Windows Update and end of life
This is probably a dumb question, but here goes: I know Microsoft will eventually end support of its products after a period of time. Does this merely mean that I will get no new updates, or will all updates for an unsupported product become unavailable?

For example, if I do a fresh install of Windows Server 2000 (for which support ended last June), will Windows Update not work at all, or can I still get updates up until the last available one?

Yeah, you can still get the old updates. It just means they're not making any new ones.

If you do a fresh install of Windows Server 2000, you might have to download the Service packs manually. (The Service Packs will contain all the cumulative updates).

I think the Windows Update service has been changed a couple of times over the years, so the original update service might not be able to download updates automatically.

Hmm..if they have any from the old Windows 3.1 days, which would be a joke, then I'd be all for that. Hehe... Bah, who am I kidding?
