Damn. You ruined the 666, haha.

Also, I get what you mean. I don't hate the "realistic" style. I can live with them. My gripe is that there's too many of them, and they're just boring to me. That's why I want another Duke fps.

I don't mean that a game being "realistic" immediately makes it boring. I just mean that generally the intention of making them "realistic" brings along design choices that just aren't fun.

I agree. When I was younger, Rainbow Six was cool or whatever, but now, almost EVERY fps that comes out is like that, and the plots are SO BORING.

Terrorists trying to take over the world, your mission, oh wait, i'm sorry, your TEAMS mission, stop them!

make me wonder if maybe the military has their hand in this, trying to get younger people to join up in the Marines, wouldn't surprise me at all

Usually the worst part of these games is just being able to hold 2 or 3 weapons at once. Hyperspace arsenal FTW.

:P

I dont knock anyone for liking their games realistic, I just prefer a game to be unrealistic.
If I wanted a realistic war game, I would join the army, not play a video game of it.
I like Duke/Serious Sam/Mirror's Edge/etc for the unrealistic stuff they bring. Stuff that I would NEVER be able to actually do (at least in this days and age).
I like (my character) being able to walk at a pace that would be actual running in real life, and be able to run at 2x that pace forever.
I like jet packs, and rocket launchers, and jumping off a 20 story building to a 16 story rooftop w/o getting hurt.
I like that kind of stuff.

I know I am in the minority.
Seems almost all FPS games nowadays are war shooters, or realistic-y shooters, where you can barely side-step your way out of a snails path. Or take damage jumping off of a sports car to the ground.

Wowza, were at 114 views. I like the realistic tactical games (COD 4 MW), they are very fun when it comes to multiplayer. But the single player is lacking. I would love to see Duke come out and kick some ass.

Call of Duty, Medal of Honor....trust me, those games are not realistic in the slightest. They are realistic in setting and story--and to me it sounds that's what you are all complaining about--but in the gameplay department they are every bit as mindless as Duke 3D.

Well, the gameplay includes the environments as well, right? There's no excuse if they suck.

Also like I said, the weapon limitations.

Also, the colors, or lack of them.

Also, the characters' speed

And most importantly, generic uncharismatic player characters.

Et cetera.

The more I talk about this, the more I wish for DNF to come out...

As unrealistic as Call of Duty and MOH are, it would just be flat out stupid to have them running at 60 mph while holding 20 weapons. The game ignores alot of realistic elements, but it still has to retain some level of it to give off it's militaristic feel. And even the more realistic design choices are pushing it. In a real realistic shooter, even two weapons would be considered a load. You'd probably be walking around with only ONE gun and a puny little sidearm. You also couldn't carry the amount of ammo that you do in those games. The movement speed is even too fast. Hardly anyone can run as fast as you can on Call of Duty while wearing all that equipment in the middle of a desert.

And call me crazy, but I'd really like for Duke's movement speed in Duke Forever to be reduced. I honestly don't like running about 40 mph in modern games, even in unrealistic ones such as Doom and whatnot. It worked fine in old games of the 90's but now...with the attention to detail that games get, they should seriously slow down the pace.

I also kinda agree with this. But I wouldn't want Duke to be as slow as other fps protagonists. He should still be faster.

Again, these are just opinions. I simply like tons of weapons, lots of gore (I know these modern shooters have gore, but I like DN3D-with-DukePlus gore, or Postal 2-with-AWP gore), speed, monsters, jetpacks, et cetera. I'm sick of seeing marines/soldiers/whatever on game covers.

Not enough hype for a big DNF annoucement imho.

Honestly, I think the speed from Quake 4 would be perfect for Duke. Not as blazing fast as in Duke 3D but still pretty fast paced.

Very true, fast movement speeds, being able to jump 2 skyscrapers high... there's just no place for that anymore. Sorry to interrupt your dreams here kiddos but turning DNF into a Painkiller/Serious Sam-like game wouldn't be a good idea. It's not that those games were bad... It's just not the kind of gameplay I associate with Duke. Yeah, Duke Nukem 3D was unrealistic but that's just because it was made in the late 90's and that was how FPS's were back then, mostly.

Times are different now. As much as you guys hate realism.. I'm fairly sure that DNF is gonna borrow stuff from those "realistic" shooters. I predict the movement will feel almost exactly like the movement in most "realistic" shooters

T2 reports their earnings today which would be the main reason for the call. They will probably detail the rest of the year with their investor which may or may not include something regarding DNF.
