I don't see how a new Max Payne game would work anyway. To me, Max Payne 1 & 2 (although the first more than the latter) feels like they were made with love by Remedy. I think a Max Payne 3 would be more focussed towards commercial success and it'd feel too forced.

Not that I'm saying focussing on cash as well isn't a good thing, but where did the love go?

While a trilogy would've been the best route IMO, specially would have been best to end with third game with the death of Max.

But the way things were going a third game would've have been a commercialized piece of shit. I'm glad it was canceled before it could hurt Max's good name.

They bought the rights because MP1 made barrels of money, and they wanted in on it.

Unfortunately, MP2 only sold as well as an average console game.

Oh well, at least 3DR and Remedy got paid for it, and we got two MP games.

Between and paying $10 million to publish DNF (7 years ago) there must be a lot of angry shareholders at Take2. They must be glad they own the GTA franchise.

Max Payne 2 was unnecessary as well. Max Payne 1 ended on a definitive note that should have sealed the series. Max Payne 2 perverted major characters like Vlad, weaved a convulted and unnecessary plot and forced a suspension of disbelief that stretches the imagination.

So yea, good riddance to Max Payne 3. It would have been completely unnecessary.

PREY was never officially "canceled". It was just sortof slowly put away, and word of it kindof died off.
3DR's never canceled PREY... they just put it on hold.

Neverthless, it is a 3D Realms game, you can't compare them with another company such as Rockstar. D'you ever think a company like R* would ever think of cancelled projects? who knows?... By the why, my point of view is that, maybe Remedy asked Take 2 not to develop MP3 so as after finishing Alan Wake they could return to the franchise to make MP3.

Well they have absolutely no such authority at all. Legally Take Two can do what the heck they want with the MP IP, they could make MP3 be a porn game set in Jack Thompson's ass if they wanted to.

I also doubt that they would want to make a MP3 at all given:

1) They and 3DR sold the IP, something they wouldn't have done without a reason, certainly not if they saw a MP3 in their future.
2)If they have taken after 3DR(They certainly have in other areas, WID stance, development contracts, naming games after the main character "Alan Wake") they would not work on licensed games on principle.

personally i think if max payne 3 was to come out it would've been all pimped out with payne wearing a red nike headband and having pimp daddio homio Gee as his side kick (and unlockable player when you complete the game)

That's why I said who knows... Even, maybe T2 is so fooking OK with his gta franchise that they don't mind waiting for Remedy to develop MP3. Petri Jarvilehto have stated he would like to see MP3 happens (in the apogee legacy).

At the end, it's ok nobody else developed MP3 differing from Remedy 'cause I liked to see how they improve as developers and their point of view of the character, maybe some other write would have fook up everything, at least I hope a cameo of Max Payne in other R* games.

It was officially announced that it was going to get made but they were still looking for a developer and that was never officially announced.

Remedy won't be making Max Payne 3 after Alan Wake because they have planned to make sequels to Alan Wake.

I understand your point of view, but if it was released and was crappy you could simply choose not to play it, and if you changed your mind later you could always grab it from the bargain bin at some point. If it is outright canceled though, you won't have that option.

Hudsons point is why tarnish a good series with a lemon game? End it with some dignity. If you make a game, and then make a sequel ,and that sequel does well, and have a realistic way to continue the series to a third game, then go ahead. If the sequel doesn't do so well, or isn't as popular... Let it rest.

Thats the way I look at it. I enjoyed Max Payne, and found Max Payne 2 to be fun, perhaps not as fun, but still very fun.

Remedy no longer have anything to do with the Max Payne series, its all in Take 2's hands now. Considering their recent financial state, they would probably need a Max Payne 3 now anyway.
