Question What do you use for webpage design?
I'm going to update/fix my website and before I dig out my old copy of frontpage 2003 I thought that I would find out what people are using these days.

Photoshop and Notepad++. Not much else is needed. If one has need, it would be nice to setup some sort of CMS, but I haven't had such a need yet

DreamWeaver MX 2004. Only a FTP client is rarely needed.

Aptana Studio - Only thing I don't like about it is that it runs using Java and is thus very memory intensive on low-spec machines. Very nice code highlighting and offers code suggestions for pretty much every web language.

I use Gimp and Inkscape for graphics.

I also use Homesite 5.5 at work

How about browsers and plugins, what do you develop in?

I have been getting into lunascape. Windows only but a great tool. Click the bottom left to change render engine. See the page as rendered by IE, Safari or Firefox. Bit unstable at times but great for that quick test of a page.

But I live in Firefox most of the time, all those nice plugins. Server swich, firebug, web developer tools to name but a few. I get it right in FF then check it works in the others. Still have to support IE 6 at work . But the company website has just had it's 2nd month where IE 7 is more used than IE 6. Hopefully more and more companies will upgrade and get on the IE 7 bandwaggon, maybe some will even give their staff the choice of IE 7 or Firefox. We are getting new terminal servers at work so we can run more software. 6 months time I reccon I'll only be checking IE 6 if someone reports a problem. But by then it will be time to get to grips with IE 8.

Chrome and Saffari seem to work fine most of the time and not many people are using them. Opera still has it's hardcore, but I guess they are used to sites not working in their browser

I have seen iPod/touch figures rising and the PS 3 too. Ohhh I finally have a reason to get a ps3. To make sure my websites work well on them.

I tend to clear away from java when ever possible, only (x)html and CSS if possible.

I've been using SCITE on Windows for most stuff. When on Linux I try to stick with QuantaPlus because I like the GUI.

Exclamation Re: What do you use for webpage design?
Eclipse.

With the right extensions, it'll support just about any type of development.

I prefer to stick to static XSLT/XHTML (that's real XHTML Strict), with a .htaccess to ensure that non-XSLT browsers can still grok the mark-up (using pre-parsed XHTML). Minifying the stuff is fairly pointless when you pre-gzip every non-compressed file (I use a Bash script for that). The final result is very lightweight for the server, and tiny for the browser to download (although it's got to de-compress the files and parse the XSLT).

Thankfully, XSLT is very well supported. All of the major browsers have better XSLT support than HTML or CSS support, looking at the specifications.

In all cases, I'm not happy unless everything validates. All external graphics are PNG (compressed with Silverman's pngout), and the occasional JPEG (for photos and stuff. You know, what JPEG was invented for). All alpha-transparent PNGs get defined in an IE6-only CSS file.

I'm getting into using in-line SVG/VML, but that will require a bit more work to get perfect. I'm attempting to use XSLT to translate the SVG to VML in IE after the page has loaded.

Just thought I'd update.

I've been using a plugin for Adobe Lightroom to make my website since I made this thread.

I'm in the process of changing the color scheme from all black to what it is currently. Depending on when you look at this post some of the galleries will represent the old scheme.
