Let it be
I think Duke Nukem Forever is a Master Piece and is'nt for the money they are making it but to gift to all gamers, a gift. Something we never saw in the video game scene. The want to let us play a game made by passion and real love of gamming. They want to let us touch the sky by playing a game with every element an hardcore or a new gamer can dream of. The want to realise our dream and play an old school game, elaborate in a small amouth of time, with the highest technolgy, to let us know which games is perfect. Created by old gamers, the kind of gamer that dont understand why a game is created with restriction.

Why an old guy can write a book an take 20 years of is life to complete it and not the game creator ? Why people are not bitchin the writer, tellin' about date to deliver is book because that not make sense to take 20 years? Sure ,the distributor is always ready to sell books and make money. They need it as fast as possible to know if they will make extra money this week because they want a 55' Yatch.

But a couple of friends in a garage dreaming of a game, brainstorming with enthousiat . Seeing what a PC game must be in there head. A collective orgasme made by ideas and created with lines codes. They dont want to be stop.

The technology was the limit. Now, we are at the top of the PC can give to us... Tomorow.. we will in the game... maybe.. but they will probably dont name it a pc.. maybe a 3d environment computer of something more impressive for the marketing... but the pc got is last hours.

Its not a pop game create by a buisness man who see money when then can. Easy, cheap, fast... Money money come to me. They got respect and ethics about a game can be.

Who set the amout of time needed to release a game ? God tell in the bible... you will not take more than 10 years to develope a game or the hell will come on earth ? Prey who you want. You will get a game made by gamers.

Shovelcat.

(English is my second langage) i writed the text for let me sleep tonight.

Re: Let it be
There's a piece of truth into this. A developer must have all the time he wants to make a game.
But this is an exception. In our case, the dev said that the game would be released at some day and it didn't happen. The he did this again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again ...
That's why the duke fans are so angry. Not because they had to wait for long, but because 3DR said it would be short.

Re: Let it be
What you say seems not to fit to the actual situation ...

First ... passion in a garage ... 3D Realms is not a garage ! ... they have computers, cool nuke logo on the floor and high quality coke machines ! ...

Second ... it's not passion anymore that has led them to delay ... George told himself what the matter was ... they were playing WoW instead of working on DN4E ...

Third ... an old man writing a book is at least wise enough not to tell any release date

Fourth ... a book doesn't need to switch graphix engines constantly ...

Fith ... could you please explain to me where the technology was the limit in the dev of DN4E?? Godamnit dude, the ******* problem was that is was taking so long that the engine of DN4E was always getting outdated ! ... you sure you've read what's told inside of this forum? seems like you're talking about a different game or different game producter !

Sixth ... what the **** as god or the holy bible to do in this affair? ... no ones never said a game should take some amount or time or not ... the problem is that they announced the game, several times, because of their greed, and when it was time for delivery, oh ! the game was not finished yet ! "lots of mistakes" "lessons to learn" "lots of WoW" ... Damn, stop telling stupid things about holy bible, game psychology or anything else (if you want talk psychology, you can still post on the post talking about commitments, it's a tissue of stupidy i'm sure you would be eased to comment !)

Seventh, damn, why trying to find excuses to 3D Realms? They simply failed because of their lazyness and greed, ... that's all ... i work for a well know developper and it takes half the time it took 3DR to get out a blockbuster game ! ...

Imagine a second that you're 5 yo, your parents tell you christmas day is the next day ... then they say to you, "sorry son, this cannot be done this year, maybe next year" ... imagine now you've been trough such situation 13 times ... now you know what it has done to the fan community to have such shit to overcome !

I don't understand why some people regard 3D Realms as saintly in stature. They weren't taking so long to create "the perfect game", they took so long due to inefficiences cause by poor project management and possibly even a lack of vision or idea of what they really wanted to create. True, they are about high polish but I don't think they even reached the stage of polishing, except maybe near the end when things went belly up.

On the other hand, I find it hard to believe that at times the whole office was just busy playing WoW. I think George likes to give the impression that he lives a sort of rockstar lifestyle when in actual fact he's or was a hard worker who was trying diligently to make a hit.

As long as it plays like Duke Nukem 3D and just has improved graphics, it will be a hit.

I doubt the length of the game will surpass Duke 3D though, how do you make a game with 4 episodes these days?

mmmhh dudes, the game we make in here last at least 2 to 3 hours minimum ... Duke Nukem was intended to last 30 to 45 min ... as it was a normal time for 1990's ...

So i really hope the game will be longer ahaha
