All I can say is a serious effort is being made to move forward on the retro remake project and a developer has already started prototyping.

My guess is that its a fancier name for a reboot. To what scale i dont know, i have said numerous times before i have my fingers crossed for a full blown game with full HD graphics, but my guess is either a PSP, DS or iPhone game.

I hope that it's just an updated graphics/gameplay enhancement (like eDuke/DukePlus or Beautiful Doom).

But I'm also hoping that they take the Comm-Bat system as-is, add more features, fix the bugs, and make it playable for a wired, 21st century gaming audience.

On the rare occasion that I get a chance to play Comm-Bat on the old IPX setup in my place, I am amazed at how it is superior to every other deathmatch game out there - even Team Fortress.

This is not nostalgia talking. For instance, "X-Com: UFO Defense" is hands down the best turn-based strategy game out there, and in nearly two decades it has yet to be surpassed. You don't have to be a nostalgia fanatic or a ROTT fanatic to appreciate the statement that "ROTT deathmatch is still the best and has yet to be beat".

Apogee Software is sitting on gold, and I hope that they don't let it go to waste.

They won't keep the com-bat system atleast I hope they don't. I really hated IPX, was one of the worst parts of Netware :/.
