad amateur to me.

Yeah, but that makes me unhappy. I would prefer them to give us an older version of the original Max Payne... I still am bitter about the model change.

Okay - how can you get trapped in a city? It's not a prison. Don't see how one has to actively search for a way out. Also what "truth" is he looking for? The plot lines from MP1 and 2 have already been resolved, have they not? I hope they'll give us some more in-depth plot details soon, right now it sounds rather stupid.

I'm still a bit excited over this but I can't help but think this game isn't going to be that good. They'll probably f*ck up the story/style of the games.

Re: Max Payne 3
Yeah, "probably". We know nothing about the game other than its a new setting and Max is old. The rest is just marketing puff that could come from a press release for any game, and the concept art is exactly that, just a concept. It's way too early to be jumping to conclusions regarding quality.

Nope. Neither is Remedy.

I don't have high hopes for this. I've always sort of wanted a third Max Payne, but at the same time... didn't want a third game. Since they killed damn near every body in the second game.

And without Remedy behind the wheel... I'm not sure how excited I can get about it.

I mean, if we could get a few choice details... who wrote the story? And who is doing the voice of Max?
