Well I was gonna point how how this was to be expcted after the previous mobile games(the Duke ones), the MachineWorks Northwest logo being put on the official Prey site a while back and this quote from a recent interview with Scott Miller:

Quote:
We’ve been working with MachineWorks to develop mobile Duke games for two years now. These games have been quite highly rated and pretty big sellers.

We also have several other projects cooking that have yet to be signed with a publisher.
- Scott Miller, March 20th, 2007.

Then I went to the MachineWorks Northwest webpage and saw mentioned of a new Duke mobile game, this game and then finally I saw this VERY intersteing little quote:

Quote:
MachineWorks Northwest, LLC has acquired the worldwide, exclusive mobile rights to the complete 3D Realms game catalog. In addition, MachineWorks has entered into a publishing agreement with SkyZone Mobile for Prey Mobile.
- MachineWorks Northwest website, April 14th, 2007.

Disclaimer: I haven't played Prey Mobile, so I don't know anything about it.

Statement: When you died in Prey and went to the Land of the Ancients, it had that same kind of look.

I wonder what engine it's using. The level architecture reminds me of Build (no room-over-room, sloped sectors).
So, how does the purchase work? Do you just buy it in a store, or do you have to purchase a download on your PC and then transfer the downloaded file to your cell phone? (I know nothing about mobile phone games)

Well the games on my phone require you to access the internet through your phone and purchase it from the game section or the creators website. It will then download directly to your sim card in your phone. There forever even if you delete it you can instantly reinstall.

I've never played a mobile game, I've never owned a mobile phone

I'll soon get one though and this looks interesting.

I have a question about mobile games - I assume there is some way to transfer the game to another phone if you buy a new one? People do that all the time so I assume you won't lose all your games if you get a new phone?

Anyway, this game looks cool.

Just take your sim card out of your phone and place it in the new one. The only exception I believe would be if you switched to a different cell phone company.

You also have to make absolutely shure the new cellphone has the requirements for your games as well..

And some phone games actually don't download to your simcard but directly into your phones memory..

Sometimes it's impossible to transfer games from phone to phone..
An example could be that I have a game on my Motorola phone, and then I go out and buy a Nokia or a Sony Ericsson..

Yes, you'd keep whatever was on your sim when you put it in the new phone. However, sim cards aren't used exactly like memory cards in the sense that you can cram them full of games or 3 gigs of MP3s. They're first to store your phone number, contact book, etc. If you switch phones, you can keep all your data by keeping your sim and sticking it into the new phone (provided the phone is unlocked and uses that network).

In the case of Prey, I don't think that'd be possible since sim phones operate on GMS. The article mentions Prey running on a Brew handset which means on Verizon phones and competing technology CDMA, and those don't use sim cards (unless MachineWorks also doing a J2ME version for GSM phones).

I'll pick it up and I'm not a die hard fan.

Mobile is slowly rising up as a good handheld when it comes to gaming.

People will make the arguement a phone is meant to call people on and that is true... but if I had the choice of gaming on a cell phone too then I'd take it. Beats taking a PSP and my cell with me, why not combine the two?

As was pointed out, there is a big market for these things. Think. If nobody bought them, who would spend the time and the money making them?

As for the watered down remark - you should try it first. It's also not a port, either.

Re: Prey Mobile - what is this????
I recently purchased it on my phone. It truly deserves the 8.9 it got. Amazing for a mobile game and it's not a port of the original Prey. I got really addicted to this and found myself playing it whenever I could. There are about five weapons you can get: the wrench, the hunter rifle, the auto cannon, and this really sweet new electric gun. The graphics are excellent and the sound it pretty good too. I have a Motorola RAZR and it works great on that. Don't doubt it's power just because it's a cell phone game. Give it a try!
