Patch request
I'm aware it's probably far too late to be asking for last minute additions to the upcoming patch, but here is a little feature I'd like to see: the ability to specify team spawns. Right now there is only info_player deathmatch, which makes it impossible for level designers to specify where specific team spawn locations are (which makes for a fairly chaotic and messy TDM experience).
Is there any chance that team specific info_player dm starts can be included? Pretty please? |

Re: Patch request
Couldn't this be easily worked around with using scripting? Not sure though, I haven't tried.

Re: Patch request
If it can, I'd love to know how. I imagine it could easily be done with a mini mod, but I'd really prefer to have it enabled in the retail game. The word 'mod' does tend to make a lot of gamers shy away :-(

Re: Patch request
What? TDM has always had random spawns.....just because CS didn't. Its 'team' deathmatch, not CTF or King of the Hill. All team deathmatch means is that you go on playing like usual only your kills are stacked with your teammates.
Every game I've played with TDM has used the same DM spawns. Games like DOD or CS don't because they are squad based with objectives, not TDM. |

Re: Patch request
Avatar, since I've been playing FPS games since Quake 1, I'm well aware of that. But it's always bugged me, and especially so in the case of Prey. Why? Because spawn fragging is a phenomenon in this game. It never ceases to amaze me how often one spawns right in front or right behind the guy who just fragged them.
It just so happens that I do not want random spawns in the TDM map I am making - I am aiming to create a more tactical style of gameplay. I'll be releasing a DM version of said map first (in a week or so) and when you see it, the reasons I don't want random spawns will become obvious to you right away. If I can't find a way to install team-specific spawns, I won't bother making a TDM version because there really wouldn't be any point. A preview of the map can be found here (if you're observant enough, you'll understand why I don't want random spawns in a TDM version). http://www.legionpcgamers.com/document.php?id=27 And yep - said map could also be easily modified for CTF, and I'm confident that CTF for Prey will be realized one day - if not by HH/3DR, by a mod maker. I have deliberately created the map so that I can make it CTF ready in a flash. Failing that, I'll port it to Q4 instead. |

Re: Patch request
Spawn fragging is due to no "Spawn Furthest" logic being implemented. It has sweet frig all to do with it being a team game, nor is it any worse versus deathmatch.
What you refer to is what some games have that places the player furthest from other players upon spawning. Thats a better suggestion than asking for team spawns that will make TDM drastically different. I'd rather not know where the other team is than to just say "Ok guys, they are on the opposite end of the map" if you take my meaning. |

Re: Patch request
Yes, I do take your meaning - you're not talking to a newby. UT2004 is kind of guilty about the scenario you speak of. If I know a map well enough, I typically know where my opponent is likely to respawn. So yes, spawning 'furthest from' is not really a suitable solution either. So now you're getting to the crux of why I want to change the way it works. This can easily be done by level designers with a bit of thought) providing the tools are in place to do so.
Poo poo my suggestion all you like, but until you've tried the concept I'm aiming for I'd hold my tongue. I have done this before for CTF (in Quake 3) and it worked a charm. http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...&ArticleID=403 I can't see why it wouldn't work just as well for TDM. I reckon Prey is in need of such measures for the reasons I've mentioned. I can't explain why, other than to say that if UT2004 uses the 'spawn furthest from' rule, Prey seems to use a 'spawn closest to' rule. And as much as me and my dumb little buddies love the idea of Multiprey, this very fact has kept it off our LAN menu for weeks. |

Re: Patch request
I'll look forward to seeing this map!!!!Yea, the game seems to know when you get spawn fragged right after you get fragged because, then, it moves you to another area of the map
